Patch Notes (1.1.18)

11/20/2014: 1.1.18

Greetings all! This is a pretty big patch that we have been working on and we are very excited to finally be able to share it with you.

Soldier Level Changes
All soldier levels have been reset and any prior experience gained has been granted back to you in the form of tokens. These tokens will allow you to re-level your soldiers however you deem fit. Cards now increase in cost at each level to insure the game is balanced for new and old players alike.

Reward Changes
Rewards have changes from quantity to quality. They accrue in-game on the left-hand side of the screen rather than popping up and interrupting each turn. Gold and experience are given immediately. Other rewards are shown as cards of three different qualities (parchment, leather, metal). These rewards are given at the end of the game. Additionally, you now get bonus rewards at the end of the game for killing the enemy’s hero and shrine.

In general, the idea with the new reward system is to grant more gold, with components and cards being rarer, but more exciting rewards. Getting a metal reward is sure to be something good.

8 New Units
The Autumn Pack allows you to receive two new cards for each faction as well as two neutral soldiers. These cards can be viewed in the store or under Expansion 2 in the Card List.

Hero Deck Changes
The first three Heroes (Daggan, Declan, Skorn) still come with 30 card starter decks and are earnable by leveling up to levels 3 and 6. The remaining Heroes are now cheaper and no longer come with starter decks.

Improvements
  • Added ability to move/attack in one click. Your unit will move into range and attack in without requiring a second click.
  • Added ability to click on tiles for more information. Resource tiles will say how many gems you will gain. Trap tiles will say how much damage will occur. Spawn tiles will say if they are capturable or not.
  • Soldiers now play animations when viewed on the cards.
  • Screen resolution is now auto-selected rather than popping the dialog on launch. Holding Option when the game is launching will allow you to access the resolution dialog screen.
  • Friendly games now grant turn rewards!
  • Fusion page now displays what stats will change when a card is upgraded.
  • You can now click on your cards and view their stats during the mulligan stage.
  • New background music! Each hero has their own unique background sound track which is played during their turn.
  • Added hash marks to the in-game health bars at 25%, 50% and 75% to easily recognize if you can cast spells like incinerate (which is now set to 25% or below).
  • A small popup will now display when a unit uses an ability
  • The default view is now slightly more zoomed in. You can change views (including returning to the more zoomed out view) but using the zoom button in the lower right corner to toggle through zoom levels.

Balance
  • Action Points have been removed from the game. With the added resources they seemed less important to the late game so we are going to experiment without them as they may be unneeded complexity.
  • Building a mine now takes a unit’s attack (Similar to breaking a mine).
  • Totems:
    • You can only have 1 of any type deployed on the battlefield at one time. If you deploy a 2nd of the same totem while the 1st is still on the map, the first totem will be destroyed.
    • Furnace totem now has a range of 7
    • Decay totem now has a range of 6 and effects soldiers only
    • Fire Totem has a range of 6 and effects soldiers only
    • Orchid Totem now has a range of 7
  • Skirmisher: disarm removed, counter added - cost increased
  • Necromancer: disarm removed, tribute undead added
  • Green Dragon: disarm removed, tribute treefolk added
  • Mountain Trapper: disarm removed, pickpocket added
  • Destroy now only returns 75% of the destroyed soldiers casting cost
  • Dreadmaw cost increased
  • Incinerate changed to target enemy soldier with 25% health or less. Cost reduced by 1.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a resource bug which could cause extra resources to be in the bank the following turn.
  • Fixed a resource bank issue in extended matches that caused spells like Mana Leak to subtract resources twice.
  • Sleight of Hand now correctly triggers only on Hypnotize.
  • Chain Lighting no longer bounces off of totems.
  • SharedPain factors in the unit’s defense before distributing damage.
  • Charge should now trigger abilities that fire on attack.
  • You can no longer break a mine and then charge.
  • The battle log now correctly shows the amount your opponent spent on drawing cards on the 2nd and 3rd card they drew.
  • Tangle now disables move rather than setting it to 0.
  • Jumping over lava pits no longer takes extra move points.
  • Propagate will no longer spawn units with the level of the hero. They will be level 1. Same with Gorin's build construct.
  • Pickpocket is fixed for when the attack happens on the opponent’s turn (ambush).
  • Block no longer gives 500 DEF and instead actually blocks any attack as intended.

Conquest of Champions is the perfect blend of Collectible Card Games and deep turn-based tactical strategy that only the creators of PoxNora could deliver. Think 'Magic the Gathering' meets 'Warhammer' or Chess.

Build your personal deck strategy and bring your cards to life by summoning fully animated creatures, casting devastating spells, and equipping powerful weapons all within battlegrounds that are reminiscent of tabletop miniature warfare.

Modes

You can choose to complete an entire match in real-time or you can take turns asynchronously and complete matches that extend over several days.


