DISCLAIMER: I have worked with the devs before (and will work again in the future).
That being said, I actually had fun with this game. I rarely have fun in MMOs, due to grinding or just lack of sustainability, but something kept me coming back to this game. True, Ive played mostly solo, but the missions on offer are a lot of fun due to the XCOM like aproach to turn based tactics. If anything, its more traditional since theres no such thing as overwatch, but definitely many ways to customise your tactical experience. (also, the missions are littered with possibilities to gain extras, not like Mass Effect where it was essentially "Press E to Gather Extra ♥♥♥♥" but you need to have team members with those qualities (Lockpicking, destruction, organharvesting, hacking).
Now, the provided weaker NPCs teammembers are enough for the simpler missions, but it gradually becomes more challenging, to the point where you need to start relying on other players.
As to the progression system for players, there are a bunch of skill trees where you can modify your player from, they range from the standard weapon types (pistol, SMG, shotgun, melee) to the fantasy & cyberpunky (Enchanting, hacking & rigging (drone warfare)) and they branch a bit, and you can generally upgrade after almost every mission for the first ten or more, keeping it fresh and giving you a good motivation for continuing on.
The story is better than average, the mission design is varied.
But I think enough has been said about how the game works and so on; I had fun. It definitely had that "Just One More Turn!!!111" quality for me. Admittedly, Ive only played less than 10 hours, but I think those hours I did have time to, it was worth it. And with a bit more polish and hopefully enough content to last a lifetime, its a nobrainer if you like TB combat in a technofantasy setting.
Now excuse me while I play some more.
