About This Game

In One Way Heroics, you take on the role of an intrepid adventurer who must travel across the land and face the Demon Lord before a mysterious shadow engulfs everything.

Darkness always approaches from the left, and with each movement or action you take, the void creeps ever closer. Forced to run right, you'll encounter any number of monsters, allies, thieves and shops on your desperate journey to stop the end of everything.

The good news is that you don't just have access to one world. You have access to all of them.

  • A nearly infinite number of worlds to save and explore!
  • Multiple classes to unlock, each with different skills and advantages.
  • Dimensional Vault: Don't waste extra valuables! Lock away your inventory and save it for your next run!
  • Time control: when the going gets tough, the tough freeze time and work out a new strategy.
  • Steam goodies: trading cards, emoticons and wallpapers that proudly broadcast your OWH finesse!

Every world is different and unique. Lust forests or corrupted hellscapes, adorable animals or cunning thieves, each departure is a roll of the die. You might find likeminded heroes willing to journey with you, or you might meet no one and be forced to venture into the unknown alone.

Like a dimension you previously visited? Simply input the name at the Dimensional selection screen before you begin your journey. Want to try your luck with a random reality? Type any word that pops into your head, and watch as One Way Heroics builds you a world based on the name you chose.

Infinite permutations. Infinite worlds. Infinite adventure.

*This game supports Cloud Saves for most system data including clear data and unlockables, however mid-game saves do not carry over.

This game is nothing short of amazing. The plus DLC is a must, I recommend starting on that to get the full experience, balance and story. It's a fairly typical rouge step up sans amulet but the mechanics are highly refined and the visuals minimal but quite adorable nonetheless.

I picked up OWH for like 99 cents during some Steam Sale forever ago, and immediately fell in love with the simple but fun gameplay.

The art style is pretty standard, with stylized anime portraits for some characters but sprites making up the majority of the overworld art. Classes are all different enough to justify multiple playthroughs with each class, though some are definitely harder to use properly. Gameplay is easy enough to understand, and the difficulty is challenging enough to keep you interested but not quite enough to be frustrating.

Ultimately, the whole game is really easy to get into, with enough complexity to waste a few hours here and there and get really involved.

I would recommend the Plus DLC as well, since it adds a lot of complexity to the game. Overall, great timewaster, great game, tons of fun.

really unique concept that suffers a bit from some enemies being too weak or strong for your level

~you can buff equipment to be crazy stong, but they will break if you don't find repair scrolls, which were fairly uncommon for me
+great roguelike that I greatly enjoyed despite it being a rpgmaker game
~really stretches the limit of the rpgmaker genre
+excellent concept that creates an imposing threat for a turn by turn game
+inherent abilities let you escape being killed by the death wall or bad rng by stopping time
+each class feels different to play and each rewards you
+doing well unlocks upgrade points to buy more storage for items to carry over
+as long as it doesn't break, you can store items in your vault
-animals are really weak, while evil knights and minotaurs are exceedingly strong
~bandits can be a good challenge or a casual filter
-opening chests requires lockpicking and even with that it's often better to bash the chest open
-chest rewards are pretty poor, and cost an exceedingly long time to open, often putting you close to death for a couple silver
-chests, dungeons, and towns can be way out of reach, making any attempt at them pointless because of the materiel cost of surviving them
-getting too many weak animal enemies leaves you underleveled when you fight the really tough enemies
-equipment breaking is not obvious, a couple runs i was killing things naked because I didn't realize that my stuff was broken
+stat screens give plenty of data on how things generally work, plenty of other games like to lie to the player

if you like classic roguelikes this game is a must have, I'm also told that the dlc, owh+, greatly overhauls the formula and general gameplay.

An addicting and enjoyable roguelike. The transferring over with saves is interesting, and the random maps make the game replayable. The story and items are simple, as well as all of the mechanics, yet there is still a since of discovery as you find different things on each world. I highly recommend it; get the DLC as well.

You start out in a castle. The darkness is to the left of the castle. Every time you move, the darkness engulfs more of the screen, forcing you to move right. The people in the castle do not move right. Their screams will spur you onward as you look for a way to end the destruction of the world, and will remind you of the price of failure. (They respawn when you do, of course, so don't mourn them too long. The darkness waits for no one!)

As you move further and further right, you collect items, kill enemies, gain levels, and fight evil wizards by pelting them with rocks. You die a lot--sometimes from enemies, and sometimes because you landed on the wrong side of a wall or a mountain range while out of time stops. You have to start over each time, but you get to carry over some of your best items to your next life, so it's not that annoying.

It's not earth-shattering, but it's a fun little roguelike for only $3.50. If you like the genre, you won't feel like you wasted your money.

I spent 56 hours on this game?? How???
It's awesome. It's never really the same experience because sometimes you get screwed the instant you step out of the castle, and sometimes it's easy for the first 600km. DLC is a must buy. I just cleared the dimensional passageway and it was great. A great challenge.

If the hefty price tag of $3.50 scared you off, worry no longer with the steam summer sale. 87 cents is perfect to round off any change you have with an interesting and addicting RPG maker game that, unlike most of the RPG maker backlog, is actually an RPG. Worth grabbing the DLC too, if you're the kind of aristocrat that bathes in tubs of dollar bills.

if this game had been released back on the NES, it'd be considered a legend of the day along with FF and Zelda franchises.

Charming Rogue-like, I got this game for less than a dollar

The story is simple, you are a Hero who must defeat The Demon Lord, The Darkness always approaches from the left, and with each movement you take, the darkness creeps ever closer. once you start there is no turning back, literally.

Totally recommended if you enjoy these types of games

This game is a lot more addictive than I first gave it credit for. The randomly generated worlds are done well for the most part and you gain access to multiple classes that change up your strategy. One Way Heroics looks simplistic and barebones from the outside but I've had a lot of fun gradually unlocking more options to play around with. I'd say there's plenty of content for the money.

You can play as some nerd while having a dog gril, a money-hungry ♥♥♥♥, and a overly horny castle guard follow you as you walk to the right for an indefinite time until you die from a rock being thrown at you at 139km. 8/10 would slay feral creatures for money again.
