There will be no peace for the wicked.

First of all, thank you all for your understanding to my previous announcement, I'm really moved by such a warm response. I just would like to explain myself a bit better and also try to clear any doubts you may have regarding FoF's future.

Why online reputation should matter to any of you.

One of my complains wasn't about negative reviews at all, anyone has the right to write such reviews as far they are minimally fair. My complain was about reputation tarnishing reviews. Someone in a highly upvoted review that can be seen on top implied that I usually ban legit players right and left and treat all those people like shit. That was the actual problem, I never have done that, that's not me. That's just a wicked and very negative image of me someone was touting as true. I'm a game developer, if I ever wanted to release a new game or talk about my past projects, should I have to carry such fabricated reputation on my shoulders?

There's lot of young people around here that may not understand the full implications of this behavior. It's not a game, reputation tarnish practices are an actual crime in lots of countries. Any of you have the right to protect your reputation as much as I do, and that's what I tried to do and probably didn't explained properly. This is as serious as it can get, really. Upvote any negative review if you think it highlights an actual problem, but please, report those who seek to destroy other people's reputation.

About Fistful of Frags future development.

I'm not just leaving this mod behind to never come back. I'm stopping my development duties as implementing new features or designing new maps. I fully created half the official maps approximately and also coded the entire game, there's not much more I could actually add to improve gameplay or overall feel.

However, I'll keep doing maintenance work as bug fixing and other backstage tasks. I'll be cooperating with the community when needed, for instance: adding new community maps to official rotation, new assets or whatever the community brings to keep FoF alive. If any of you want to contribute somehow, feel free to do it. You'll make lot of people happy, except a few haters ;)

Edit: the mentioned review is not showing now, the author probably made it visible to friends only, who knows why...

Why developing this game isn't fun anymore.

This is a message directed towards those who still care about Fistful of Frags and appreciate the huge effort done by me and others to polish and improve this free game on Steam.

I'd like to remark that many updates were released during almost two years for a game that doesn't seek cash or benefice of any kind. We started with 4 maps and 1 game mode, now there are more than 20 for 4 different game modes. FoF did not receive donations or monetization of any kind, it actually costs me some money. I mention it because it also means complete freedom, freedom to stop when you feel is right to stop, and this time has come.

Developing a free game is great when you feel connected to its community and your work is appreciated. This isn't the case anymore. It's more or less normal that the so called “haters” pop up from time to time, but signs are too evident to ignore them. Just take a look to highlighted reviews in Steam store and you'll see what I mean. There're pay to win games out there that get less harsh reviews than we are getting now.

I also would like to clarify that I banned someone recently that seemed a cheater to me. Don't remember any other ban in the last half year, since I started to change the code to break the public hacks around that time. I was wrong, however his reaction was overly dramatic and it seems to have ignited a campaign not only against my person but the game itself. I may be a jerk but the game and all its player base have no fault and shouldn't be the target of this campaign. Let other people enjoy FoF even if you don't do it anymore.

This isn't only about some random persons hiding behind their computers to attack me or this game. I know that I'm not in touch with the community regulars, I don't feel confident in some the feedback gathered by the community so I tend to ignore it. I understand that this pisses some people to no end but that's how things work with me. Do you think I'm a jerk? I could tell you 1001 ways of people being jerks to me along this time but that would be a time waste.

So just to clarify, things have to end eventually. No drama, that's just how things are. The game is quite polished right now, lacks content but it can be added if someone feels like creating something. Thank Source engine for being so easy to mod. Just wanted to be as clear as possible, say goodbye and that's all. I prefer to leave it here as things will get worse over the time. That's what happens when a multiplayer game dies, and Fistful of Frags has had a very long life, being an actual free game and all.

About This Game

Fistful of Frags born years ago as a Wild West themed modification for Source engine. It has been completely renewed for its Steam release, paying special attention to combat mechanics.

Also note this is a completely *free* standalone mod, no micro-transactions exist, no registration required. Just install and play. You may see ads when joining certain third party servers that host our game for free. That's however completely unrelated to FoF dev team, we do not profit from them.

Features

  • Classic death-match and up to 4 teams death-match: non stop, all around action
  • Teamplay-objective based game mode: zone capture or 'push the cart' levels.
  • Detailed dual wield system: double dynamic crosshair, weapon flip for extra accuracy options, drop or throw your handguns as projectile attack
  • Advanced multiplayer bots for off-line practice
  • Historical black gunpowder based weapons as Colt Peacemaker/Navy/Walker, S&W Schofield, Volcanic pistol, Deringer, Smith Carbine, Sharps rifle or Henry Rifle
  • Customization options: choose primary/secondary weapons and special perks
  • Skill based scoring system: the more skill required to accomplish an attack, the higher score is
  • Source Engine 2013: community managed dedicated servers, LAN support, 3rd party level design and user customization allowed

This easy butter chicken recipe can be made in 35 minutes and is SUPER delicious. It's rich, creamy and addictive. It's also very easy to make dairy-free!

Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients
2 tablespoons grapeseed oil (or another neutral flavoured oil)
1 lb. chicken breast or tenders (see notes)
2 yellow onions, roughly chopped
3 tablespoons chopped ginger
6 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tablespoon garam masala
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon coriander, ground or seeds
1 teaspoon cumin, ground or seeds
¼ teaspoon fenugreek, ground or seeds
¼ to 1 teaspoon chili powder
Seeds from 4 cardamom pods
1 - 28-ounce can of crushed or diced tomatoes
2 tablespoons almond butter
2 tablespoons dairy or coconut cream
2-4 tablespoons brown sugar, to taste
Optional: 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
Sea salt, to taste (I like about 2 teaspoons)

1.Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a medium-sized frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts or tenders and cook, stirring frequently, until they are cooked through and no longer pink, about 12-15 minutes. Remove them from the pan and cut them into 1-inch chunks.

2.While the chicken is cooking begin preparing the sauce. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion starts to brown, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for 1 minute more.

3.Add all the spices all at once, or remove the pan from the heat for a moment while you add them. (garam masala, turmeric, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, chili powder and cardamom seeds) Let the spices cook for about one minute, or until they are quite fragrant. Add the tomatoes to the pan and scrape up any stuck on brown bits. Add half a cup of water and bring the pot to a boil. Lower the heat to medium and let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes.

4.Carefully add the sauce to your blender and blend on high until it is very smooth. Add the sauce back to the pan and stir through the almond butter, dairy or coconut cream and the optional yoghurt.

5.Serve with a side of rice.

Fistful of Frags is a free Source mod where players battle it out in a parodical Wild-West landscape. Now, before you skip to any of the other six million F2P shooters out there, know that FoF is one of the most unique and balanced games I've ever had the pleasure of playing, and that $0 price tag isn't a trick. There's no hidden paywall, no cash-for-buffs system, and (as far as I know) no microtransactions period.

Graphics:
Cartoony, fun, and simple. Not great but they won't get in the way of the gameplay or give you an eyesore. The mix of stylized and realistic texture-work reminds me of Double Action: Boogaloo (another amazing mod, by the way) and that's never a bad thing.

Gameplay:
Absolutely phenomenal. A nice variety of gametypes and more than enough maps make the game unlikely to get boring. Weapons are balanced incredibly well, so nothing is too underpowered to be used well, and all the insanely powerful weapons have enough drawbacks (scope sway, poor range, small clips, etc.) to make them more than defeatable. One thing I love is that reloading is a major concern. While you've got inlimited ammo, you have to reload fairly often depending on the weapon, and reloads are much longer than the usual FPS. This adds a lot of strategy to gunfights and forces you to up your accuracy in order to minimize reloads. Reloading mid-battle is almost certain to leave you dead, which forces you to use all your weapons. Available weapons include various revolvers, shotguns, and rifles, marking a refreshing take on loadouts that breaks away from the dominance of the SMG and Assault Rifle in most modern shooters.

Sound:
Music is very barebones. There's a nice series of music stings that play when you start racking up kills but not much else (though the main menu theme is pretty cool). Personally, I find some of the new voices annoying, but nothing worth doing more than nitpicking over.

Conclusion:
One of the most creative shooters available, and it's totally free. If you enjoy multiplayer FPSs or just want something new, give it a download.

Fistful of Frags is a free to play gem that does not come along that often. It's graphics dont seem super great but they feel only an inch away from the hl2 graphics which is good considering this was made in source engine.
The graphics are never that ugly or at all distracting.

The weapons are all very fun to use even though they can be slow.
The game goes for a vey realistic vibe with these weapons (except with dynamite) by making them much less powerful than in other FPS' allowing for a slow pace with slow ranged weapons in battles between two or possible clusters.
Each weapon model looks pretty nice besides being extremely basic.

As I said earlier battles can be more slow paced than other battles in other games however this game still manages to be fast paced. How?
That's simple. The game uses small maps so that people will run into eachother more without getting rid of hiding spaces and sniper locations. This way if you were to run off from one battle you'd most likely end up in a second battle but if you can evade multiple battles there are still ways to hide and get away from the battles.
The maps are very very nice and allow for some special tactics.
One location in a map allows you to leap onto a train and get around the map sniping enemies while others allow to duck and weave through hiding locations in a shootout.

