Recommended By Curators

"I don't even need to play this in order to know that it's good, because it has an anime girl in it, which is good. You'll probably enjoy this, maybe."

About This Game

... on that blindingly bright day ...
... on that very day of winter ...

This is a story of disease and suffering; of medication and adverse effects; of thoracotomy scars and cellular poisons; of the living who cannot help but to die and of the dying who cannot help but to live; of a resting place other than "on 7F" or "at home".

This is a story of so many things.

But most of all ...

This is the story
of a girl whose heart was standing still
and a boy whose breath was being stolen away,
both of whom die.

If you knew you were going to die, would you cry? or would you curse your fate?

Narcissu is the story of two terminally ill patients of the 7th floor, that decide to leave the hospital for a trip.
We follow their journey through Narcissu and in Narcissu 2nd, a prequel to the first, we witness a similar story.

This VN is short, in around 5 to 6 hours, I finished both games and the epilogue and acquired all the achievements.

The story is very beautifull, but somber, which is expected when the main protagonists are barely hanging on to life.

The style is very minimalistic, most of the art is scenery. A lot of people complained that the art style was not to their liking, but I think it's very pretty, serene and delicate. It's definitely better in Narcissu 2nd.

The music is wonderful and calming, I love it and bought it instantly. If you like relaxing piano tracks, it's worth the listen. You can access it in the extra menu of the game.

I recommend playing this VN, it's free and it is short enough to occupy you on a rainy afternoon. Though the themes explored in the story are daunting and heatbreaking, it still touches upon something we can all retale to, death.

AUDIO: Fun                                                                      AESTHETIC:
MEMORABILITY:                                              WORTH: Free!

PROS: Different subtitle sets are available. The environment is very pretty. For taking place mostly inside a car, Narcissu 1 is engaging. Great soundtrack. Surprisingly Fulfilling for a Free to play game! Several key/mouse options to click to progress, allowing you to alternate how you're positioned while reading.

CONS: All of the game's visuals are trapped in an uncomfortable little letterbox. This is a unique stylization, but a little annoying. There are no character sprites, you see the female lead perhaps 4 times total in the first game. At times, it is nauseatingly melancholy. Voice option is not very good. I found the sequel to be weak and feel that it drones on aimlessly.

OVERALL: There is absolutely no interaction in this VN, but it's still a nice little ride. I liked it, but you may not; If you're looking for a peaceful, satisfying read with a nice conclusion then this is a great F2P story.
