Reviews

“Even if you don't play puzzle games, Monochroma should still entice you with its dark art style, mysterious plot and clever challenges”
9/10 – That Video Game Blog

“After the emotional roller-coaster Monochroma puts you through, you might wish for a happy ending, but not every ending is pleasant – and sometimes it’s just good enough that something has ended. Play the game all the way through, and you’ll know exactly what I mean.”
Indie Game Magazine

“Nowhere Studios have proven that games can be a piece of art, and this one will tug at your heart strings.”

Monochroma is a gritty, dark little 2D platformer game about two brother who try to escape a dystopian city.

Gameplay 7 of 10
Classical 2D Jump-and-Run Game. The jumping parts are sometimes a little inaccurate and some parts are trial-and-error parts, which are a little frustrating. But never the smashing-your-controller like. When you're not jumping-and-running you have to solve little puzzles, e.g. placing crates in a way that you can cross a river with your brother .All in all quite tricky.

Story 8 of 10
You play the bigger of two brothers and have to backpack your little brother for most of the game and uncover the secret of "The Company". The mood of the game is very dystopian and bland.

Graphics 7.5 of 10
The whole game is held completely in black, white and grey colors with sparse dashes of red. It's really impressive and yes even a little bit depressing. Reminds you a little bit of Sin City. Way to go.

Music 7 of 10
There's almost no music or sound also no voice acting. Only metallic noises from the surrounding buildings and factories , raindrops on metal , this kind of stuff.

Man, I really wanted to like this game but...it's just not very good. I was initially drawn in by the striking art style. Obviously evoking Limbo, the art direction is very cool and the world is interesting as well. Unfortunately, that's about the only bright spot for Monochroma. It's doomed by sluggish controls and trial-and-error puzzles that lead to aggrivating deaths. I'm not usually one to get frustrated, but this game made me want to throw my controller through my screen after the 8th time replaying a platforming section and my character constatly missing a ledge and dying.

While it may look appealing, Monochroma fails as a platformer and proves to be more frustrating than enjoyable. Spend your money and time elsewhere.

Producers inspired from Limbo much. But that's not means game is bad. I think games is underrated and not deserve metacritic scores. Have very nice visuals and soundtracks.

This game is amazing! Beautiful visuals and music, and clever gameplay. One of the best puzzle platformers I've ever played. It keeps getting compared to Limbo, but I think I enjoyed Monochroma more. I just wish little brother was ... more helpful.

an surprisingly good puzzle platformer with a stunning art style. imagine a (much) less masochistic, more story-driven LIMBO.

an awesome piece of art. recommended for those that love these kinds of indie games 8/10
