Análises

“It quickly reaches those magnificent moments where you’re working out new rules on the fly, realising that if you apply previously acquired understandings you can make logical leaps and eliminate or highlight in a brand new way. Those are special moments that only very few puzzle games manage.”

Hexcells is a minimalistic puzzle game in which one has to decide if orange hexes are either grey or blue ones with the help of several hints.

  • The puzzles slowly become more complicated with more clues to look at over the time. All three games (Hexcells, Hexcells Infinite and Hexcells Plus) have different mechanics added to the original in the beginning.
  • The game is extremely relaxing. There is no "Game Over" screen and no timer. You can solve the puzzles at your own pace with calm music in the background and fitting melodic sound effects.

I highly recommend trying to solve the puzzles slowly without making any mistakes for the most enjoyable experience!

  • Every single puzzle of the three Hexcells games is entirely solvable with logical thinking and without the need to guess during any of them.
  • Hexcells Infinite offers an additional mode in which you can generate puzzles with random seed codes.

Without doubt one of the most polished puzzle games I've seen, and even though I dislike Minesweeper, I loved this game to bits.
Highly recommended.

The biggest challenge is clicking the left button when you meant to click the right one and vice versa.
Brings a new twist to minesweeper. Good to play when you're listening to a podcast or something. Would recommend to people who didn't get all the minesweeping out of their systems.

Already finished with the game, but it was really enjoyable while it lasted. Like, REALLY enjoyable. It's basically Minesweeper, but with six sides per tile. So if you like that, you'll love this. And I don't think I had to guess here at all, which I can't say is the case for Minesweeper. Get it as a bundle (I got the bundle for under $3 during the summer sale) with the other two Hexcells games.

This game was a ton of fun. Easy relative to the later versions (I've cleared Hexcells Plus) and a good introduction to the series. Kind of a cross between Minesweeper and Sudoku.

What can I say about Hexcells? If you enjoyed Minesweeper or similar games - you will enjoy this game. I'd recommend picking this up when it's on sale or in a bundle. Enjoyable, but not very long.

This game is AMAZING, if you like good old minesweeper, you will LOVE this one! :) This game is great to relax, way more forgiving comparing to minesweeper, way more variative, and way more fun:

+Visuals - nice and soft color palette
+Sound - Super soundwork - all the clicksounds fit the background ambient music (when you click on hexcells those sounds fits the background track srsly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), each pack of levels has its own relaxing music track.
+Gameplay - this is step forward from classic minesweeper, it has additional mechanics *japanese crosswords* like + various forms of the gamefield.
+Steam achivements
-No steam cards

Got this game (3 games pack) on steam sale, expecting some kind of minesweeper, but this game is way better! Totally recommended.

Hexagon Cells?

Highly Recommended

Hexcells was the most fun and challenging puzzle game I have played in a long while. Hexcells is pretty difficult to describe but it uses hexagons with numbers to tell you how many bordering hexagons you should light up to complete the stage. The game incorperates more factors later including how many light up hexagons are in a line or if they are all in order or split up. Hexcells was a pretty short game and it wasn't the hardest but I have heard the others in the series are much harder and they are on my list now.

It IS an abstract puzzle, like minesweeper or sudoku or something like that, and it has a nice atmospheric sound and visuals to go along with it, but that's all it really is, honestly. It feels really insubstantial. Simply adding more levels isn't what I want, either. Nor is adding more mechanics. I just think it's hard to make an abstract puzzle game feel as fun as some of the other games out there. It took me 2-3 hours to 100% and I didn't really end it feeling like I was glad I played it.

Plus, the music loop starts to get annoying after awhile. It's too short, plays too often, and isn't mixed in with other tracks.

And the core gameplay loop is pretty much just - reveal the obvious stuff, then hunt around for the next thing you can reveal. That's not that fun to me compared to what you do in other games. It's not the lack of action or anything - I'm fine with slow-paced, turn-based, or other puzzle games. It's just the lack of problem solving - this game is all deduction and very little intuition. I like working with and experimenting with a hard problem and going over it in my head and trying different avenues of solutions and trying to come up with observations and rules and constraints that I can use to simplify the problem. You can find that core gameplay loop in lots of excellent puzzle games, but you won't find it here.

