“This game is a perfect example of how much fun a game can and should, be, even when you completely suck at it.”
90/100 – IndiegameMagazine

“Having journeyed through hell several times in my life (once when working for a factory, another time visiting relatives and finally with the ex) this journey through hell turned out to be the most fun by far.”
4/5 – GameplayersReview

“99 Levels to Hell is a game that revels in its own difficulty. Bearing in mind that I described Demon’s Souls as “not that hard” when I reviewed it, this game is harder. Mostly because there isn’t anything you can stock up on to make the road ahead more bearable. No, until you get more characters (there are three to unlock, of which I acquired none), you’re stuck with The Magician’s shotgun and maybe some bombs.”
80/99 – Calm Down Tom

I picked this game up because it was cheap and I thought I could fly through the achievements. I wanted something to play that I could pick up and put down easily. Within the first 10 minutes of gameplay the game bugged out and unlocked every dungeon. To think anyone would actually spend 100 hours on this game is insane. Tonight I decided to work on that last acheivement(Spend 100 hours in the dungeon). No umbrellas and no elevators, just a solid run through all 99 levels to hell. I finished the game with about 4.9 million points and I went to leave through the exit and the game bugged out at the closing animation and didn't save my progress. Even at $0.99 during the summer sale, don't waste your money.

99 Levels to Hell is so much fun, hours and hours of challenge and I normally don't play platformers at all. I really like this game and there is no way around it.

Fairly fun but it really does look like something out of newgrounds.

I think I got this out of some bundle because otherwise it does not look like something I would normally buy.

Bad platforming, fairly fun shooting while platforming, but it really does look like it would fit in a flash game of the mid 2000s.

This game is nothing special. It's a somewhat simple platform shooter in which you run around killing monsters and looking for a key that opens the door to the next level, while also collecting loot in the form of gold, upgrades, or even special weapons and abilities. As the title says, there are 99 levels before reaching the final dungeon, Hell, in which you fight the devil itself. There's also boss fights every 10 levels, and each "pack" of 10 levels is an unique dungeon with its own theme.

The soundtrack is somewhat good, keeping a nice atmosphere for the game. As for the story, there is one, but I couldn't get much of it since it requires you to find the books hidden in each dungeon, which, when activated, narrated the story with a whispering voice that was quite hard to hear, and there's no subtitles at all.

Even then, I found it somewhat enjoyable. I wouldn't say I really recommend it, but I can't say it's a bad game.

...ALA ya me he acabao el juego!!!

99 Levels To Hell se parece demasiado a Spelunky.

This game is seriously just horrible. You wonder "hey a rogue-like dungeon crawler side-scroller based on hell, that sounds awesome!" Let me tell you this game is not what it seems like. They shouldn't even be allowed to advertise this as a rogue-like game. This game is like Spelunky's mentally challenged cousin. Lets go through the pros and cons.

PROS:
- Its only 5 dollars.

Alright moving on to the cons.

CONS:
- Lack of music. Through out the levels all you get is "eerie" ambience sounds. No real music. When you're running out of time or fighting bosses, you get really cool metal music. But that's the only time you get cool music.

- Enemies. They look like they were done in MS paint by a 5 year old.

- Lack of variety. This is NOT a rogue-like game. You'll notice you're in the same exact rooms over and over again. Even in later levels, its the same exact room just looks different. You'd swear there's only like 10 unique rooms, and out of 100 total rooms? That's just sad.

- Not many items. Seriously, I've only collected maybe like 5 items total from all the time I've spent playing. All you come across in abundance is gold, but you'll be lucky to even afford something as small as a heart from the shops. You get barely around 10 to 20 pieces of gold per room, but all the items in the shop are like 500 and 600. You're only hope is to gamble it and try to get more gold from it. There are simply not enough items in this game to make it seem fun and refreshing with each play through, let alone on your first play through.

- Bosses are a joke. Seriously, usually the bosses just move from side to side summoning enemies. They literally don't attack half the time. I'm stuck on the level 60 boss right now. Why? All the boss does is fly from left to right but it summons so many enemies you can't even hit the boss. There's like 30 flying little robots on the room and still spawning, it becomes impossible to hit the boss let alone survive.

