Let's skip past the howdy-doos and the pretentious intros. I really like this game. It's unapogetically generic, addictive, and smartly-designed. Major Mayhem is a game that truly feels like it was focus-tested for maximum enjoyment. When it comes to games, you'll sometimes read descriptions like "It's not for everyone". This game, is for everyone. Whether you're the type that likes to unlock stuff and get cash, somebody who just wants to shoot and/or blow stuff up, or even a person who shoots for the high-scores, Major Mayhem is the game for you.

Ehh...I feel dirty all of a sudden. These days Android/IOS can be regarded as a legitimate gaming platform, but I'm an old codger and can't grasp/don't like cell-phone games. So to recommend something as shameless as Major Mayhem, it really makes me pause, reflect upon my past, wander aimlessly through a desert, that sort of thing. So I'm going to break down what I like about this game.

-Mission objectives are smartly-designed. There's always an incentive to change weapons, replay stages, and collect cash. This game knows exactly which elements of your brain to massage, so you're compelled to keep playing.
-Different weapons have different scoring strategies. With a shotgun you'll want to aim for enemies that crowd together. Sniper rifles can pierce objects, and there are bonus points for killing enemies behind cover. If you want to unlock everything you're going to try each weapon, thus you'll devise your own personal best scoring weapon.
-Enemy corpses can be shot for bonus points.
-Mechanics are extremely solid. When it comes to gun games, there's nothing more frustrating than poor mechanics. When I aim at an enemy's forehead, I don't want the bullet to fly into their arm, and I want appropriate feedback. While the enemies in this game resemble toys more than human beings, they still react properly to every shot. The sound-direction and visual feedback is on-point as well. Altogether it's pretty satisfying.
-Nice amount of depth to the scoring system. High scores aren't achieved just by shooting everyone. Everything from maintaining a combo, to using an item at the right moment, to getting those trick shot bonuses, are essential tactics.

When a company name-drops Metal Slug and Time Crisis I get this "Whoa...really?" look on my face. I expect their game to deliver something of comparable quality. While I won't say Major Mayhem hits those highs, it gets so much right that I gotta give respect.

Well worth my time and possibly yours.

At first I thought that this would be stupid, and I'd just wait for the cards to drop. Then I couldn't stop playing.

A great relaxing game, with easy controls and (deliberately) light story - you are a great American soldier, who gets an order to kill tons of bad guys to save the planet, his girlfriend and the president's chihuahuas. Also great for achievement hunters, with a ton of achievements (including internal achievements). A great buy on that price!

It's a port from android or apple or somewhere I'm told though never played it except here on PC Steam. It does feel like a phone/tablet game but it does port to the PC well.

It's an easy game perfect for mindless fun. Can't play it for long stretches at a time but it is a good game to fall back to for low stress unwinding.

One of the most fun mobile games besides Angry Birds. A shooter on the rails type of game. Good to play in short bursts with tons of objectives, and achievements to complete. You play as a Rambo type character who takes it to the bad guys in order to rescue your girlfriend. So many Weapons, Clothes, and supplies to outfit Major Mayhem with to aid you in your quest. Many different modes and level to play.

Best rail shooter for PC yet.
This review is based mostly on my play time with the Shiny Loot (DRM-free + Steam key) version. So, my Steam stats don't reflect my actual play time with Major Mayhem.

PROS:
+ FUN!
+ Easy to pick up, difficult to master.
+ Tons of unlockables.
+ Cheap at only $5 (USD). FREE for iOS, Android, Windows phones, and Kindle Fire.
+ LOW hardware requirements.
+ Cross-platform; Windows/Mac/Linux compatible.
+ Fun graphics are easy on the eyes and not intimidating to casual players.

CONS:
- No online multiplayer, yet.
- "Hardcore" gamers may be put off by Major Mayhem's 'accessibility'.

I was going to recommend this in a heartbeat. I really was. It's a very simple game, quite entertaining and the ability to allow me to play with one hand and eat an ice-cream at the same time is always great!

BUT!

The game screwed up in last chapter (3 in total). It was unfair, buggy and the difficulty scaling was way off!

For those who don't know, this is a "Third-Person-ish" rail-shooter that was definately ported from mobile devices (it even has the damn facebook and twitter page links. The buttons and overall UI layout also looks VERY mobile device influenced which means, of course... "obvious mobile port").

Anyways, so... first chapter! The woods, full rambo style fun while shooting ninjas (yes, ninjas...). It's quite fun and responsive. Animations are fluid and nothing feels cheap. No difficulty spikes. Pretty much perfect.

Then, metropolis! In the city, you fight Mr. Smith and it's clones alongisde the riot-shielders from Call of Duty. Nothing bad at all. Everything feels fair and square. No difficulty spikes, no problems. Game's responsive as usual.

Final chapter: Arab Desert. You will fight waves and more waves of... (yeah you guessed it) AND ALSO! Mummies!

"Huh?"

Yep... and guess what? It's not ♥♥♥♥ing fair! After reaching the last chapter I got the bazooka! And it takes over 6 mother♥♥♥♥ing shots to kill a single mummy!

"Well, doesn't sound too bad..."

Wait... it doesn't? Oh right I forgot! They throw 2-3 at the same ♥♥♥♥ing time! And also a couple of dudes in the background throwing shurikens, swords or plain shooting their guns at me!
Did I forget to mention that the mummies can shoot green lasers out of their ♥♥♥♥ing eyes?! Yeah...

But I survived "most of it". I died a lot! The use of super powers (which you need to go back to the menu to buy with coins that you earn VERY slowly) is imperative beyond belief!
And after restarting some ♥♥♥♥-poorly designed sections what happens?

Rub some salt on the wound because "Holy-♥♥♥♥"! The game starts bugging out! Enemies don't appear at all, so you wait.

And wait...

And wait...

And you restart. And they appear. And out of nowhere you just die...

I hope this is exclusively my issue. And if it is... fine. But I can't let it slide on my behalf for obvious reasons.

So the campaign was out of the window! Are there more modes?

Yep. 3 to be exact. All repeat the same thing but with minor changes. Time attack, survival, blah blah blah.

All play exactly the same. In the same levels. Level with the same layout as the campaign. Same scripted sections as well! No variation. The game becomes boring rather fast even though the achievements and the in-game level-up system DEMAND lots of time and effort to get maximum rank and 100% the achievements.

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It really is.
At least you get cards :P

Anyways, I won't deny the fact that, while playing the first 2 chapters, I had lots of fun, even though it started to wear off on me after a while due to it's repetitiveness in both gameplay, enemy variety, levels and level layout.

The game's 4,99€ as well so... not much is being asked. Sadly... for 4,99€ there's SO much better stuff to buy that this is just one of those games to buy when you have absolutely nothing to do or are in a break from studying or working. A 30 min session and after that you're probably dying of boredom.

After the issues I encountered I can say Major Mayhem doesn't deserve a blind recommendation from me, not at all. Only thanks to it's good 2 first chapters should you consider purchasing this. The 3rd is just a great mix of bugs, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, difficulty spikes and frustration.

5/10 If only steam has a yellow "Meh" option instead of the "yes/no". Get it on a sale if you really want it, and even then, you have better stuff to buy under 3€...

One of those games for phones. Phonies. Could be nice enough on one of those but feels too shallow for me on PC. Your guy, Major, runs vertically and stops whenever enemies start jumping behind rocks and huts etc. You are typically behind a cover and lose the cover while shooting. That's when you take hits. Damage. Ouch. Then you move on to a helicopter and get a rating of one star because you didn't shoot all of the enemies hats. I recommend this on phones if that was unclear.
