About This Game

Explore, craft, and survive in this Multiplayer RPG Platformer with permanent death! Featuring many Rogue-like elements, Magicite randomly generates each underground dungeon for you and your friends to delve deep into. Chop trees, mine ores, and hunt beasts in order to collect the resources and materials you need to survive the harsh and unforgiving environment. With a ton of character traits, stats, companions, and classes, players will have a different experience each play through! Be prepared to die... A LOT.

Magicite's main influences were Monster Hunter and Spelunky. I loved the resource collection and crafting in Monster Hunter, and of course fighting giant monsters with my friends. Spelunky's brutal yet rewarding platforming was also something that I wanted to capture with Magicite.

Features:
  • Randomly Generated Dungeons - Experience a new dungeon each time you play. Expect tons of trees to chop, ores to mine, plants to harvest, and bugs to catch! Oh and giant monsters.
  • Permanent Death - The game logs all of your stats in a play through, leading the way for achievements and upgrades.
  • Crafting System - Combine any two items to create a new one! For example, Wood + Wood = Plank. There are tons of combinations to discover!
  • Combat System - If you plan on just running in and swinging you sword, you're gonna get wrecked. Take time to craft useful items and examine enemy positioning before executing a well timed attack.
  • Unlockable Races, Hats, & Companions - The more you play, more greater chance you'll unlock awesome new hats with a variety of special effects. Races and Companions can also be unlocked to provide different starting items and stats!
  • Multiplayer - Want to put your friendships to the test? This is the game to do it! Permanent death only occurs when the ENTIRE party has fallen. So if your buddy gets knocked out feel free to run over and help him back up. Or not...

Magicite is a wonderful Dungeon-Delver 2D Platformer game wich is really fun.

But, This game is only worth the money if you have friends to play the game with, yet i still gave it a thumbs up since it deserves it.

A spectacular game to play, that is if you have friends and a half-hour to spend on trying to get to district 15 at least. This game is definitley worth grabbing for a quick pick-me-up for an online couch sort of game. If you enjoy any fast paced dungeon game you'll definitley enjoy this one.

Caution: I would not recommend this game if you have an issue with glitches, as it is not uncommon to encounter them and this game is not in beta.

I hate that I have to give this game a negative review but it has to be done.

Cons-
Not much Depth
Insanely hard (or I suck)
Crafting is insanely hard
Only entertaining for a short period of time
Multiplayer is broken

Pros-
Unlockables!
Cool characters and enemies!
Bosses!

In all, this game was really fun at the start. But it just lacks the depth for hours on hours of gameplay.

So this game is easily one of the best indie games I've played in a LONG time. I bought it way back when it was in early access, not knowing anything about it and was really surprised. It took everything that is good about crafting games (using tools and weapons to get better tools and weapons without the mindless grinding for materials and base building) and combined it with the best parts of a rogue-like (fast paced gameplay with high-risk-high-reward elements). I easily have put 25-30ish hours into this game single player.

The multiplayer is where the game is at its best. Because there are so many classes, races, accessories, etc., the game has some great depth and allows multiple players to combine different and unique characters to create an unstoppable team. The combinations are seemingly endless and creates one of the most unique multiplayer experiences I have played in a long time.

I 100% recommend this game. It isn't just an indie game that you buy and play for a few hours. It's a game that I feel really stands up to the competition that is modern indie games. There aren't that many games out there that provide both a single and multiplayer experience like this one does, and both are musts to get the absolute best experience from the game. Plus, you just can't beat that price for how much game there is.

Definitely rough around the edges, which may be a turn-off to some, but once you get a solid grip on the controls, it's immensely addicting and highly satisfying.

I would like to see the developer give this game a little more love, though.

Starting with positive, I like the controls they feel tight and responsive so far, I like the artstyle, and in general I actually really like the concept of this, Feels more like an arcade version of terreria.

BUT almost instantly, out of principle I have to give it a no just because the crafting is so annoying.

I didn't realize it would be so unintuitive.
clunkily halving ingrediants then crafting 15 sword hilts or whatever because I don't know how to grab just 1 at a time and couldn't even if I wanted to because the inventory is stupidly small.

another game with unnecessary amounts of time researching recipes online as I play.
Sure after a week or so I will probably get most of it down but the thing is
It adds NOTHING to the game, it only takes away from it.

For a game that feels much like an arcadey platformer pop-in-for-a-half-hour-session type of game, I really don't understand what they were thinking with the crafting.

The game is at it's core a a relatively simple action/rpg arcade platformer style level based game.
design the game as such IMO, it seems to have some identity issues going on.

add up resources like you do the gold,
Have some sort of crafting menu that simply shows you what you can craft and what you need.
Simply click if you have the ingrediants.
wow was that so hard? probably would have saved me 3-4 hours of wiki'ing.
and if someone were to argue "well that's the fun, you need to be smart about your space and how to craft stuff"
sorry but if "inventory management" is a major part of this game, the devs did it wrong.

Magicite.
A game that doesn't know what it wants to be.

I love this Magicite. No more needs to be said. Magicite is amazing, not every aspect of it though. I wish this game had a proper tutorial, or something to make the transition into a complicated game far easier. I also want to say, that the scourge wall is totally the Wall of Flesh from Terraria. I want to announce that if you love games like terraria and minecraft, but have started to get bored of them. Than this game is perfect for you. It is survival(y), with a hunger bar, crafting, and everything. It also is a great 2d platformer. I truly enjoy being able to sink into this game for 30+ minutes, and just enjoy myself, and then easily be able to quit when mom says, "Dinnertime!" I hope that you take my info into account, and have a truly phinominal time playing Magicite! Here's a link to my YouTube below. Please subscribe even though I haven't uploaded anything since I already have some vids prepared to go up.

