Patch 2.3 Now Live!

Patch 2.3
Just a minor update only 1 day after Patch 2.2 went out. Updating the version was necessary to prevent cross build desyncs due to the war salamander pathfinding fix.

Bug Fixes
Amphibious units can now traverse terrains properly once again.
The game will no longer spontaneously pause due to breakpoints existing in some AI scripts.
Desync tracking system will now generate logs when you play scenarios.
You cannot enable the desync tracking system in quickmatch (settings are ignored).

We're still looking into some data fixes that went into Patch 2.0 Hotfix #3 that got lost when Patch 2.1 was introduced. For example, the AI won't cross Yellow River.

We are also aware there is a refresh issue in the lobby browser. This isn't something that was changed, so we believe there is a problem on the Valve side, but we are investigating this. Some people have posted information that if you change the dropdown from ping to something else and back again, it'll recover quicker.

This "improvement" is inferior to the original - and this will be my first negative review on Steam...

I actually reinstalled the original game from the discs to make sure I wasn't going crazy! It looks fresher and crispier all around. I don't know exactly what they have done with the EE, being a new render method or something else, but the graphics are all aroung blocky and blurry - and no, disabling FXAA doesn't fix it.

It is a visual downgrade. Only worth it for more populated multiplayer if you are into that. There should be an option to launch the original game, as there is in other old "polished" games, like the Commandos series. But that would make the poor job of the new "developer" even more obvious I guess...

Awesome game, I remember getting this after years of playing Civ and being amazed. Now it's remastered and I can play it on something other than the pentijum I played it on so many years ago. Thank's Steam!

I used to play this a lot during my youth so I had to purchase the game for nostalgic purposes. The graphics hold up and the charm is still there, but the community is nearly dead last time I checked. However, great game nonetheless just for the single player although the expansion is really rough in the cinematics and objectives. Overall, I recommend it for the summer sale price.

\ Ignore the amount of hours I have here, I've played the original game and the Titans expansion for hundreds of hours. /

- THOSE WHO HAVE PLAYED THE ORIGINAL GAME SKIP THE FIRST PARAGRAPH -
Age of Mythology is a simple strategy game to get into, but hard to master. The game has 3 campaigns (although not the same length) and PvP multiplayer (Online, AI and LAN). The first campaign alone (32 levels) is a lot of fun and the story is very interesting; it will take more than 30 hours to complete this campaign alone! Add on the Titans campaign and another one (which I haven't played yet) and you can easily get over 60 hours of play-time.
The multiplayer is nice and easy to set up and a lot of fun and very competitive.
The mechanics are pretty much the same as any other RTS (Real Time Strategy) game: gather resources, build a big city and army, and finally demolish the enemy. Unlike other RTS games I have tried in the past, the game is easy to learn and the UI is very well set out and organised: you will rarely, if never, get confused as to what's going on or what you're supposed to do to advance/beat the level.

Now, I'll talk about the remastering of the game.
The game is pretty much the same, apart from the inclusion of the expansions straight away; you won't find anything new gameplay-wise or content-wise. What has improved is the support for high screen resolutions (including multi-monitor setups, which I have tried myself and... oh boy... it's faboulous), better shadows and lighting. A cool addition is the ability to stream on Twitch directly from the game; I haven't tried doing so myself but I think it's a nice feature.
Lastly, there's Mods. Still have to play around with them, but as far as I've seen there's some quality stuff.

\ VERDICT /
If you have played Age of Mythology before and want to re-experience everything again and compete against other players, this game won't disappoint you. BUY THIS GAME.
But if you're expecting new stuff, you're out of luck.

If you have never played Age of Mythology you're missing out a lot. BUY THIS GAME.

If you have played any Age of Empires game and you enjoyed them BUY THIS GAME.

This is the longest review I've ever written on Steam.

Great game. It\'s very accurate in terms of mythology. If you\'ve played Age of Empires then you\'ll no doubt love this game. It\'s very hands on. I enjoy the graphics and sounds. The buildings are well done along with the story. The AI can seem a bit broken at times, but it\'s way nicer than Age of Empires AI, so that\'s a sight to see. Though there are parts that can get rather boring, it makes up for it with quick-play matches, and even a multiplayer system. The units are very ranged and it\'s interesting when you play as different groups like Nords, Egyptians, Greeks, etc. The system is very easy to learn and understand so even if you\'re new to these kind of games it\'s nothing to be scared of. Overall, a good strategy game.

This game was one of my firsts. I grew up sitting in front of our old desktop with my brother beside me spamming cheats and crushing the Egyptians. 10 years later me and my brother are on opposite sides of the planet and still we are able to come together and crush the Egyptians (without cheats mind you ;P). this game has vastly improved and its so refreshing to see a 10 year+ old game get a remaster and even new content in the form of DLC.

TL:DR
Amazing Game. Cheats are fun.

10/10 would lazer bear my way to victory again.

AoM: Extended Edition is certainly in my top 3 favorite games.

I have the Titans expansion with the original game on disc but it is not compatible with newer computers, I am very happy to see that it is on Steam, with multiplayer! There are also new add-ons that aren't in the original besides multiplayer, which includes being able to choose Chinese gods or even Titans!

I really love this game.

love this game
a bit sad that they try to push the expansion pack down your throat...
improved graphics are barely an improvement in my opinion.

Still recommend this as it provides a possibility to play online again.
also +1 on no titans
