If there's such a thing as a video game dictionary, you'd find a picture of Meltdown listed under "repetitive design". The mechanics are solid, the graphics decent, and the music almost catchy, but it never changes even a slight bit from the very first level in the game. It's almost as if the developers created a single level and felt that was enough to sustain the entire game, repeating it to incessant amounts to pad the experience which might as well begin and end in the few minutes it takes you to complete the tutorial.

Meltdown is an isometric shooter that favors simplicity for complex mechanics or enemies. Enemy AI is mostly nonexistent, weapons are self explanatory, and the leveling system generous enough that you'll never need to choose between upgrades as you have more than enough points to level them all with more to spare. And if I'm being completely honest, the basic design is actually enjoyable to an extent (at least in coop), but its design is so stagnant, so painfully repetitive that it was literally on the verge of putting me to sleep as I struggled to retain interest while playing through what felt like the exact same level I'd played a dozen times before. Enemies, encounter designs, environments and level layouts; they're all exactly the same from each level to level, leaving on to wonder what exactly the point of continuing is.

Rending progression even more useless, is how you are restricted from so much until you prestige your character (which first requires you level up every skill tree), which then completely erases all progress you've made (including unlocked missions) and expects you to play it all again with nothing more to show for it but a new color on your username. It's incredibly poor design decisions like this that make Meltdown feel as if the developers didn't bother to think how the player would take this forced repetition past that which you experience by default going through the game, as if they expected them not only to endure the grind but actually enjoy it.

To be entirely fair, there are actually a few interesting ideas presented with Meltdown (such as the automatic cover system), but they are so entirely useless that there really is no need for them to be in the game at all. So many elements seem out of place or pointless, making an even bigger case for the game being less than finished or thought out.

Meltdown at its core is a solid, if largely unremarkable, coop focused isometric shooter, but the amount of content it contains wouldn't fill the average demo. It's one of the worst offenders at artificially padding a game's length by reusing the same content I've ever seen, and isn't worth bothering with for anymore than a mindless time waster. Even as that it fails to entertain, with the most enjoyment to be found in the numerous moments the game decides to break and glitch you and enemies onto objects.

Who knew getting stuck on a wall could be so much fun.

I really enjoyed this game , the levels are randomly generated so even if you get stuck on one its not the same everytime. There are not a ton of weapons and armor and the single player is short. Best part of the game is the music.

Pros:
Fun to play
Random Levels Gen
controls well with Keyboard
Great game

Cons:
Short single player
Not a ton of options on weapons, once you find the combo you like it gets a little broken.
Got into the game late so not many online to play

Great game to pick up on steam sale

Excellent top down shooter that actually rewards skill play and not just grinding to get better gear and improvements for it though there is that as well. Having a lot of fun with this game and the way it can throw some really deadly combinations at you that basically can one hit kill you if you make a mistake or react to slow to the challenge at hand.

Check it out, it's well worth it's retail price if you are a genre fan. Even has online multiplayer for up to 4 players which I haven't even tried yet.

Meltdown is a top down arena shooter game (or something along those lines), it's fun, has (maybe) "infinite" character evolutio and lots of upgrades on equipment.

Cons:
- other people's bad connection can affect your game;
- stupid deaths happen somewhat often;

Pros:
- randomly generated levels';
- nice variety of weapons and upgrades;
- "infinite" character evolution;
- good variety of enemies;
- challenging but fun;
- it's fun and quite replayable;
- has "coming soon" stuff;
- nice music;
- skill/technique based;

Now I don't always aim to fully complete games... But for this game how could I say now?... I first purchased this back in the time of Early Access... After trying to get used to the controls with my keypad I taught there was some issues... This game reminds me a lot like LOADED from PS ONE ... As it runs on Linux I decided to try boot it up and try the controller again, after a while I finally realised how stupid I was and mapped the controls... Having not played much during the Early Access I started playing, and playing and playing... Although it is a repetitive game it still is awesome... This is one game (the other being South Park) which I will aim to 100% get the achievments, even though usually I don't care to much about that on PC but I am enjoying this game so much I think I may as well go for it... I rarely play any games on the computer anymore and with this game I just want to keep playing and levelling up... If you don't own this game right now and like games such as LOADED and top down shooters I highly recomment picking this one up... Even the pricetag is cheap, I just hope some DLC is added also... Score - 8.5/10

Small and simple maps is the only downside to this awesome game.
Lots of guns, armors, skills to enhance.
Brings back fond memories of the games Expendable and Alien Swarm.

