What the developers have to say:

“Krautscape is an awesome new experience in racing games and to maximize that experience we felt Early Access would give us the flexibility in being able to get the game out and show it to players while we finalize our content and iron-out any problems in the process.

The core mechanics behind Krautscape are complete. You'll be able to race against your friends online, creating awesome new tracks every time you race with three modes for you to play. With Early Access we would like to expand on our multiplayer offerings by adding more players, but to do so we want to make sure online matches are 100% stable. Obviously adding more players creates more chances for hiccups, so we'll be rolling out updates to add more players to races in time. We'll also have some exciting new content for you to play by yourself and we'll have a big update that adds more variation to tracks and cars so you can win in style!

We hope to be in Early Access for a short period of time, 3-5 months at most. During that time you'll be able to purchase the game at a special Early Access discount priced at $7.99! This of course will include all future updates. After the game is complete and taken off Early Access it will be sold for its normal price of $9.99.

We would love the Steam Community to be involved in bringing out the full potential of Krautscape. To do so we want players to be active on the game forum pages so we can take all feedback and reported issues and put them into fixing the game and making it as much fun as possible. We're a small team but we will be absorbing everything the community has to say and we hope that you and your friends will enjoy Krautscape while we bring this exciting new racing experience to the world!”

Preparing for release

We're preparing for the final release of Krautscape!

We've been working on the game since a long time. The project started more than 5 years ago as a student project, and we put in a lot of our time to work on it. Sometimes we were working more actively on it, sometimes less, but we always had the goal to release a great, fun and unique game at the end. After almost two years of Early Access, we think very soon it's time to take the game out of Early Access.

Early access helped us improve many parts of the game based on the feedback of the community. It helped us fix some technical issues, and it gave us an impression about how the game is perceived. We also added features that weren't initially planned. For example, we felt it's important that people can play without relying on other players to be online, so we added a complete singleplayer mode. This wasn't planned initially, and took a major part of our working time, but we are sure this was important to extend the lifetime of the game.

We're currently preparing another update that will be released in the coming weeks, when we will move Krautscape out of Early Access. This update will include customizable controls (finally!) and achievements, among other things. It should also tackle a few more points mentioned in the forums. We hope you'll like it, stay tuned!

About This Game

Krautscape is an action-packed racing game with bird-like flying cars, focused on competitive multiplayer gameplay. The leading player actively builds the racetrack while the chasing players can take shortcuts by flying off the track to overcome obstacles. But the track is needed to score and to get speed – the vehicles don't have any thrusters to accelerate while flying. The three multiplayer game modes are designed to support nonlinear gameplay and intelligent movement instead of forcing you to drive perfectly.

Key Features

  • Short and action packed multiplayer racing sessions
  • Build a racing track while racing – every race creates a new track
  • Flying cars!
  • Three multiplayer game modes with completely different goals & gameplay
  • Multiplayer game modes are playable online, on LAN or in splitscreen mode (up to 4 players)
  • Single player practice mode
  • Original adaptive soundtrack
  • Keyboard and gamepad

Early Access Review
Alright, here's the deal with this game, the game got released, got attention, and slowly faded into a small community, however after a while the dev had to focus his attention on another projects so eventually the population faded into zero, luckily the dev is back! :D

About the game

The game is truely fun and competitive, it recently got a big singleplayer update(still no bots, doubt bots will ever PROPERLY happen due to how racing works), the racing + flying physics got updated recently and they need alot of tweaking, IF you get this, get it with friends because that'll be where this game shines, in competitive multiplayer.

Let's hope the dev keeps working on the game!

It needs a ton of work, but is otherwise fun. Very unique game that i recommend and i hope that online mode gets more players. It takes practice and doesn't handle quite like a typical racer. It is a mix of arcade and sim in its current build. The colors are... eh, something else. I really recommend those get changed around.

Would like to see the ability to make your own tracks, perhaps some different kart designs down the road or hoverships.

I love this game so much.

I love that:
*Its deceptively simple
*Easy to learn and difficult to master
*Requires fast thinking and quick reflexes

Me and couple of friends got this game and we have been having a blast.
I highly reccomend playing with friends while talking over voice chat.

This game is absolutely amazing. I love the mechanics. Its such a cool idea and has a good amount of skill to it. Honestly, this game is absolutely amazing. The only real downfall is that it is almost impossible to find peeps playing it online. BUT, if u get this with friends, WHICH I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU DO, you will have a blast. The implications of the game mechanics create many ways for the people lagging behind to catch up and/or screw up the front player, but the front player has a lot of freedom while creating whatever track they wish.

I LOVE THIS GAME. It is one of the few I've ever actually cared about enough to write a review for.

The idea for this game is really great! It's like a majorly improved trackmania, but lacks some of the most vital parts for this kind of game to really work out.

Ok let's dive in shall we??

Is it like trackmania?
You bet your sweet ♥♥♥ it is. Well, at least its got all those big windey tracks and sick loops that it has. the driving is more like a copy and paste script that you can easily find on the Unity3D Forums. the turning is for ♥♥♥♥, and the driving is all around arcade-like, so thats no fun.

but wait? Isnt this a driving game?
YEAH! and thats whats so frustrating. I firmly believe that in order to make an effective driving game, you have to include more than stop, go, and shift. Unfortunately for you, there is barely a brake to even use. Either youre going 120 mph or youre dead stopped and turned around 180 degress.

But wait! Theres more!
Indeed! Theres a flying aspect to it! Sounds neat, but I havent gotten around to that so I'll keep you posted.

Ok so thats neat-o. So like, can you make your own tracks and stuff?
"Hell nah, son. I havent been able to find a Copy-paste script on the Unity3D forums yet. But when I do...."
I really wouldnt consider this a game, as much as I would a project for your 3d Game Development 101 final. It's something that should have been ported over to Iphone because there are obtainable medals, and there is so little content that the only thing you will find in this game is premade tracks, some driving mechanics, and a setting page that includes all of the Unity3D preset settings. Classy.

Now I'm not totally filled with disgust for this game. I can be a happy guy.
Mr. Mario von Rickenbach was so kind enough to include a multiplayer option, where you can both either go head to head, or race other people, and do a derby maybe??? I actually dont know because there isnt a single soul who is online in the game.

Plus, there is enough track to keep you happy for 3 hours at the least. thats just below the threshold to refund the game.

Just dont let these screenshots fool you, because this is blatently a game from a guy who just jumped out of a long twitter battle with one of his #indiedev buddies and won the battle by using justunfollow.me to DM blast everyone to rate this game on greenlight.

Now I could be wrong, I could be right, but heres what you should know:
If I missed anything (In which I'm damn sure I did) let me know. If you thought this review sucked, let me know!
