Patch 1.1.11 7/24/2014

24 iulie 2014

Today's patch is a large one, encompassing a lot of balance changes, improvements to how we load data, and lots of fixes. As always, please let us know if you run into any issues.

Rank Reset
With today's patch, we have reset the rankings and started a new tournament season. Details on the tournament can be found at http://forums.conquestofchampions.com/index.php?threads/call-to-arms-tournament.1870/
As part of today's patch with the rank reset and the numerous balance changes, we have removed all in progress games.

Improvements
Current abilities now disable mouse interactions until the ability is complete. This is largely due to issues that occur if you take another action before the ability is done such as moving onto Foolish Grommit’s corpse before he raises into SoulSpark. It also fixes many playback issues that caused units to appear on top of each other (they were a result of actions occurring too quickly and playback getting actions out of order). Some examples include: SoulSpark, Construct Ritual, Transform, Counter, Double Attack, Manipulate, and Skull Head Staff.

Soldier Cost overhaul
- Implemented a new base cost formula for balance. ALL soldiers cost have changed. All other cards cost have increased.
- Players now start with 6 completed mines
- Shrines now have a passive MINE ability and generate 2 minerals of your Heroes faction every turn
- Player 2 Gets 1 Additional (off-color) Resource to start the match
- All maps have 2 shrines and 8 neutral mines in addition to the 12 completed mines.
- Leveled soldiers now increase in cost at levels 3/6/9 (1 gem increase each milestone)

Shrines have a new ability called Hero Bound: “When this shrine is destroyed, friendly Hero loses 10 DEF, opponent Hero gains 10 DAM.”

Data is now locally cached on your client. This should speed up loading of various pages and loading of the game as this data will not need to be retrieved from the server.

MatchMaker now matches off of Rank as well as ELO. This is to help address the matching woes we had for top players who had large ELO gaps.

Additional constraints added to MatchMaker to prevent being matched with the same player in sequential matches. This mainly affects EMs when both players were queued multiple times and were matched across all of them instantaneously.

Balance
Mua Tidewalker - Damage reduced slightly, DEF increased slightly
Fixed Mua’s description to state it will only trigger on attack rather than damage.
Blood Witch - Blood Scry ability was removed (was overkill with Overflow)
FEED ability now properly costs 1 AP
Fixed Essence Drain’s description to say it will target the unit that is most hurt, rather than closest.
Mind Control expires once the casters turn is over
Banish now is an activated ability with a range of 3 (so it can be countered).
Fracture now is an activated ability with a range of 5 (so it can be countered).
Recruit is now on a 2 turn cooldown
Octopi Blade now sets the equipped soldier's range to 1
Mine Thief is an activated ability with a range of 5 (so it can be countered).
Warlock Staff now does 50 fire damage to the equipped soldier every time it triggers. Cost increased to 5
Sustain now heals the Hero 75 (down from 100)
Cull the Herd now only heals the Hero 50 Hp’s (down from 100)
Bolster now only heals the Hero 10 HP’s per soldier in play (down from 20)
Cleanse can no longer target Heroes (as intended)
Mend Stone and Mend Treefolk now have a 2 turn cooldown with a range of 6 (up from 5)
Chain Healing: Heroes receive 50% of healing
Heroes have had their HP’s increased by 150. They also gain an additional 100 HP’s in Epic form.
If Healing fountain targets your Hero, it only heals for 50% the amount (25)
Escalate bug no longer triggers on damage, just base attacks (as intended)
Gold received in turn rewards has been boosted by 25-50% (Double gold reward quest will be added in NEXT push)
Starter Deck / Heroes prices have been reduced to 10 crystal or 1000 gold. In a future build all starter decks will be earnable through campaign quests.
Last Stand now adds +50 DAM (down from double) - cost reduced to 2

Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue causing the battle log to have an increasing amount of whitespace at the end of it
Fixed an issue preventing the battle log from being able to be scrolled by clicking and dragging on it
Fixed Discard
Fixed visual effect on Grave Revenge
Fixed issue that could cause units to fail to load for opponent when summoned from a spell (Propagate).
Fixed timing issue with DeathRattle that could cause a visual playback issues (units not dying until the sync stage, etc).
Fixed playback of Siphon
Fixed Pyrrhic to work when opponents forfeit.
Fixed the Faction level up graphic to appear correctly when it shows after getting experience while in a game
Fixed issue with QuickMatches over a slow connection that could cause actions to try to playback for the wrong turn. This would lead to frozen games and other ugly game states.
Various bug fixes.

Despre joc

Conquest of Champions is the perfect blend of Collectible Card Games and deep turn-based tactical strategy that only the creators of PoxNora could deliver. Think 'Magic the Gathering' meets 'Warhammer' or Chess.