Other weapons that are not ranged can tie into the place as well. By allowing you to either be right handed, left handed, or ambidextrous you can change your character and your playstyle and when you run out of bullets a piece of dynamite or a well thrown knife can get you out of a pinch.
You can throw your guns and even kick people off of buildings. There are so many ways to kill an enemy you'll have fun finding them all.

Although there is no story there is still voice lines. You can say several things in the "x" menu and even scream out when killed. These are pretty well voice acted.

Now here comes the good part of the game! The points system! This game isn't about how many kills you get, it's about the way you get those kills. Snipe a man down. Meh. Shoot a man with a volcanic pistol. It's Ok. Use a gun with 2 ammo only. That's pretty good. Stab a dude to death. Great! Punch or kick the man to a bloody pulp. BAM you're a millionare.
Not to say that kill streaks aren't important as you'll get rewarded for those too but it's more important to get a badass killl then a gun slinger kill.

Anyway this game is freeeeeeeeee so i reccomend it!

Free, rompin' stompin' whiskey passing fun!

If you haven't played yet, download FoF now! Invite your friends list to smash up a teamplay server, then laugh off the terrible misses and op whiskey.

Aside from an overzealous weapon accuracy nerf, the devolpers have done an outstanding job with this title. I'm saddened to hear it will not recieve any futher refinment as this game still has tonnes of potential.

Fistful of Frags is a loadout-based multiplayer shooter set in the wild west. It focuses on it's unique gunplay and a whiskey-laden health system. It's movement speed is much slower than your average modern shooter, with certain weapons slowing your speed to a crawl, and others (mostly melee weapons) increase it to a brisk walk at most.

My first observation is the weapons, the game is loadout-based, although most of the best weapons are available in respawning chests found around the maps, these weapons are less than perfectly balanced, although the more powerful weapons provide less points on kill, which more than makes up for it, in my humble opinion. My main problem with the weapons is the lack of diversity, there is a few weapon archtypes (shotguns, rifles, etc.) and plenty of weapons in these archtypes, but they don't differentiate themselves enough apart from simple firepower, although the different items help to diversify your loadout.

The health system is a hoot and a holler, lost health is regained by drinking whiskey, but drinking too much whiskey gets you drunk, making your vision blurry and affecting your accuracy. This forces you to choose between being sturdy enough to survive your next fight, and accurate enough to kill your opponents at long range. It's an interesting twist on the healthkit formula.

My biggest problem with the game is the player count versus the map size and spawn points. The maps aren't nearly big enough for the amount of players you commonly find on servers, so people spawn behind people, you get flanked far too often and by far too many people. Smaller groups make the game far more enjoyable, as the spawns are much better when they aren't completely overflowed.

    Pros
  • Interesting health system
  • Point system is interesting and somewhat helps to balance the weapons
  • Interesting and not often explored setting
  • Unique loadout items and sidearms

    Cons
  • Spawn points and map size are not made for the average server size
  • Main weapons aren't diverse apart from set archtypes
  • Graphics are nothing to write home about

Final Thoughts:
Overall, it's unique, fun, and not like any other games you'll find. I'd reccomend you play with a small group, preferably friends. The game's not for the Quake or Call of Duty fan, Counter-Strike players should feel right at home, though.

Rating (Out of 10):
7/10

Fistful of Frags is an incredibly fun Free to Play competitive first person shooter running off of Valve’s Source Engine, set in the wild west. The wild west setting allows the game to be pretty unique compared to other shooters, guns take forever to reload and accuracy suffers often as a result of older cartridge/ weapon types. There are also some more interesting mechanics like handgun throwing, kicking, and dual wielding. Dual Wielding is something that I found really interesting in Fistful of Frags, it’s a risk vs reward type of choice as both guns will take forever to reload, as well as you lose the ability to “fan” (or shoot rapidly and inaccurately) with just one gun. The gun selection is fantastic, having a plethora of revolvers, long range Sharps Rifles, Coach Guns, Bow and Arrows, Dynamite, etc. Healing is interesting as well, there’s no regenerating health so you are non-stop chugging whiskey which heals you but causes your vision to be blurred and controls to be slurred.

Even though I only started playing this game in the past few years I feel a strange sense of nostalgia while playing it. It may have something to do with the fact that the game is often just simple team deathmatch without anything extraneous attached, or the lack of aiming down the sight (for most guns), or the fact that stronger weapons are re-spawning pickups found throughout the level. There is generic FFA, Team Deathmatch, and an interesting Break Bad mode where you try and trick armed players into firing on you as an unarmed character, or try to ferry packages to locations for money which is then spent on better guns. There’s a decent amount of maps and players for this game and it’s always a satisfying experience if you're looking for some mindless fun.

