I have been playtesting Age of Mythology: Extended Edition for a week, played over 30h, and yes, the game is worth it. If you are at least marginally into RTS, this is a game you shouldn't miss.
If you are new to AoM, you're in for a good old real-time strategy experience that shaped the world of RTS gaming, all in a fun mythological setting. Specific mechanics like god powers and mythological units make the gameplay unique and interesting, bringing different style, but with the same basics, to the whole of "Age of" franchise, the paragon of strategy gaming.
If you played the original, you're going to get the same great gaming experience, but with some extra goodies. Obvious are enhanced graphics and support of today's resolutions (I've been playing on 1920x1200 with no problems) - the graphics take a while getting used to as there are some harder to discern things due to the new lighting and colour scheme of map backgrounds, but overall the change is nice and adds to the game, making it more attractive for first timers.
The most important addition is revitalisation of multiplayer through Steam, which looks just like old ESO. You have Quick Search for random matchmaking, advanced games for all your fun and scenario games, chat lobby and they added Leagues and Events. They've also included Treaty mode (ceasefire until certain amount of time) and the option to disable Titans (the unit). You can check the video I made about the Multiplayer Online Lobbyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqrHJFDpsa4
Another fun thing is the Steam Workshop and the fact the game has been made more friendly to modders. AoM community has always been full of talented people producing fun and useful content like various UIs and custom scenarios, and even before launch, there are mods already trickling in. Plus most of the original custom scenarios should work even on AoM:EE, so no real way to get bored with this game :-)
Last thing in need of mentioning is improved support of Observer Mode and streaming - you can now see various in-game stats of players like resources, upgrades in process and similar in an easy to navigate table to give you a better idea of how are the players doing, and you can also switch to players' perspectives. This same interface works in recorded games, so you can analyse even those.
All in all a nice remake of a great game. If you loved the original, you'll enjoy this, if this is your first time with AoM, you'll enjoy it, too :-)
