About This Game

... on that blindingly bright day ...
... on that very day of winter ...

This is a story of disease and suffering; of medication and adverse effects; of thoracotomy scars and cellular poisons; of the living who cannot help but to die and of the dying who cannot help but to live; of a resting place other than "on 7F" or "at home".

This is a story of so many things.

But most of all ...

This is the story
of a girl whose heart was standing still
and a boy whose breath was being stolen away,
both of whom die.

It's very understandable why this game is highly rated and recommended for those new to visual novels. The two vns are free, although there is no fancy CG or dirty scences, you shouldn't find your time wasted on these vns.

Plot: Very well written, able to make you have feels. The story doesn't lie to you.
Characters: You're given just enough information for the characters to be real and the rest is up to you.
Time: You can play both novels in under 5 hours.
Music: Music is pretty and appropriate
Voice Acting: not usually something i review in vn's, but even though i don't speak japanese, the emotion is apparent.
Take the time to read through these.

Playing Narcissu is like entering a ring with a professional boxer. Prepare for emotional blow after blow, even when your eyes are swollen and weeping you stay in the ring until the very end. Better have the tissues near. Although the 2nd comes chronologically first I recommend playing 1st then 2nd. 1st helps get you into the world and tells a short sad sweet (albiet slow) story. 2nd is about twice as long and really gets you into the depth of the story of the true protagonists. Well written and nicely acted. Very nicely illustrated backgrounds and lovely if sparse character artwork. One minor complaint in the unrealistic nature of certain part (particularly the journey time in the first part) but if you can quiet the mathematical extreme logical part of your brain and just enjoy the emotional narative Narcissu is well worth the read.

My stats seem to be a bit broken for this one since I didn't have Steam open while I read through it but, I truly enjoyed this VN. I tend to like VN's that get an emotional response from me and, even though the author said that he was trying to avoid doing so, he got one from me.

I still remember when I originally read Narcissu 1st back in 2005. It hit me hard (whenever a novel of any kind opens up with suicide statistics you know you're in for an emotional ride) but, Side 2nd really fleshed out Setsumi's character in a nice way. The epilogue even gives us closure for our unnamed reader surrogate protagonist from the first novel which really helped me tie up the loose ends in my mind.

With this being free too, it's an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys this medium.

Wow okay, I am sure many people may see a easy game to 100% especiallly if they read the guides on steam and realise I quick way around reading it all out I urge people to at least read all of the 1st one; I wasn't too sure about the story at first but at the end I was left with tears in my eyes and on the verge of crying' such a beautiful story even if you do not get it at first.

It is a simple read yoru way through it, no choice options or anything like that but to me that didn't really matter, that story touched me in such a way that as I said made me have tears in my eyes, while I can not recommend this game to anyone that is more into being active and doing things in what you do rasther than just read, I can recommend it to anyone that has see's a value in the beautifulness of a good story or has been touched emotionally by games or things in the past.

My heart is broken. It just makes you think off all the pain people like this have. But it really gives you new perspective on it and that's why I liked this so much, even through all the tears.

Narcissu 1st & 2nd is a Japanese visual novel developed by stage-nana and written originally in Japanese by Tomo Kataoka. This VN tells the story about the residence of 7th floor Setsumi Sakura and her experience during the last moment of her life.

This game includes both the Narcissu 1st & Narcissu 2nd. 2nd being the prequel and 1st is the main story of Setsumi.
The 2nd tells the story of Himeko Sunohara as her life take a 180 degree turn when she was diagnosed with a diseased that can't be cured, thus she's moved to the 7th floor. Himeko used to work as helper in 7th floor so she kinda used to the situation, but then it all changes when she met Setsumi.

Narcissu 1st set appx. 6-7 years after 2nd. The story is focused on the anonymous Protagonist (just think of him as us) who is terminally ill & Setsumi as both of them realizes their feeling of not wanting to die in the hospital or at home with their respective families. The two of them begin a long journey accross Japan until they find that place...
NARCISSU

I have completed the game 2 years ago and when I found this game on Steam Greenlight, I immediately vote it up as I think this COULD BE first step of introducing the Visual Novel medium to the West. Currently the game is in Early Access but don't let that bother you because the story itself is completed & translated. I'm also part of the Closed Beta tester and I could say that Sekai Project did a good job of making the game engine compatible with Steamwork.

Definitely a must have if you are an avid VN player or you are interested in this medium, even after 2 years of finishing this, I still get dem feels moment :') a Masterpiece indeed!

These VNs are great for beginners, and veterns of the genre shouldn't shy away from them either. The music and artwork fit splendidly with the narrative of the story. The 1st one I prefer over the 2nd, but this is not a nock on the 2nd. The feels are real, have your tissues ready. The text doesnt break immersion. The plot is mind numbly interesting. But neither is perfect. Both are kinetic novels (No choices) and Im not a huge fan of this. Also, the 2nd provides good backstory to the 1st, but the suspense and mystery are totally killed by the knowledge of the 1st. If you liked these, check out ChuSingura 46+1.

Setsumi's personality is similar to how I usually behave .. For those people who say commiting suicide is a selfish act and want to always make people like Setsumi happy , you will comprehend why their broken hearts can't be resolved with comfort or ... affection when you play this vn . Himeko acts in a cruel way to get people affectionate towards her away from her .. too .. but she suffered more than the people around her with having to bear the guilt doing that , to not be a nuisance .. at least this vn teaches an individual to be grateful about whenever if you are depressed to the point where you would want to commit suicide and has low confidence with self's fate , blaming god up there .. you may be in a normally healthy state compared to these two fictional characters who didn't deserve the miserable fate they were given, and or that somebody in reality already has had a fate similar with either of these two characters ..
