What the developers have to say:

“Krautscape is an awesome new experience in racing games and to maximize that experience we felt Early Access would give us the flexibility in being able to get the game out and show it to players while we finalize our content and iron-out any problems in the process.

The core mechanics behind Krautscape are complete. You'll be able to race against your friends online, creating awesome new tracks every time you race with three modes for you to play. With Early Access we would like to expand on our multiplayer offerings by adding more players, but to do so we want to make sure online matches are 100% stable. Obviously adding more players creates more chances for hiccups, so we'll be rolling out updates to add more players to races in time. We'll also have some exciting new content for you to play by yourself and we'll have a big update that adds more variation to tracks and cars so you can win in style!

We hope to be in Early Access for a short period of time, 3-5 months at most. During that time you'll be able to purchase the game at a special Early Access discount priced at $7.99! This of course will include all future updates. After the game is complete and taken off Early Access it will be sold for its normal price of $9.99.

We would love the Steam Community to be involved in bringing out the full potential of Krautscape. To do so we want players to be active on the game forum pages so we can take all feedback and reported issues and put them into fixing the game and making it as much fun as possible. We're a small team but we will be absorbing everything the community has to say and we hope that you and your friends will enjoy Krautscape while we bring this exciting new racing experience to the world!”

Stability update & new european server location

We released an update that improves server stability and adds an european server. We also improved our build process to make future updates easier to publish.

Changes:
- Added european server - lower latencies for all european players. The game prefers server with lower latencies (e.g. when starting new games) but still joins other games if there are no players from the same area are available
- Version checks for the game & master server, so you can't accidentally connect to a server with the wrong version
- The vehicle is now a bit more responsive, so less braking is needed to start drifting

Bugfixes:
- Scoring/track building should now always work from both sides.
- Updated to Unity 4.5 which solves some problems with the servers
- Linux server pinging is now more reliable

About This Game

Krautscape is an action-packed racing game with bird-like flying cars, focused on competitive multiplayer gameplay. The leading player actively builds the racetrack while the chasing players can take shortcuts by flying off the track to overcome obstacles. But the track is needed to score and to get speed – the vehicles don't have any thrusters to accelerate while flying. The three multiplayer game modes are designed to support nonlinear gameplay and intelligent movement instead of forcing you to drive perfectly.

Key Features

  • Short and action packed multiplayer racing sessions
  • Build a racing track while racing – every race creates a new track
  • Flying cars!
  • Three multiplayer game modes with completely different goals & gameplay
  • Multiplayer game modes are playable online, on LAN or in splitscreen mode (up to 4 players)
  • Single player practice mode
  • Original adaptive soundtrack
  • Keyboard and gamepad

(will get updated, prob. when more players are actually playing cause then there is the possibility to truly judge it :P )

+free switching between flying/driving
+trackbuilding done by players(with nice little twists thru kinda "random" track elements that you can find while building the track)
+shortcutting is a huge part
+i enjoy the graphics
+easy to get into the game, hard to master
+fair price

-minimum/no options menu(dont really think there are many options needed, but key bindings or volume sliders for example would be nice)
-no mode to play against bots (mentioned it cause its kinda connected to the next point)
-low playerbase(isnt a fault of the game but still had to mention it)

would probably rate it 7.5/10, playerbase is annoying but not a fault of the game itself(havent found any onlinegame for now) really worth giving it a try in my eyes

lil text:
It really is a nice game and i enjoy the little twist with the flying possibility i would really recommend that game even though or maybe especially because there is a really low playerbase at all atm, and with more people playing it could show its full potential.
I would like to see some possibilities for keychanging and maybe (nice to practice with and also because of the low playerbase) a solomode against bots ... i mean yes there is a free driving mode atm but ... i want to race someone and not just drive alone. all in all the game itself is really nice and i look forward to a time where more player are actually playing it cause then it will probably become a lot of fun.

So far, I really enjoy Krautscape. I've got a soft spot for racing games, and I love the simplicity of this. Haven't had a chance to try out the online yet because, well, no one's queued up.

Like:
+ Music/SFX
+ World atmosphere
+ Difficult/arcadey handling
+ Simplicity
+ User-built tracks
+ Easy to get into and learn
+ Flight (although it can be a bit difficult to maneuver)

Would love to see these features added:

- World saves
- Instructions for gameplay modes (I still don't know what they mean)
- Online world list w/ player lists (no one's queued up now, but it would be nice to see some progress)
- Ability to directly invite friends to a private game
- Custom colours if the game gets big enough ;)

Not really sure what I was expecting from this... the trailer looked interesting so I gave it a go.

The driving-handling is super-arcadey, not surprising, but not much fun. The flying is awful, you basically turn into a brick with minimal gliding functionality.

Not really any way I'm aware of to connect to specific people i.e. friends, just queue up for game types, and often enough nobody else queueing up anyway. Safe to give this one a miss.

This game is the new Flappy Bird. So simple, yet so fun. Mariokart on wings, hours upon hours of fun with friends. 8.5/10 for reasons of poor client synchronization, but that is the only issue I see so far. Great job to the developers on this one :)

Flying mechanics are not too good, vehicle sound is quite lame - I know its early access but this needs lots more polish. Lots.