- Only 2 types of enemies every 10 levels. Yeah, and they're usually just reskins of older enemies. Just like the level layouts. They don't do sh*t either, they usually just fly around in random patterns and, well, thats it.

- Hit boxes are garbage. You get hit whenever your character feels like getting hit.

- Developers seem to have abandoned this game. Same goes for the community. Nobody is really playing this nor talking about it in the discussions anymore. I can't imagine the developers are still polishing this up anyways...

Seriously, save yourself 5 dollars and go get some food or something. This game sucks...

99 Levels To Hell is one of those games that you just can't stop playing. You'll tell yourself "one more time" and before you know it your clock says 4am! Each time you descend into Hell, you'll find that you're doing it with a new item loadout, and that's part of its charm. Will you get the machine gun? Ice Rod? Bubble gun? Symbol Heart? Crystal Skull? You never know!

This is by far one of the best platformers I've played in a while and I would recommend it to anyone that's looking for a game with variety, challenge, badass music, interesting story, pixelated gore, and chaos! Also, for $4.99, you can't go wrong! I've long since gotten my monies worth out of this game and I still play it. Did I mention the badass music?

Easily give this game a 9.5/10!

(NB: I have played this game to completion in those 4 hours. No use of walkthroughs or prior knowledge. I am if anything below average at this genre of game. Draw your own conclusions.)

Hard call, this one. $5 is not a large asking price; you're getting better value for money than the quarter of a movie or most-of-a-hamburger said cash would otherwise afford you, and this game Is pretty enjoyable for the first hour or so.

Problem is, It's simply not a lot of fun after that point. You will very swiftly notice yourself running through the same room patterns again and again, not looking for new weapons after the first area because throwing away all the upgrades you've accrued thus far is a ridiculous waste and likely to get you killed. Soundtrack isn't exactly memorable, what passes for a "story" is a poorly conceived joke with no bearing on the game itself relayed in doggrel verse that's almost painful to listen to, graphics just feel amateurish...

The core ideas are fun enough that you probably won't feel cheated purchasing this. But do so only if desperate; there are better games here with more potential costing just as much or less. "Spelunky" rings a bell: If you haven't already purchased that one, there's no reason to buy this in preference.

99 Levels to Hell really does explain this game. There are 99 levels and boy...is it hell...I found myself being extremly annoyed with the controls of this game from the get go. Platformer where you aim with a second analog stick? Took me a while to get a hang of it.

There is zero variety here either, the same enemies, the same weapons and items, all wearing very thin by the time you have played for over an hour.

The bosses are even worse, they litterally just stand there and do nothing.

I cannot recommend 99 Levels to Hell, to anyone.

99 Levels to Hell is a 2D randomly generated dual stick platformer. Left stick moves you, right stick is aim. You can of course mouse aim and use the keyboards. There is a jump button, a bomb button, a shoot button and an item use button. Everything is mapped to the shoulder buttons. Even with a controller, you still need to use a mouse for the menu.

You go through randomly generated levels killing monsters, collecting gold and find a key that will unlock a door to the next level. It is a good fun little game that I feel like I've played before. The game has charm and a sense of humor, coupled with enough red blood to literally paint every surface in the game. You'll find shop keepers along the way... some that weren't even supposed to be here today, that you can buy stuff from.

Ever play Spelunky? This is a Spelunky clone right down to the tutorial level with ghosts that will chase you if you take too long to complete each level. There are games that feel like other games. This is a clone if not stolen code. Is that a bad thing? No. Is this better than Spelunky? Eh yes at no. Sadly a game trying to be too much like Spelunky will never have a crown as grand as Spelunky, but this is still a fun little game. 99 Levels feels less deadly. There is no fall damage, there are no random spike traps on the floor or any enemies that pop out of objects when you open them with your gun.

99 Levels has casinos, and a wider color pallet with dark tones and well bright red blood. It is a good diversity here. It has treasure levels too. I think these are all steps in the right direction. Just not far enough. There is a chance here to expand upon things.

