i bought this game for the achievements (surprise), so i consider any gameplay to be a bonus. its pretty fun. sure, i barely have any hours on it, but from what ive played so far, i think its pretty interesting. now, im not saying that its a super amazing popular game that should be displayed on the steam stores "featured" page, but for $3, its pretty good. (i bought it on sale for $1). it has a pretty cool concept in my opinion, and i like how simple it is. do i recommend it? well, yeah. mostly for the achievements. but if you arent into the achievement showcase, its debatable. its only $3 though, its not like youre gonna have to sell your car to buy this game :P

LYNE is a visually simplistic and minimalistic puzzle game where you have to connect shapes in certain patterns in order fill the board, similar to the classic game of connect-the-dots. Although it’s quite restricted in its gameplay, the combination of the polished, intuitive interface, conciliating, dynamic audio and simple concept makes this one of the best casual games available on Steam.

As you progress further into the game, the puzzles increase in difficulty and complexity, thus, players will ultimately resort to the drawing board on several puzzles. However, even though it’s very limited in terms of its variety, the game never felt tedious or mundane and I was able to appreciate the challenging, yet addictive nature of LYNE, whilst simultaneously solving the ingeniously designed puzzles.

Even after completing all the achievements and unlocking all the colour palettes there isn’t really anything to stop you from playing this puzzler. With the addition of 50+ daily puzzles, this game also serves as a pleasurable mental exercise and I would be lying if I said my analytical thinking skills haven’t improved since experiencing LYNE. If you may not know, I don’t hand these out like candy but this game impressed me enough that I’m comfortable giving it a 10/10.

Pros

  • Price Point, this game is incredibly cheap priced @ $2.99 and (at the time of this review) is on sale for $0.89.
  • Gameplay, one of the few puzzle games one can call 'relaxing'.
  • Achievements, 90% of people bought this game for the achievements...

Cons

  • I really wish I had atleast one, but this game is perfect...

The game feels similar like those puzzle games you find on mobile devices, and like those games, it's very addicting to play it. The mechanics are simple, the difficulty is fairly challenging but still fun to play, it's not too easy to make you feel bored but also not too hard to make you rage quiting, feels like Portal 2-ish difficulty where sometimes you just need to actually think, have that 'AHA!' moment, and then feel like a legendary genius for solving it.

Also, if you're into decorating your profile with achivement showcase, this game has a very clever achivement icon which is basically a letter A to Z, you probably need sometime to unlock all of the achivements, but since the game is fun to play, it is definitely not an issue.

Don't mind my negative review, that's only my opinion, and I would perfectly understand that other people would precisely recommend it for what I didn't enjoy myself.

The main reason why I couldn't recommend LYNE, is because I bought it at full price, and would have expected a bit more variety in its gameplay. Apart from the multi-nodes, it's always the same idea, and there's no new mechanic involved further on.

Sure, there's a lot of hand-crafted levels, which is usually a good point in puzzle games, but for LYNE, it felt like it was a bit too much. It seems like you're always trying to solve the same level over and over on the long run, and I even noticed some of them being exactly the same, except rotated in a different manner.

Now, I'm not saying LYNE isn't worth it. If you're just looking for a puzzle game to kill some time, without being afraid of the "assembly-line work" feeling of it, then just go ! The minimalistic art style is fantastic, and you can even chose your colour palette, which I appreciated a lot.

If I was to be honnest, I don't think that game is that interesting on a computer, you might prefer playing LYNE on your phone/tablet whenever you feel like it.

If you expect diversity, this might not be for you, but it remains a nice little puzzler overall !

A minimalistic puzzler with a simple concept but ramps up the difficulty as you progress. A great time-consumer and the large-scale layout can easily be played on the TV screen from a distance, making it extra relaxing due to the sofa factor.
