GameGuru receives a major update!

TheGameCreators today announced the long-awaited release of the newly upgraded graphics engine for GameGuru, giving everyone the ability to render their games using Physically Based Rendering (PBR) shaders for improved visuals and thanks to DirectX 11, improved frame rates.

Lee Bamber, CEO of TheGameCreators, said "The task of swapping out an entire graphics engine was tough, but we got stuck in and made it happen. Along the way, however, we did not lose sight of other features that our great community wanted to see and we made sure that users not necessarily interested in better graphics also had something to look forward to."

This major update includes:

Great Assets and Levels
  • Improved the Welcome splash to show off PBR game level
  • Updated Big Escape level to use PBR only assets
  • Added new 'Miscellaneous' folder with 'Massive Chess' for Chess Game sample
  • Security Fence and Gate
  • Added 'Preview Orbs' folder to Misc models for PBR material previewing
  • Added CityscapePBR folder which contains extra PBR assets for Big Escape
  • Added two new Grand Pianos to the Furniture folder
  • Added a new glass fence to the Fixtures folder
Much Improved Performance
  • Removed long-silence when standalone first runs (slow on some systems)
  • Launch time loading speed increased significantly (PCTEST: 60sec -> 12sec)
  • HLSL shaders and LUA scripts now compiled into binary for faster loading
  • Faster HUD rendering due to quad batching
  • Multicore AI for faster processing of character AI
Better Visuals
  • New post process shader used called FXAA-CV-LS (improves anti-alias and contrast)
  • Fixed issue with Steam Overlay not rendering correctly
  • Enlarged editor icons and gave them a new design
  • Cascade shadow mapping now with 8 cascades instead of 4
  • Standalone splash screen now detects closest watermark resolution
  • Can change sky shader in sky file and sky in realtime
And more........
  • Added full weapon and animation behavior to the Character Creator
  • More control over static light mapper
  • Added support for Logitech F310 controller to control Standalone menus
  • Improved FBX importing
  • Added lots of new LUA commands
At the start of the year we opened up the source code of GameGuru so the community could help improve and expand on their favorite game maker and the response has been amazing. Amongst the contributions from the community was an entire Chess Game, complete with board, chess pieces and the logic to run the entire chess game, including computer opponent to play against. If you ever doubted the power of the LUA scripting language for making GameGuru level logic, you can put that gremlin to bed.

Many of the improvements in this update are a direct result of contributions and involvement from the GitHub collaborators and we appreciate their skill and time.

Upgrading the graphics engine has been a huge undertaking and this major update has taken some time to complete.

With such a large change to GameGuru we are anticipating issues from those users who did not participate in the Public Preview build testing, and we are on standby for your feedback so we can correct any remaining issues. We have created a special Issues Tracker which you can use to report anything you find or even feature requests, by visiting:

https://github.com/TheGameCreators/GameGuruRepo/issues

We hope you enjoy this update and look forward to bringing you more PBR assets and new features, with more help and advice along the way. Our aim is to make your journey into game-making that little bit easier - we hope you enjoy the new GameGuru!

Mega Pack 2 DLC Update

We bring you another update to one of our DLCs! This time from the massive mega pack 2, featuring improved PBR textures for 10 items including the candlestick, book and several items of furniture. By converting these items to fully Physically Based Rendered assets, you will notice they now have nice shiny reflections from the gold leaf of the book and metallic candle holder.

The PBR rendering won't come on-line officially until we release the DirectX 11 engine during the next major update, but you can check out the latest test version by using Steam and choosing the Public Preview of GameGuru to take a sneak peek of what is to come.

Back in the main product, work continues apace on multiple fronts in addition to the forthcoming release of the DirectX 11 renderer.  We have recently unlocked the projectile system so you can now add your own projectiles as part of your weapon building work, so you are no longer limited by grenade, rocket and fireball. We have also made some significant improvements to the weapon control system overall, allowing more authentic weapons to be crafted (more on this in a future announcement).

We'll continue to upgrade more entities to PBR assets in the background, and in the meantime, if you want to get your hands on the Mega Pack 2 DLC, it's currently on promotion right now:

About This Software

Welcome to GameGuru, game making for everyone. Our mission is to create the easiest and most enjoyable game creator. Join us and our great & enthusiastic community on this journey. Imagine creating a world that you and your friends come together and play... and creating it could be a matter of minutes with no technical jiggery-pokery needed at all! Of course, you can happily spend hours, days..even weeks creating your masterpiece, the great thing about GameGuru is, you won't be held up by learning strange alien languages or using complex modeling tools. The time you spend with GameGuru is all about creating and having fun whilst doing it.

When you first launch GameGuru, it may appear to be a simple level editor, but it's actually crammed with lots of useful tools you will need to make your own game, including a character creator, model importer, building maker, complete scripting language and of course, over 6GB of complimentary game assets to get you started. The fact it's as easy as any in-game level editor is a plus, and unlike level editors, you get to save out what you've made and even sell your game!

We've created a small game level for you to play and enjoy, which shows you how you might lay out your level, and balance the combat to give the player a challenging experience. You can, of course, edit this level any way you wish and learn from an existing demo level rather than start completely from scratch. We believe there is nothing on the market which enables you to create and share a 3D game as quickly as GameGuru, thanks to a massive starter collection of assets, our easy drag and drop approach and built-in game logic so you don't need to code it yourself (unless you want to).

It also has powerful editing tools for those who want to take their game creation to an even greater and more complex level. The power is there at your fingertips.

As a welcome bonus, we have also included an expansion pack with over 2.8 GB of additional game assets for you to get started, completely free! In fact, all the art you see in the screenshots above are included in GameGuru and you are free to include them in your games, no strings attached. We do sell additional content DLCs, but with over 6,000 megabytes of game assets already crammed into GameGuru, the DLCs are entirely optional.