There is no carry function to pick things up and throw them such as princesses, rocks and keys. When you get a key, you just get it, you don't carry it and throw it. There seems to be no rope climb feature to throw grappling hooks and climb up. There are ladders though, and you don't climb ladders so much as float up them freely. While there are bomb walls, and shootable dirt walls, there are no webs, water or anything interesting like that. It just seems less than Spelunky. Less features, less controls, less price.

This game is a good start for any developer, but if you already have Spelunky, you probably don't need 99 Levels to Hell.

"WELCOME TO THE 99 LEVELS TO HELL",ok got that out of my system and now on with the review. This is one game i was looking forward to when it was first announced and i must say that having play'd the final version i am not one bit dissapointed with the end product.
Ok graphics wise this game is really competent at what it set's out to do and the graphics style really does suit the game, the music is both dark and at times (especially when the ghosts appear) has a sudden urgency to it,the dialouge in game is also really good (what there is of it) and helps to give you some clue as to what is going on and the game play mechanics in game all really work well and if you die it wont be due to the game but your lack of either time playing the game (learning attack patterns and how the different weapons and power ups work) or concentration whilst playing (i know happened to me on one of the boss levels,my wife shouted "your foods ready" i looked away and said "Ok i'm coming in a moment" then i died ARRRRGGGHHHHH).
As you progress through the game you will learn what the various enemies do and how they attack (some on sight will hunt you down and others will float about whilst firing at you and yet others will get near you and then "BOOM" explode ECT) and as you watch and learn so you will get better at the game and not die so often, this is never more the case than when fighting against a level boss.
Some are rather easy and predictable and others are rather devious and not so predictable and yet when fighting against others the sheer number of on screen allies the boss has and can summon can be nothing short of an annoyance (trust me in a good "I HAVE TO BEAT THIS DAMN BOSS" sort of way) and also prove to (in some cases) be to much to deal with at times unless your tooled up.
Now this brings me to POWER UPS and the different character classes, there is 4 character classes to choose from which range from the "MAJOR" to the "DRAGON" with all the characters offering different weapons and therefore a choice of which to take into the game when you play (some are better suited to certain levels as the sniper gun fires one bullet at a time and the machine gun fires multiple times but seems to lack as much of a kick),all the characters bar the first one have to be found and set free from the cages they are in (with a bomb if you have one-if not find one as the more characters you have the easier the game will be).
Now on to power ups, they range from the usefull to the down right bizarre,my favorite power up is the (what i call) "DEMON UMBRELLA" this little demonic umbrella takes you from where you are right to the end of level boss and this is ok if your tooled up but not if your "NOT",having said that it gives you ample oppurtunity to test out the boss and learn a little of their attack patterns and how to deal with them (helped me on one occasion with an ♥♥♥ of a boss "DAMN YOU,YOU FLOATING EYE THINGY"),but by jumping like this you do stand a chance of missing out on leveling up your character and also not finding the elusive other characters.
The other power ups range from a torch (which helps in the dark-pretty useless really on most levels),fireball that floats around your character and fires out a fire ball every time you shoot your gun,ice ball which preety much does the same as the fire ball except its ice instead, the bubble gun which surrounds the enemy in a bubble and sends them skyward, the poisen arrow gun (which does exactally what it says on the tin),weapon strength power ups which power up the strength of your weapon (OMG I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT WAS OBVIOUS DUH) to other usefull and often weird and strange power ups.
When you do beat an end of level boss (comes around the 9th level mark of each seperate level) you will not have to start the game right from the begining like you do if you die before reaching and defeating said boss, thats why when you fight a boss your praying that you beat them so you dont have to start that level to get right back up to the boss again (thats where the "DEMON UMBRELLA" comes in handy),but defeating a boss feels just how it should ("HA HA HA HA HA i beat you,you mother...................." less of that language kids may be present) and gives you a sense of acheivement and the knowledge that your getting just that little bit better at the game.
So in closing i reccomend this game to anyone out for a good, challenging game that will test both your skills as a gamer and your patience as a gamer also ("AAAARRRRRGGGHHHH you bloody game, your cheating me i beat that boss WWWAAAHHH wheres my dummy") and at the price its at why are you waiting and if you do buy the game "WELCOME TO HELL BBUUWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"