Krautscape has enginuity, quality and good gameplay i would heavily emphasise the words "buy it now!"
if you are someone that likes flight this is great you could just fly around or you could go flatout and make a straight track or test your agility by making twist and turns, drops and rises.

Plays well on my SolydK 64bit install. Worked with an xbox controller and Logitech F310. Even both at the same time! I played split screen with my son. He had the xbox controller and I on the Logitech. We had a blast. Adding flying to the game made it really interesting. You learn where to use it to get ahead.

Thanks for the Linux port!

I really enjoy this. It looks beautiful; driving is fun; flying is fun; races are intense and the game is polished and makes me feel good when I run it. Doesn't it sound fantastic? Good!

One little downside is that I can imagine it getting old. This is not a game to play daily, but one to have a few hours of fun with at a time. Preferably with friends. Worst case: you play it for an hour this year, and an hour next year, and an hour the year after that -- it's totally worth $8. Just make sure your friends get it too and you can be sure that you'll have people to play with in a years time.

More of an issue, but one that is maybe to be expect gven that nature of the game (played here and there by small groups of friends) is that no-one is on the servers of late as far as I can tell, and that's a real bummer. So uhh.. buy the game, and play it with me. It's the only solution. :D

Few things i like and things i dont like.
Likes: Good change of pace from usual racing. Good idea of race tracks. Gives off a new kind of high.

Dislikes: Needs to improve on building tracks (like the tutorial needs to teach players how to finish tracks, I couldn't finish nor save any tracks), there needs to be different types of racing vehicles, It felt like a mix between FWD and AWD, but turning mechanics was awkward. I would enter a corner like a FWD, but exit like an AWD. Also, I wanted to know whether or not the wings had any effect on turning, wind resistance, drag coefficients, and downforce. There should be a menu on types of vehicles to choose and characteristics, like different style wings (concentrating more on mid air speed, turning speed, road speed, etc) mainly for individual racing benefits and disadvantages, this would make players think twice before choosing the best type of settings for the race. Building race tracks need more improvement for versatility, I ended up with bunch of turns that I didn't want, instead i wanted loops, jumps, etc. This would be excellent if it could incorporate building tracks like "Trackmania," it gives more control over how a track can be created, deleted, modified. Also, I felt some major lag while turning. Like, as the game went on, the memory started to stack upwards, then the turning would delay, maybe because it had to save, and build up memory while racing. I played this on highest graphic settings. I would love to see updates to improve on this. Also, I would like to see "key bindings" in options, because it took me a while to find out what "C" button did. Also, sound settings need improvement, like sound vs. bgm music. I turned off sound but i kept hearing acceleration sounds, beeping sounds, etc. If the game allowed drifting, even in midair. I bet this game would hit at least, top 5 games of 2014-15.

You could say that Krautscape is almost a finished product with how polished everything is, but i hope not, the game will come out of Steam Early Access and launch after a few months of developing, i love the art style/graphics of the game, and the gameplay and it's unique ideas like the track building while you race, this is a great game for the asking pricing, it has local and online support, and a split-screen too, one thing is missing though that i find would make make recommend this game without question, there is no AI/Bots, you could say "well it doesn't need it, just play with your friends or online in a match", i could do that but what if i couldn't? i can't have my friends come play with me whenever i please, the online component of the game can be is another solution but it may die off in time, that's why bots are needed in the game and i hope they do add it when the game releases.

It's a fun and simple multiplayer game with a neat art style.

My favorite mode so far is "Ping Pong". The player in the lead creates the track as they drive. When the time limit is up, the finish line is created and first car there gets a point. Then you race the track you just built in reverse... first car to the previous start gets a point and you keep going to build more race track in that direction. This repeats a few times, so the track gets longer each round. The trick is trying to remember the layout so that you can fly between sections of the track and skip over huge chunks.

Played it at my friend's home. IT'S AWESOME! Unbelieveable how awesome this game is. As first I thought "ugh, what is this..." played it for 2 minutes and felt in love with it. The AWESOME point about it - YOU generate the track, your enemies don't know what's coming. I mean, as first you make a track that is straight, suddenly you make a sharp right turn& so does the track generates at the goal a sharp right turn. Your enemies can't react that fast so they fall off the track.. but hey, it's not over yet.. they decide to press SPACE and fly back on the road! It's AWESOME! We just need more players, so guys - buy it, add me & lets play! :)

Love this Game, especially the look & feel of it. Great idea to be able to make the track while you're in a race! 10/10 Would HIGHLY recommend for anyone who loves the idea of Mario Kart, but with fewer items thrown at your neck, and more "Oh Woops, I made you fall off the Track!". Oh, and don't forget: You can fly too!

[INFORMATION REFLECTS BETA AS OF 4/2/2014]
The game is very good and lots of fun when you can find other people to play with, although that's tough at the moment. Still some glitches where your car will get stuck if you hit a blockade too fast.

BACKSPACE key will reset your vehicle.

Gliding isn't quite as accurate (in terms of physics) as you would want. I think they need to spend some time with a glider to understand what will happen when you turn hard left/right. Other than that, though, I like this title. Looking forward to keeping an eye on it.