Build your personal deck strategy and bring your cards to life by summoning fully animated creatures, casting devastating spells, and equipping powerful weapons all within battlegrounds that are reminiscent of tabletop miniature warfare.

Modes

You can choose to complete an entire match in real-time or you can take turns asynchronously and complete matches that extend over several days.

Conquest offers both PvP and single player options. In PvP you can challenge your friends or climb the leaderboards & compete in tournaments by battling ranked opponents. Currently our single player options are just practice battles but our development roadmap includes full campaigns and boss battles.

Free to Play

Conquest is free-to-play in that you are given a free Hero and starter deck when you register which is everything you need to be competitive. You will earn additional cards, components (used in crafting), gold, and experience just by taking ranked turns and completing matches and quests. As you play you will be able to expand and customize your deck with the cards you unlock. If you aren't sure which faction to use, feel free to create alternate accounts to try them all! Note: We will also be exploring ways to unlock each faction under one free account in upcoming updates. Stay tuned!

For those who do not want to wait, we offer a variety of DLC bundles which will help scratch your collector's itch. The 'Starter' includes a Hero of each faction so you can explore all three factions immediately. The 'Mega-Hero' includes every Hero & starter deck in our release set at a discount. And the 'Complete Release Set' is geared towards the 'completionist' in all of us.

Features

* 3 game modes: Single Player Campaign, Asynchronous PVP, or Real Time PVP.

* Customize unique decks with over 130 cards at launch.
* 3 Factions to choose from: Stonehold (Dwarves and Constructs), Briarwood (Elves, Beasts and Treefolk), and Embercult (Demons and Undead)
* Each soldier has unique attributes and up to two special abilities such as ‘Double Attack’ or ‘Chain Lightning’.
* Earn experience, gold, components, and cards by taking turns in ranked matches or completing friendly matches.
* Global ranking system - play ranked games to climb the leaderboard.
* Make cards more powerful by fusing them together.
* Craft exotic rare cards by completing sets of components earned through gameplay.
* Daily Quests and Achievements
* Regular Tournaments scheduled seasonally
* Exchange strategies with your friends via the lobby chat.
* Cross-Platform play! Mac/PC and coming soon for iOS and Android tablets and mobile devices!
* 3 Unique Map Backgrounds (Mountains, Forest, Caverns), each with multiple map layout variations.

Early Access

We are excited to open the doors to the beta to give a sneak peek at what is coming with Conquest. While the game is very much playable we have a great deal of features to add. Some of which include:

- Expansion Content: We will be releasing regular expansions to add additional depth and strategy to the game.
- Auction House / Trader
- Tablet Build: With cross-platform support.
- Guilds
- Automated Tournaments: Round Robin, Draft, etc
- Talent Points: Per Faction Talent Trees
- Multiple Decks Per Hero: This is a big one we are hearing about from current players and we are listening!
- Unique Skins for Heroes/Soldiers
- Spectator Mode / Replays: Ability to watch others play. This was highly demanded during our first tournament and we can't wait to get it in.

People who boost their decks through real cash have the advantage/upper hand against those who don't. Why is that, you ask? Because the match-making system pairs newcomers (with only their starter decks) against these sharkers. If you think it's "fun" or "challenging" to play against someone who has 40+ arsenal of devastating cards while you've only got a starter deck, then by all means play the game and enjoy in this sadomasochistic merry-go-round. The game has potential, so it's kinda sad to see that pay-2-win and an unfair matchmaking system (there are almost always around ~200 players online, so I don't see why shouldn't a newbie be matched with a newbie) makes it a title to stay clear of... at least until (and if) these issues are adressed properly (alongside the ridiculous paywall for the new heroes.)

If you're a fan of fast-paced, tactical strategy games (like me) you will find this game to be ... very depressing. There is nothing really wrong with the combat or strategy, but more with the intensity, or in this case, lack there of. If you play this game, I hope you don't have any plans for about the next hour, not because you'll be playing many rounds of this because it's so addicting, but more because it's so slow. I have never been so bored playing a game before. It takes the computer about 10 seconds at least to make a move, when it takes me about 2-5 at most. Many other games (like Civilization) will decide what move to make in about 1 second. When it was my opponents turn, I basically went on YouTube and watch some videos, just to arrive like 5 minutes later to see that my opponent is still moving. My next problem, isn't anything to do with the combat or action, but the game in it's entirety. I found this game to be extremely similar in concept and design, to Mojang's game "Scrolls", scaringly similar. But, let's assume this game has no relation to "Scrolls" at all. My only other complaint is that there is no way to adjust the sound or music. Yes, you can "enable" and "disable" it, but no meter or slide to let you increase or decrease audio to your liking. In the end, I'd have to give this game a 4/10, and that's being a little nice. The slow-paced combat just takes so much out of the game, and the resembalence to "Scrolls" is a bit concerning. However, this game is "free to play", and it doesn't take up a lot of space on your computer. So, I'd say, install the game, play it yourself, and if you don't like it, at least you didn't get ripped off by having to pay $20 or worse. If you like the game "Scrolls" you might enjoy this ... however you likely will not.