Conquest offers both PvP and single player options. In PvP you can challenge your friends or climb the leaderboards & compete in tournaments by battling ranked opponents. Currently our single player options are just practice battles but our development roadmap includes full campaigns and boss battles.

Free to Play

Conquest is free-to-play in that you are given a free Hero and starter deck when you register and then can unlock the other two factions at level 3 and level 6. You will earn additional cards, components (used in crafting), gold, and experience just by taking ranked turns and completing matches and quests. Everything in the game can be earned. As you play you will be able to expand and customize your deck with the cards you unlock.


For those who do not want to wait, we offer a couple DLC bundles which allow you to acquire Hero decks at a bulk discount. The 'Starter' includes one hero from each faction for the price of two heroes. The 'Mega-Hero' includes every Hero in our release set and first expansion (this assumes you get to level 6 for the starter ones).

Early Access

We are excited to open the doors to the beta to give a sneak peek at what is coming with Conquest. While the game is very much playable we have a great deal of features to add. Some of which include:

- Expansion Content: We will be releasing regular expansions to add additional depth and strategy to the game.
- Auction House / Trader
- Tablet Build: With cross-platform support.
- Guilds
- Automated Tournaments: Round Robin, Draft, etc
- Unique Skins for Heroes/Soldiers

I thought I had liked it. You can see my buddy Roder has a top review here, and I agree with most of what he said.
The gameplay is pretty fun, I don't mind long, thoughtful fights. I thought the mechanic they had going for them (where you take your turn and then can come back hours/days later to play again) was really smart and it kept the game w/it's none-too-large player base interesting.

But heaven forbid you get sick or have to work, or possibly even have a life. I was in the top 40 - rank 32, couldn't play for a few days, came back and every match I was in I apparently auto forfeited, down to 117th! I was winning 80% of those, hands down.

I foolishly put a few bucks into this for heroes. Considering the multitude of hours they just threw away. I can honestly say - F*ck this game.

Have a hour (and more) to spend on one match? Enjoy playing mix of strategy and card games? It could be a game for you. Keep in mind that it does have really sloooow gameplay. Also, looks like spending some money will make you have advantage over enemy.

Played the game a few times. It's a bit confusing, because you don't really get to finish one match at once, you get notofications over several days that it'syour turn. Couldn't find enough interest to check steam again and again for notofocations.

Great game, it's extremely polished, especially for an Early Access game. Yes, there are glaring bugs that do get annoying, but don't let that stop you from jumping in and having fun.
I have actually never played a CCG that was LESS pay to win. Let me repeat that, this game is absolutely NOT pay to win and those that have stated it is...I'm honestly not sure what they could be talking about. In the time I've played, already I've crafted all but four of the "Exotic" cards that can be crafted. After 200 matches, I've not gotten every card I've wanted, but I'd say 90% of the current release is sitting in my library.
The interface, is very tablet-centric, and I do not like that, however, due to feedback, it seems the next patch will make the interface less tablet focused and be more appealing to the PC gamer.

It's currently in early access as I write this review, so there is somewhat of a low population. Worsened by the fact that this is a tactical ccg genre, it is already a smaller niche audience. The matches take very long (20-40 minutes on average). The grind is perceived as very slow. But the great thing is that each turn you take in ranked games, you CAN gain cards, fusion material, exp or gold - so it builds up and after one game you can have several rewards/cards earned. On top of that, if you win, you earn a small card pack. There are synchronous matches you play in real time, and asynchronous matches you play 1 turn at a time - both ranked matches you earn turn rewards.

It is not very pay-2-win, but it is pay to skip or pay to accelerate. You don't have to grind for 3000 gold for a new deck, when you can plop down $5 for that deck. They are intending to give all 3 starter decks for free (which is what they announced for future plans). Buying more cards/decks doesn't necessarily give you an assured win, but it helps to optimize your deck's strategy (boom, rush, turtle, etc). Everything you can buy with real money, you can buy with in-game currency. The deck you will have in a 1-2 month's time, you can get right away by purchasing with real money. But then after 1-2 months of playing, you'll be re-earning tons of cards you've actually bought with card packs.

Overall, I am a hardcore fan of the tactics genre, so I will recommend this to other hardcore fans. But I hope they make their game more accessible to the general audience. Games are very long, it is hard to find other new players or AI to practice against, and it will take a few weeks of grinding before you get a really competitive deck.

Newbies in particular will have a hard time, since its low population, you will get matched with more experienced players very often. While this may seem very unfair at the start, you will gain a more competitive deck over time and understand the game better by playing better players. I reached top 20 rankings after two weeks of playing, but only after matching top 10 players consistently. It is a shark tank for newbies at the moment, and many do not survive :-) If you don't have the patience or dedication to get through the initial hump, this game probably isn't for you.

