It's fun until you get stuck for half an hour because you didnt see the very dark vine on the very dark background through the black scenery that you NEED to climb to proceed.

Grimind is the story of a creature lost in a darkened underworld. Without a single memory of his life or his place, the creature must navigate through a series of mysterious caves, strange mechanisms, and horrifying structures. Knowing he must remember to survive, he sets out to illuminate the darkness not just of the scary world around him, but of his very mind. In the immense darkness lurks something even more diabolical than simply not knowing who he is or what he is, for he is hunted. Red eyes and snarling screams echo off the cavern walls and pierce his very soul, shaking him to his core. Fear the dark, find relief in the light, and escaped the closing corners of your mind. Your Grimind.

Introduction:
Grimind starts with a message saying that you should play this alone at night, with your headsets on, in the dark, to get the full game experience. And that's not true at all! This game is not scary, only if you're afraid of pixels and wet, squishy sounds. On the other side, the physics work really well and the puzzles are relatively well done. The story might get you interested in playing the game, but the ending is a backstab, even if you get all the secrets to get something else.

Gameplay: Moderate (2/4)
You'll be playing with mouse and keyboard, and using well done physics to solve puzzles and advance. Controls are really simple, WASD to move, left click to grab, right click to throw. The puzzles are easy, but I struggled with one or another. Nothing too outstanding. There are secrets, fun ones, and you get something else in the end if you get all of them. Sounds enticing? Don't expect much!

Game Visuals and Music: Moderate (2/4)
The game visuals aren't that much outstanding, too. The platforms are black rectangles with some overlaying leafs (also black) to cover them. The background is low quality but not bad. Grimind looks alright. The monsters aren't scary at all! This game uses colorful lighting very well, and when it does, it's really pretty.
There's no music, only ambient sound effects that fit really well. The monsters make wet, squishy sounds and a dry guttural. Not scary at all, also.

Game Storyline: Bad (1/4)
The story got me interested, but the ending felt like a backstab.
Grimind wakes up in... wherever he is. A cave-like place. He tries to escape, but he also feels too lonely, and needs to find a friend, or else he'll lose hope! And he finds a friend! ...Some blue sparkles. Do they find the exit? Is there an unexpected twist? You'll have to play to see, but I got really disappointed with the ending, I'll warn you.

Game Entertainment: Moderate (2/4)
Not a scary game at all, and I don't even know why it was labeled so. It's a nice platformer with some nice puzzles, though! But it's short. You can see I have 7.7 hours in this game, which 2 I spent hunting secrets. I struggled in some bits, but even so, 8 hours aren't worth it for that price. If you get the game in a cheap bundle, like I did, it's really nice!

Overall: Moderate (4/10)

I don't think it's an "Excellent" game for anybody.
Good game if you get this in a cheap bundle, likes platformers, puzzles, looking for something alternative or short, and something that screams "INDIE!".
Moderate game if you are looking for a scary game, but likes how the game uses physics and the puzzles.
Bad game if you'll buy this for the full price, expecting something scary, gives a try and gets backstabbed with the ending!

Physics and platforming are fun and well done. Sometimes the grabbing onto things can be glitchy. Basically no story, and the little there is tries to be too existential and vague and it just comes out bleh. The ending is dumb. Biggest problem is there is no direction and the game is too ambiguous in its puzzles. You will be in a giant dark level and there are 5 ways to go and you are somehow supposed to know if you grab that green ball in the top right area and throw it into blue water in the bottom left corner that is how you move on. Tons of times I had to look up how to beat a part and would say to myself" how did they expect you to know it worked like that?". Sometimes what you are supposed to use looks like part of the background or you have no idea it works and so you shouldn't know you need to use a certain item a certain way with it, without any clues or information leading you to the conclusion. Hate when games do that. But besides puzzles that usually dont make sense the rest of the game is fun. 6.5/10

Grimind is a game with cool mechanics and controls not seen in most games, it is a adventure game where you play as a lizard (Im guessing its a lizard or maybe a dinosaur of some sort) and you have to get through multiple chapters in order to complete the game, I have only played the first 2 chapters so I am not too sure I can give any comments on the story but it was kinda amusing, I am surprised this isn't a repetitive game, it instead has new puzzles in every chapter which really do take some time to figure out, the bad things I can see about this game is that it has a really big LIMBO vibe which makes me think thats what the game is attempting to be (limbo even shows up in the "More like this" bar), I also do not think the price matches the game at all, from multiple prespectives it can be considered a bad game, and when I said that the puzzles took time to figure out I meant some of the puzzles are almost impossible to attempt since I was for example stuck on the second chapter because I couldn't find a vine I had to climb which I got over but for people with little patience may just quit the game after 5 minutes of trying to find the vine because it was camouflaged in the wall, in the end, buy this game if you're bored and buy it when its on sale, because like I said before, the price isn't worth it, get it when its 25%-50% off.