This game is awesome. It is super challenging, and the amount of customization is just insane. The graphics are pretty great too. There's a lot of strategy involved, and I like that. If you like arcade style games, this is the game for you.

I had never heard of this game before getting it, so it came as some surprise to find just how fun a shooter it is. The game is fairly straightforward in an arcade fashion, and as such is pretty repetitive. However, I've found the best part of the game is the "wave mission" where you get enemies in waves and see how long you can last (though 1ups feel a bit like cheating in that spirit). I feel this probably works best in a quick pick-up game fashion. So far the two biggest gripes I have are on standard missions you can get unfair mechanics such as a sniper spawning in front of you and a rocket launcher behind you so you're pretty much dead, and that the game seems to freeze and stop responding when I try to quit to desktop.

So, if you're looking for a simple, fun shooter I would recommend the game. Depth and story are not present, so if you need those this isn't your game.

Personal Rating: Boring on the long run
Classic Rating: 6.5/10

Ok, this game is not too bad but i wouldn't recommend buying it other than on a bundle, here's why:

in spite of a nice look and feel (which doesn't hurts), gameplay is quite boring because you have to play the same missions several times if you want to buy items and skills - needed to advance, unlocking the next level. Gameplay is also boring because Meltdown is really a repetitive game with the same setting in each and every level (so far): there are just too few modifications that it's almost impossible to distinguish a level from the other...
On the other side, one good point in its favor is the complete support for controllers, so i can play it with my old gamepad and X360CE (XBOX 360 Emulator) without any issue.

This game originated on iOS, and it shows with the grind-centric gameplay. It starts off promisingly enough, a decent twin-stick shooter with satisfying feedback, rolling and cover mechanics, and an upgrade system. Trouble is, that's it. Each new mission is essentially the exact same thing, through the same basic scenario (some generic future industrial rooms), with the same type of gameplay: strafe and shoot. As you level up your weapons, so the enemies level up in strength, which means it actually doesn't feel like you're getting anywhere at all. Really, level 10 feels exactly the same as level 1. The only variety is a gradual reveal of different enemy types, although nothing here will surprise you, and a slow unlocking of weapons and armour that you have to upgrade with coins and upgrade tokens. It's here that the iOS origins really show, this quest for coins that you gradually amass, the need to repeatedly play the same levels to find the right tokens to upgrade your weapons, so you can keep up with the enemies. Around level 10 is when the game introduces stun-lock enemies that are a massive pain in the butt, and very hard to avoid as they travel quite a bit faster than you can, and take some putting down. That was about as much as I could take. I'm sure you could get a couple of hours out of this, but that's not enough to recommend it.

The gameplay is very fun and the graphics are nice. Though when you have played it for a little while, you can notice how buggy this game actually is. About 25% of online games ends when red laser wall, which should disapear after all players are near it, doesn't go away. I mean it. The game ends right there and all players have to quit and lose everything gained from the level. Over 50% of the wave games ends when enemies dont appear at all, and the same thing everyone has to quit and lose everything. This is really ♥♥♥♥ing me off. They should really fix this bug.

Also levelling up is way too easy. Seriously, you can go from the lowest level to prestige 3 level 55 within 3 hours if you just play with high level players where you level up like everytime something gets destroyed. The menu needs improvement too, in my opinion. Big buttons are for mobile version, not pc version.

This game is great and fun to play most of the times espesially coop, but it's nowhere near perfect.

Oh boy, what can I tell you about this game?

It's great, I had it on Android and I loved it there, even more so when I got a Moga Controller to play it with, but when I saw it here, I just HAD to get it, it may still keep most of it's elements straight out from the mobile game, but I can tell you it is worth your time.

Specially if you find some good friends to play it with, I do believe the online parts may need a little more work, but this one is a good time killer