This game was a lot of fun and had great potential, but seems to be in its final form now and just doesn't have the depth and polish the game deserves. If the developers had worked out bug fixes and added just a few more features (i.e. it would be great to be able to save a run after a level so you're not committed to doing it all in one sitting) after release I would recommend this highly, but in its current state I would only buy it on sale.

Pros:
-fun mix between platformer and roguelike
-reasonable difficulty (neither too easy nor too hard)
-quite nice looking
-the class system is pretty interesting and, despite being simple, adds variety and increases replayability

Cons:
-feels like an early access game despite being finished w.r.t. occasional bugs, content feeling skimpy/unpolished
-no saving mid-run so if you didn't budget enough time to finish up on a run that goes long, you've wasted your time

Worth $10? IMO no. Worth <$5 on steam sale? Absolutely.

Honestly, I just couldn't get a grip of the controls. There are other issues with the game, but the controls were the main factor. If you CAN handle the controls, the game is good. Good music, good indie style graphics, some interesting game mechanics. The game just doesn't really play that well.

One thing that annoys me is that Feats only have a chance to unlock a desired item so you may have to do it more then once, apart from that it seems fine.

8/10 multiplayer bugs had me laughing so hard when maps glitched out and trapped me at the start while leaveing my near dead friend to fend for himself on level 16. R.I.P *ieces*

Pretty hard to start. No tutorials, recipes.
At the beginning most time spent on figuring out "What I need to do and why?".
On top of that, we tried to play co-op, my mate expirienced freq random disconnects which ruined our sessions.

A simple game, and good for it.

If you have a friend you want to kill a few days with, this is a good way to do it. I picked this up in a four-pack on the holiday sale and sent it to a few buddies, one of which lives out of town. As often happens in narratives, he's the only one who responded.
We played a few hours every few nights (longer as we got better at the game), chatting the whole time about this and that. And that was the thing. We could just game and talk. There was no big story to worry about missing, there were no weird mechanics to worry about, there was just a platforming hack-and-slash Rogue-like.

A simple game, and good for it.

This game is probably one of the most fun games I have ever touched.

In general, you start out with 1 race, and a set of skills. You spawn in a forest where you have to get resources to survive and not die. Later on you unlock more races, hats, variants and things as such that give you stat boosts or special perks.

The worlds themselves are breathtaking. Along with the music, the graphics are amazing, the sprites of the enemies are wonderful, and the feel of the area gets you really amped and happy to play the game.

There is difficulty to this game, as not only are the enemies hard but there is also permadeath. Permadeath would pretty much be the only thing I don't like about the game, but thats more of an opinion, as permadeath in a game is not wrong its just some people like it and some don't. But having permadeath actually makes you want to play the game more and more to get further than where you were before.

If I were to compare this game, I'd say it would be very close to something like terraria, but I don't usually like comparing games. Why? Because games like this are unique. This game is its own thing, nothing like I have ever played before. It showed me a whole new type of platformer and I am just so happy this game fell into my steam library.

So, would I recommend this game? Certainly. Definitely worth the price!

P.S. if you ever meet percyl in the forest he will destroy you

This game is great, fun artstyle, great music. and amazing concept. and it works perfecty... sometimes.

while the base game is there, in SP(single player) the game gets boring... FAST. not to mention there is literally no direction when you first start, along with a clunky UI and bad crafting system. almost every run is the same, with the exception of VERY RARELY spawning chests, which most of the time contain nothing, but occasionally will have a weapon or armour piece which makes you COMPLETELY over powered... or not, because five minutes later you'll get a lag spike which kills your friend and you die trying to save him.

there are a whole ton of other things, but i'll let you go to the negative reviews section for those.

i personally bough the game for 2.50 during the lunar sale, and for that much? yeah i'd recommend it. but for ten dollars, especially after the DEVs abandoned it, not in my life would i suggest you get it

PS. multiplayer DOES WORK FINE, aside from the fact that it's got major lag issues and one or two bugs when going through doors.

Story: 2/5
Gameplay: 4/5
Sounds: 2/5
Graphics: 3/5
Interface: 3/5

Overall Rating: 7/10

Magicite is a rouge-like platformer hack and slash game where you take part in many multiple biomes in search of resources to supply yourself in the act of defeating the antagonist the scourge. This game is rather fun to play but it rather glitchy at times. Mostly the glitchs occur in multiplayer which ruins a good amount of fun in the game. Anyways. The game is rather difficult though all enemys consist of static movement. In other words you learn their patterns and then kill them like an expert would. This game does not have cloud storage and cannot save games in anyway however during gameplay you can unlock new races, pets and hats that all have a impact on your character. However once the games files are removed they are gona altogether. The games key elements are crafting and organizing. Your inventory is extremely small making things difficult to sort out. The game has no built in tutorial other than a hint in the crafting menu that it does not actually tell you how to open in the first place. The hint is Crafting: Hold shift and try Wood + Wood Or something like that. What it doesn't tell you is everything else such as where do i get wood etc etc. The game is easy to learn however extremely confusing in the start.

I personally recommend this game to those who love to play solo. This is due to the amount of glitchs in multiplayer. However glitchs can be avoidable if you are more cautious about the " Environment "

I Recommend this game