If you like minesweeper or sudoku you should definitely give this a try. Otherwise, even if you're a huge fan of puzzle games like me, I'd probably avoid this. You're not going to find that problem-solving engagement and stimulation here, unlike what you'd find in lots of other puzzle games. There's no experimenting, discovery, or anything like that. It's just "oh here's the next spot for which I can prove its contents" and "hmm, where's the next one?".

As a counterexample, an abstract puzzle game I DID enjoy was Splice (you might argue that it's not TRULY abstract since it uses a sort of biological metaphor, but I think of it as one). That game has plenty of that "problem solving high" you get as you experiment and observe and work through a complex problem.

Buy the bundle with Plus and Infinite! Got it on sale for less than three dollars, and got about 20+ good puzzling hours out of all three. Totally worth it.

This game is similar to Minesweeper, but with some interesting twists. It's also incredibly short, yet satisfying. I bought it on sale and am so impressed I want to buy the others in the series now. I'm kind of on the fence whether the full price is worth such a short play time but if games like Minesweeper are your thing, this game is definitely something to experience.

Do you like Minesweeper? How about Sudoku? Do you like logic and deduction puzzles involving numbers? Then let me introduce you to Hexcells. It’s a short and reasonably priced game that will give your brain some much needed exercise involving a bunch of “Aha!” moments.

It starts off like Minesweeper, but then gradually adds more and more layers of complexity. The gameplay involves deducing whether the hexes need to be saved or destroyed. Black hexes contain numbers that you can use to determine if there are blue hexes (the ones you mark/save). For example, if you have a 0 hex, then 0 hexes around it need to be saved while a 3 hex means 3 hexes must be saved. You do that for a while until the game starts throwing symbols and numbers on the outside at you. A 2 at the top of a column means there are two hexes to save in that column. A -2- in a hex means that there are two hexes to save that cannot be adjacent to each other. The trailer is good about showing the gameplay. Not a single puzzle relies on guesswork. It’s all about your brain processing the information so that you don’t make mistakes. My playtime reflects the time it took me to have 0 mistakes on all the puzzles.

If number logic puzzles are your thing, then Hexcells really is a good choice of game that’ll last you a couple days.

The whole Hexcells series are really great puzzle games. The blame is totally on you for any mistakes you may make. They give you all the tools to figure out each puzzle if you can figure out the logic. The learning curve for figuring out that logic is spot on. Ideally play through the series straight, as the second and third game do start with more complicated puzzles and slightly new variations sooner. The feel as you go through a puzzle is likewise great. Occasionally you may get stuck for a solid length of time. The payoff is well worth it though. When you figure out a new bit, you get a solid rush as you suddenly can tick through another dozen cells with the new information provided.

Only two small complaints for the whole series. There is no separate toggle for the music and sound effects. Fortunately the music track is quiet enough that you can play something else over it and mostly not notice it. The music is nice and mellow if you want that, but not really the most engaging when you are stuck at the same spot for a long while. I went with the Classical Complete Works station from Pandora and it suited the mood quite well.

Second, the puzzles towards the end get quite long and there is no means to save mid puzzle that I could find. I assume this was so that you couldn't cheese your way to perfection. I would prefer the game at least give you the option to save in the middle if you were quitting and have the save auto-delete when you continue to prevent that. They did implement this in Infinite though. 5/5

It's a nice, little minesweeper-esk Puzzle-Game. It remains rather simple until the last 2-3 Levels.
There could be much potential with an integrated public "mod"-system. Playing user-generated Levels could proof fun and challenging.

It's a great game, but its original price is a tad too high. Only get this game on sale if you are a big fan of any puzzle games, but most noticeably Minesweeper, Picross, and Sudoku. I simply say the original price is too high because there's not too many puzzles. I consider myself an "experienced Picross player" so I finished this in less than 2 hours (with perfect score mind you, so no guessing). For a buck it's a steal. Do not guess anything, everything is given to you. Sometimes you may have to deduce it logically
