About This Game

It's the future! And humanity is, predictably, under attack by extraterrestrial forces. Lucky for us we have an experimental ship that's never before been flown that will surely...uh, possibly...well, implausibly be able to win the war! All we need now is a pilot or two.

Key Features

  • Fight through five increasingly-populated shoot-em-up stages
  • Destroy a plethora of enemies (or, as we like to call them, "potential explosions")
  • Switch between two distinct weapons on the fly: bullets for lots of damage over lots of space and a locking beam for concentrating on those hard-to-reach areas!
  • Use your shields to zip unharmed through enemy attacks!
  • Overcharge your weapons on the fly for even more destructive power!
  • Original faux-orchestral soundtrack is like music to your ears! Because it IS music. For your ears.
  • Multiple game modes, from the start-at-any-level normal mode up to "I have but one life to give for my planet" survival mode.
  • Local co-op allows you and a friend (or even a complete stranger that you're willing to invite into your home, if you want) to team up and deliver double the delicious destruction!
  • Support for playing in portrait orientation for a true top-down shmup experience!

At first, Procyon seems like a great horizontal shoot’em up. Graphics and effects are bright and crisp. Price is suspiciously low (but there are no upgrades or more ships). Soundtrack is decent and narrator creates a nice futuristic atmosphere.
One of the things that I liked was ability to combine your guns with shield. There are two type of shots and each makes much more damage combined with an active shield.
Anyway, there are more than a few problems. Biggest one is very bad level design, there player are often swarmed with large groups of enemies, with mostly a random chance to survive. In addition, there are only 5 levels in an entire game! Devs probably wanted to stretch the length a bit, by making some levels way too long. Believe me, its simply too hard to avoid those pesky ships for 10 minutes and then die near the end of level to restart again… Well, the game does not end with this short campaign. There are survival mode, more difficulties… But it doesn’t matter because all feels unbalanced and repetitive.

Procyon is an innovative shoot'em up, but not really a fun one and way too short to leave a solid impression.

5.5/10

Beautifully presented. The story hardly exists, but Command's voiceover and cutscenes are a riot to listen to and watch.

Gameply is spot-on. Every weapon abiliity and enemy is thought out and placed perfectly in the well-crafted stages.

Yes, it's short. Yeah, it's pretty easy. Don't let that dissuade you from adding this to your tab on the next sale.

It is fun shoot'em up game but not very complex( no upgardes and unlocks) or long, there are like 5 or 6 levels total and you can finish campain under 3h. but it is also quite cheap so maybe price would be just right for you :)

An OK-ish top down shooter.

When you first fire it up it appears a very fun game, but the longer you play, the more grating it becomes. The lack of power-ups, tiny amount of levels, little variation in enemies, absolutely boring boss battles and at time unfair placement of trash enemies did indeed get on my nerves after a while.

The music doesn't really suit the game either, but that may just be my own personal opinion.

Note that I don't actually give this game a bad score. It is not a bad game, just a mediocre game. But I feel that the "very positive" score that the game now gets on Steam is not waranted; at least I hope that my vote will balance the final score somewhat.