I was deciding between Conquest, Scrolls and Faeria for a tactical CCG. But Faeria will be in closed beta until end of 2014 and Scrolls is dead, so you might as well try Conquest out anyway, because 1) what's the harm in trying, 2) it's free to try out. I will update this review if any major changes happen. Until then - gl hf.

A cool combination of chess, card battle, and turn based strategy on the fantasy RPG archetype. Been playing this game about 5 days or so. The game is well-balanced as far as I can see, and paying for cards doesn't seem to give people much of an advantage. I look forward to this genre getting bigger in the future. One of the most fun free games I've ever played.

Thus far, I'm totally digging this game. It's a good turn-based, strategy game on a grid. The gameplay is reminiscent of Final Fantasy Tactics, so definitely check it out if you loved FFT mechanics and wished it was online and multiplayer. The battle system is easy enough to pick up and a fun challenge to master.

I do have some beef with this game. It's still in the beta stage, so I experienced a few bugs (inability to deploy in the middle of a match or a unit completely disappearing for no reason), but they were few and far between. Although the game is free-to-play, my main beef is that you will need some 'dinero' to compete seriously.

Overall, it's a good tactical game and has the potential of being a great tactical game. Try it.

If you look for a card game that allows for deep tactical combat and both rapid and drawn-out battles, you should try Conquest out. The game is free, rewards you with enough to not have a big advantage over people who buy booster-packs and is pretty stable software-wise. Since I initially wrote this review, there has been a major update, which made the game even more rewarding gold-wise (The currency you buy everything with in-game).

The last major problem I saw was the amount of players online at any given time. This gets better pretty fast now and the time spent in the queue waiting for a match is going down constantly. The option to play an extended match, where both opponents have 3 days for their respective turns helps a lot with still being involved, as you can have a lot of them running at the same time against players who you'd never meet online!

7/10 and on a good way to ascend further.

Don't listen to the negative reviews! This is a good game, the negative reviews seem very inaccurate. I doubt they even gave the game a real chance. Give it a try for yourself because I found the game quick and easy to get started and satisfying and rewarding to play. Even though you have a fun and complete game to play here, it is still also being worked on and improved, so it will only get better... there is little to lose in giving this game a try for a couple of weeks. It really doesn't take much time and it becomes even more fun when you get the hang of things, which isn't tough at all.

only a c ouple of hours in, the game seems ok, but as an early access game it is a bit rough around the edges! (Note, if you try this, start your three extended games first to 'activate' the pracise button >.<)

alot of it is confusing at first, there's little to no explanation on what the icons are or how it affects things (differing attack types for example), debuffs and buffs should be more easily visible...

only real gripe is that the game seems to go unbearabley slow as far as progression goes, maybe a one off 'newbie' pack of cards for a small amount in the store (e.g, 100 gold for 5 cards, with one random rare), to give you an idea of acquiring cards and mixing things up, and prevent the uphill struggle that is practise AI with a full level 2 deck and exotics versus your stater decks, or the mass grind to afford your first upgrade.. will keep an eye on this one, provided it keeps a good balance and it's not too paywallish, might be worth a go!

The game itself is pretty good, but its the only game I've ever heard of to release an "expansion pack" while the game was still in beta. I gave the developers $19.99 when this game 1st came on Steam, and there was talk of making people pay again for an "expansion" while the game is STILL to this day in beta. The whole moneymaking sceme of this game turned me off and I quit playing because of it. I see they gave the "expansion" content to people that paid for the pack that I did, but the damage was done already in my case, cause I'd be damned if I gave them 20 bucks for a game still in beta, and then have them try to charge me again for an "expansion" while the game was still IN beta...if a game is in beta...its not an EXPANSION...its adding more content for the official release. When I paid for Minecraft, they didnt say...oh! we are putting horses in the game...but only if you pay us another 20 bucks before release. There was some good strategy involved in playing this game, and it was decent, but since the talk of a paid "expansion" while still in beta, I havent touched this game on principle, so even though they added the content in question to those that paid, the developers can take my 20 bucks, but also my bad review, and the fact I'm unable to recommend the game with the glimpses into the plans they had rolling in their heads about how to make the most money they could before the game was even out...Here's a tip...if you need money for development of a game, dont make early access FREE TO PLAY, make the finished product free to play, and give the people that paid you money early, some kind of bonus for backing your project. I followed this game early, the plans the developers had, and what they saw for the future, it wasn't a pretty picture for people paying to play it, and the incentive to pay wasn't there...so just go F2P on this one, and take out of it what you can, while you can, cause I dont see this game being around very long if they try to screw the people giving them money to cater to the free to play people who whine about the game being pay to win.

I have been playing a lot of Online card games for years, and this is the most terrible one I have ever played. Not only the UI is bad, but also the game design is terrible. Sadly I uninstalled it after trying it for 10 mins, it's a waste of time. There are many good card games out there that you can play, don't waste your time on this one, period.