Despite its obvious lack of visual perfection, this game features a great deal of physics-based puzzle solving in the convincing atmosphere of darkness, loneliness & despair. There are some places that are really annoying because of using the checkpoint system instead of normal saves, but also there are places that I loved, especially wondrous flying vehicle in the last but one chapter. The game's length and difficulty are quite normal for this type of game. Not a bad game, I don't regret time spent on it.

Like many minorities, Polish people have had quite a bit of ♥♥♥♥ dumped on their heads. This game seems like it translates perfectly to a Polish perspective.

You're a grim, ugly little thing thrown into a large, hostile world with little explanation or support. Everything wants to kill you, and only by being clever and quick can you avoid danger and maybe even come out on top.

It's definitely not the most polished game ever, but it's got a nice atmosphere, the puzzles are just hard enough to be enticing without being impossible, and it's not too expensive. Worth the purchase.

tldr; Challenging but rewarding puzzle game, I really enjoyed it and the story line. Pay attention, be curious, and you'll have a blast. I'd highly recommend this if you like puzzle games that aren't easy! It's great!

Fun game, very difficult puzzles in places but not ever impossible. I don't find myself getting truly frustrated most of the time, it's a lot of trial, error, death, and more trial. But the pace at which you achieve victory vs the time you spend dying on each puzzle feels nicely balanced, I only felt once or twice I had to stop and take a breather because of frustration, which is less than most other puzzle games I play.

The mechanics are intuitive and easy to learn, even as they quite often throughout the course of the game throw new mechanics at you to use on more and more difficult puzzles. And I really feel proud of myself when I finally beat a puzzle or learn to use a new mechanic.

The story line is pretty good too, considering puzzle platformers don't tend to have much in the way of plot, so that was a nice surprise. I really like the main character.

Grimind is a game that tries to do too many things and ends up doing none of them well.

It starts out simple enough, with simple clear platforming and goals, with a creepy vibe to the environment. Then mechanics start getting complicated; the puzzles start to hide the fact that they're puzzles, enemies begin to swarm you, deathtraps pop up that you couldn't possibly have forseen. This would be excusable, but then the game's core components start tripping over themselves.

The platforming ends up taking a backseat to once-a-level gimmicks, none of which ever come up again once you've finished them. At one point, your character pulls the ability to create an astral projection to take over an enemy's mind out of his ♥♥♥ (and never uses it after this one time, mind you) but needs to be guided to the enemy first, with the most godawful controls I have ever seen. The rest of the game is playable with the controller, this section cannot be done on a controller because you have to do too much twitch aiming for the controller to handle.

The horror dies quickly once you realize all that's happening is that you're dying over and over again not because of a lack of skill but because your light source decided to arbitrarily change direction or shut off for no reason, or you had to spend a bit too much time underwater because that's the only place you could get a necessary item which slows you down when you carry it, or the enemies' movement patterns are all but completely unpredictable and cannot be reliably dodged. The final boss is especially guilty of this; he spawns hordes of enemies completely at random from the center of his only weakness, which you have to come into direct contact with in order to damage. Have fun instantly dying because the boss decided to spawn five enemies right as you were jumping up to hit him.

The last few levels are an exercise in frustration, forcing you to fight large numbers of enemies simultaneously with a control scheme that wasn't designed for any sort of fighting, in areas devoid of reliable ways of killing them (and only containing one or two unreliable ways to do so), without taking any damage whatsoever. Sure, you can take more than one hit, but without mercy invincibility it doesn't matter as the enemies cling to you like you're made of flypaper. These levels also have sections that don't have enemies, but I don't feel they're worth mentioning and neither does the game because you will not be given a single indication as to what you're supposed to do to progress. Meanwhile, have fun dying dozens of times in a row because the checkpoint system decided to spawn you right next to an enemy, and then not give you another checkpoint until you've successfully competed 5 minutes of needlessly obtuse puzzles.

The story...the story's a mess. You never find out what's going on, your character pulls new abilities out of nowhere just so the developers can shove in another single-level gimmick, the grammar is horrible, and to top it all off once you finally finish the game it turns out everything was pointless because you end up back where you started and then die, never having figured out a single thing about yourself, your opponents, the setting, or anything else.

If you want a horror game, a puzzle platformer, or a trial-and-death game, there are much better games out there than this.

If you're a fan of smart puzzles and love games with a grim atmosphere - this is a game for you. You will die countless times trying to figure out physics, visual and sound puzzles in this dark and disturbing world. There is a platforming element in this game, but it doesn't get too much in the way - you just need some timing, but it's your brain which will do most of the work anyway. The game is unforgiving and doesn't hold your hand when you play it, exactly like the good old games.

Get it and play it!
