I have purchased my share of music software over the years. I've downloaded freeware, some with bloatwear, and even some that works. Magix Music Maker 2014 is the first program that worked immediately upon installation.

Want to set up a midi keyboard and immediately plug-n-play?
Want to set up a microphone and have it work immediately with low latency?
Want to have access to hip hop, dubstep, metal, electro, techno, and rock all in the same program?

This program is a dream come true for n00bs and people that understand VST's, DAW, and other recording industry terms.

I wish there were more "dlc" packs available on steam. The loops are semi-limited compared to FruityLoops or similar software. However, this is easily fixed by importing your favorite VST like Drumkit From Hell or whatever else you fancy.

The program crashed once on my 16gb RAm I-7 Ati duel 6900 Crossfire Rig due to memory failure. It does require pretty intense specs. Might have been a fluke because I loaded seven tracks and was using 10 USB inputs though =P

I recommend the hell out of this product. Whether you want to rap, program music to dance to, make home videos, or create a soundtrack for your own wedding...the whole package is here.

Would give it 10 stars, but settling for 9 due to an overcharge for samples in the Premium version. An extra $50.00 is hefty for more samples.

One recommendation:

Download the Fruity Loops 11 Demo before installing this program. It will come with an AISO latency modulator that makes recording latency nearly flawless. Magix Maker makes perfect use of this in the settings section.

Buy this now! Especially while it's $29.99. First time I've never had buyer's remorse on Steam in a long time!

Great, user friendly, accessable software. Within 4 hours I managed to put together the rhythm, drum, bass and backing tracks to a seven minute song; mix, equalise and import to my music library and listen to it all with a massive grin on my face. This with zero musical training and no previous knowledge of the software.

Strong recommend for those who have musical desire but limited ability, those who want to build their own game/machinima with some kind of awesome soundtrack, or those who have musical ability but not the cash to hire out a real recording studio.

To summarise, keep your eyes peeled for my releases on the web!

Dont't get me wrong: this is not a bad program. I also never tried using the loops or recording anything through a microphone. All i used were the provided instruments and a midi keyboard.

Now, my father is a musician and I was surrounded by original music all the time as a kid. My dad had a Mac desktop that he would make all his music on. After hearing some of the things he could do I decided I wanted to give it a try. So he set me up on GarageBand with nothing but a midi keyboard.

It was amazing. I had the time of my life messing around with all the intsruments and sound effects included in the program. Only one problem: I had a PC and couldn't get Garageband. Then I found this program and was thrilled. Based on the videos and music I heard, I thought it was like Garageband. So I bought it and was very disappointed.

First of all, I had a problem right off the bat when I first started it up and started listening to the demos. I had listened to every demo track and was about ready to start making my own music, and everything froze. I couldn't record anything, I couldn't select an instrument, I couldn't even close the program. Within 15 seconds, a notification appeared saying, "MAGIX Music Maker 2014 doens't work anymore." I sent the error report and the program crashed. I had to end the process of the program through the task manager. Not really a big deal, but it was very annoying, especially since it was my first time using it.

Second of all, the music my father made was all rock music, with awesome guitar licks and riffs. I wanted to start making music like that but there was no electric guitar. There is some very good sounding acoustic guitars, and a power guitar with about one octave of actual notes and the rest being slides, but no normal electric guitar. I'm assuming you can find one in one of the instrument packs that you can purchase in-app, but i had spent my last $60 buying this, thinking there would be some kind of electric guitar.

Third of all, many aspects of Music Maker make writing music very tedious. For instance, if you want a track to repeat itself over and over, you would have to highlight it, place the marker after the track, then ctrl+c ctrl+v for as long as you needed it. Also, if you reach the end of whatever song you're making and want to start it from the beginning again, there is no button to start at the beginning, as there is with Garageband or Logic. When recording something, there is no warning or prepatory beats before what you play is recorded to the song, which makes it hard for the first notes of the track to be on time. There is no time signature other than 4/4, so if you wanted to record a song in 3/4, the bar lines dont line up with the music, and neither does the metronome. this makes it hard to count measures and beats in your head while recording.

Overall, MAGIX Music Maker 2014 is not a bad program. It has many great sounding instruments and a nice, simple layout. But there are many better programs out there for recording music. Since I am familiar with those programs, this one was a little disappointing. I'd rate it 6/10 and price it at about $40.

This program is very easy to use if you have some experience with midi programming and using vst's. It's not a replacement for pro studio electronic music whatever software, it's more suitable for composing or making demos. And a fair share of the instruments could easily pass as real playing, the most obvious being synth, drums and piano. But the bass and guitar sounds are really good too, they just don't do techniques like slapping, hammering and bending(there is sadly no electric guitar instrument other than a rythm guitar, but connecting an acoustic guitar to overdrive works pretty well).

Most programs have me sitting for hours trying to mix so it sounds good, which sucks since I'm horrible at mixing. But this program demands very little expertise on that front, allowing me to just make music instead of fiddling around with equalizers and reverb for hours.

Easy to use, surprisingly good instruments, alot of bang for the buck. You can pretty much make any kind of music you can imagine with this software, from baroque to 80's rock to whatever the kids are listening to nowadays. Haven't found any vocal instruments though, maybe that's a premium version sort of thing. Doesn't matter anyway, voices can be simulated using other instruments.