I highly recommend trying this out if you’re a fan of Wild West shooters, it's probably the best one out on steam right now. It’s free to play, but if it had been something sold on the steam storefront, I’d be willing to shell out money for this hectic but fun wild west experience.

Fistful of Frags, or FoF, is a 'Cowboy' first person multiplayer shooter that runs on the Source Engine. It has four different gamemodes, which are all extremely entertaining.
There are a good amount of weapons to choose from, and they are mostly all very different. You could equip anything from a bow-and-arrow, brass knuckles or dynamite.

This game will definetely make you laugh, even if you are losing a game or dying all the time.
The ragdoll effects are great, as are the shouting commands and the ways you can kill other players.
Whiskey restores your health.

I'm very saddened that 'haters' for a lack of a better word, have made the Devs of this game back away from it. This doesn't mean that the Devs will leave the game untouched, it means they will be in contact with the FoF community to ask their opinions on adding Community content to the game.

Although I only have 21 hours on this game, I would say I'm a good player, as it isn't the most difficult game out there. But it never, ever, gets boring.

It's gotten to the point where I'm actually very good at this game. Here are some of my achievements:

- Topping a lobby using only Brass Knuckles, Throwing Knives, Boots, and Handgun Throw
- Topping many lobbies with Dual Deringers (pre-nerf), Brass Knuckles, and Handgun Throw
- Throwing said Deringers across a map and getting a few kills with them (you can throw handguns about 3 times farther than Halo grenades... seriously)
- Going on an 18 Kill-streak with the Sharps Rifle
- Beating up 5 people with Fists and Boots when I threw my gun out of reach on accident
- Getting a headshot through another person from across the map and killing both of them in one shot (with the smith rifle). I SWEAR I aimed this one... Lemme tell you what happened. I pulled up to one of the guys' heads and fired just as another guy walked past him going the opposite direction. Perhaps the second guy was only half-way on purpose, but it's still cool ok so leave me alone. ;c
- Sadly, the most I've achieved from one Dynamite is only a quad, but whatever
- Kicking COUNTLESS people off cliffs and laughing, and knocking people off cliffs using dynamite blasts and... laughing
- And the greatest honor any player can have... PEOPLE HAVE ACCUSED ME OF CHEATING WITHOUT ME ACTUALLY DOING IT!!! :D

This game has HOURS of fun in it and it's seriously worth a shot. The only downside I can think of is the developers. He wrote this long sappy post in the game's news about how developing it wasn't fun anymore and he was discontinuing development, and then he went and messed up the balance of the game (and took out a lot of the fun), making questionable and awkward changes to the layout of some of the maps, and even the nerfing the loadout system itself. This is not to hate on him, but seriously, you tamed a very wild game with these updates. The game was PERFECT after the remastering of the Creek map. There needs to be a version of that game still out there because it was way more wild, fun, and crazy. I have no problem with updates and changes, but you said you would not be developing the game anymore, so it gave me a false sense of security, and that's not cool. Maybe somewhere you said you were continuing again but I recall you saying you might be adding community maps to the official rotation and making "a few tweaks" and that was about it. Sorry, I'm rambling on... JUST DOWNLOAD THE GAME AND JOIN US!

EDIT: I had a run-in with who I think is the lead developer (I forget if he is the only/main dev or not, but if he is, that's...troubling), and he is seriously very rude. I criticized his updates and he whined about me bullying him when I clearly said I wasn't attacking him. You might notice that he also ends up ignoring everyone else who shares opinions with me. He strikes me as immature as he can't seem to take criticizm from anyone, really. He takes it as an attack and, frankly, I think that's childish. You can find the thread here, and I come in on page 4: http://steamcommunity.com/app/265630/discussions/1/357284767248316370/?ctp=4

And to the developer, please don't come whining about how I'm "tarnishing your reputation" or committing slander. I don't dislike you or think you're a bad person, I just think that if you're going to continue releasing work publicly, you need to learn to interact with your fans or customers (if the next thing you release is paid) without being snide, arrogant, rude, and nonchalant about any opinion that differs from your own. Also, I hear that you like to change or delete posts, but it's okay because I have screenshots. I think you need someone in charge of PR, and that's not me trying to be a smart-alec, that's legit advice. I still gave the game a positive review because the game is great, but I don't support you personally. Despite that, I still wish you luck in your future projects and I hope you get better at talking to people who make suggestions about your work. Peace. :)