Conquest of Champions is a game that has a lot of shiny things dangling in front of you, but the only way to reach them is by wading through pools of mud. It just makes you go through a lot of hassle to get something you want. That, or you just do it the dirty way by forking over money and gambling for digital cards. And it's for that reason I have a bit of trouble recommending this to people.

If you guys want to see the basic gist of the game, here's a quick look video showing off its gameplay and most of its good side. It's long for a quick look, but strategy games always never go quick. And for those of you who like to keep things brief, I'll leave the summary below.

http://youtu.be/VzypW8CM2-0

I'll start by saying the gameplay is solid. The way to win the game is simple, just kill the enemy hero and the towers on their side, but what makes it fun is the mechanics behind it. There's tons of interesting units and spells that do a variety of things, and the units themselves all have specific abilities on top of filling the board. The heroes you control have powerful special abilities and can transform into even bigger monsters that dominate your foes. The resource mechanic of gems, action points, and cards flow well together. Are you out of actions? Then use gems to squeeze 3 more beatings out on your opponent. Running out of cards? Sacrifice one gem to luckily draw the spell you need to finish off a unit. And if you're short on gems, there are plenty of cards that give you more, and units can easily build mines to increase the flow once again. Combine it all together and you got yourself a mashup of meat and magic pounding against each other in the center of the battlefield. And the one named the victor is usually the one with the best chemistry and tactics.

But now that I got the reason you should play this game out of the way, I have to tell you about the stuff dragging the game through the dirt.

You start the game by selecting a hero out of 3 separate factions (basically the typical fantasy dwarfs, elves, and undead. Nothing new or unique). What you really don't know is that you're choosing the ONLY hero you can play without forking over money or gold. That's right, you pretty much go on a blind date that ends up as a shotgun wedding, so I hope you're happy with what you pick. Sure you can start a new account for free, but why should you have to go through the hassle just to try out another playstyle? And if you do, you won't be able to pool all your cards together from your other accounts, so it highly discourages you from changing right off the bat.

Another peeve of mine is most of the cards you get as rewards you can't even use. Imagine how I felt after I played multiple 30 minute matches, opened up a deck with the gold I acquired, and I could only use a SINGLE card out of the 5 given to me. One of the cards was even a component you can only make use of by combining 3 other ones to MAYBE craft a card you need. And even then, you need to level up your hero/faction in order to even craft the bloody thing in the first place.

And speaking of crafting, let me tell you a little more on how bad it is. Plain and simple, you cannot craft the all the cards you really want and make the deck that suits your playstyle. Instead, you can only make 4 for the faction you have. And even then they smear dirt in your face because you have to get lucky with crafting drops in order to do it. It's just a sad, sad joke.

Now don't get me wrong. I get the reason they do this. It's a FTP game, and they want to make money by charging you for more cards. That's perfectly fine and acceptable. But why should they limit you so greatly to just playing a single hero? Sure I may like him, but I want to see/test if I'd like another one better. I want diversity! What they should be charging for is just cards that tweak each faction, or at least grant us one of each of the factions' heroes so we at least can grasp the basic mechanics behind each one. That way when I get a card for a certain faction, I can actually use the damn thing without it being completely useless to me. I'm even able to overlook the garbage cards you can't use in anything besides crafting if they at least grant you access to other heroes from the very start.

And since we're still on the topic of their business model, nothing ♥♥♥♥es me off more than a token system that almost NEVER comes out even. This isn't Chuck E. Cheese. There should be straight cash bundles for everything I want. Most people don't want leftover hot dogs without buns. But that's the kind of crap you're gonna be dealing with as you'll have to overbuy crystals in order to get what you really want. It's just dirty business practice.

*(updated) It looks like they have some straight cash bundles on steam now, which is a good start. Let's hope they stay there*

But still, I think the enjoyment I had in the game outweighed my annoyances. But just marginally. It being a FTP game made that so. I also would've listed that lacking playerbase as a negative since it's so hard to find a match, but with this being released on steam, it will hopefully fix that. That, and they are promising to implement a card auction/trading system, so hopefully that'll also fix the card issues just as long as they don't milk you. It is only early access, and they are probably going to listen to their community so that some of these issues are fixed. If they have good sense, anyway.

So all-in-all, I think you should give this game a shot and see if it's for you, just as long as what I listed doesn't bother you. It's still fun and a decent time-waster that'll put your brain to work. And my brain certainly needs work.
