Reviews

“One Finger Death Punch is an enormously generous and exhilarating combat game - one whose capacity for expression and mastery is far broader than its simplistic appearance suggests.”
9/10 – Eurogamer

“One Finger Death Punch is a game that one must definitely play in order to understand and judge it. This is all about the feel, and there’s so much of it as you play it more and more.”
9/10 – Cheat Masters

“The game is an instant classic. There’s not a mark to be said against it. It excels in every possible way, challenging the best of us while still remaining pick-up-and-play enough that literally anyone could start in on it, and subsequently get hopelessly addicted.”

About This Game

Experience cinematic kung-fu battles in the fastest, most intense brawler the indie world has ever seen! With the unique 1:1 response system of One Finger Death Punch, players will feel the immediate feedback of every bone-crunching hit.

Pay tribute to the masters using five classic kung-fu styles mixed with additional weapons. Combine face-to-face combat with throwing weapons to recreate complex fight choreographies or just send bad guys flying through glass windows. Explore a world map with over 250 stages, 13 modes, and 3 difficulty levels. Unlock 21 different skills that can be combined in thousands of ways to assist you in your journey. Put your kung-fu to the ultimate test in the survival mode.

One Finger Death Punch is a game you can “feel”. The direct connection between your mouse and your character on the screen will be a new experience for many players. When you string together a long, complex string of kills, it feels like something “you” did rather than something the game let you do. When you play it you feel like you’re actually playing a Xiao Xiao stick animation video. We took inspiration from every kung-fu film we’ve seen. Every bit of effort was poured into delivering an easy to play game that was as addictive to play as Tetris.

Every Press Matters! DO NOT BUTTON MASH!

One of the biggest challenges we had while making the game is stopping the player from button mashing. When our friends play tested our game they’d instinctively button mash, they couldn’t help themselves. It must have been the many years of playing other brawlers that engraved it in their minds the notion of rapidly pressing buttons to kill your foes. The game’s designed in such a way that if you button mash, you die. Every press matters. Although playing the game should still be simple, you see a bad guy in front of you, you attack him, he dies. If you punch even once when there’s no enemy in front of you, you’re going to miss. If you miss, chances are you’re going to get hit. It’s a simple system but it’s ruthless to button mashers. We spent much time setting up visual and audio queues as well as many warnings trying to steer players away from their natural button mashing tendencies.

This game is great. You should give it a chance. It's cheap and fun. It was actually a little harder than you would think at first. You get lost in the combat like it's a little movie and it can throw off your timing where you either hit the button too much or not fast enough. It's worth playing.

One of the most satisfying games I've ever played.

I really enjoyed:
How easy this game is to pick up and hard to master.
The tight and responsive controls.
How everytime you fail it is your fault, but it doesn't feel down putting. Rather I felt compelled to best myself.
The hectic, yet easy to follow combat.

My only gripe, which is minor, is that the UI isn't really optimized for PC. But that's it, the rest it fantastic.

Man this game is awesome.

This semi-casual, highly addicting, action packed, two button, death punch game will always bring you back.
It is one of the best indie games I have ever played, and I enjoyed it a lot. (even when the bosses got tough)

Survival mode is also a good way to play and compare your skills with your friends.

I don't write reviews very often, but every now and then i find a game so good that i just have to give it my thumbs up. This game is listed as a cheap $4.99 game but it should have been listed at at least $14.99. The game is very high in quality for a budget game. The graphics (while simple) are very good, so is the layout, music, and quality of game play. The game play is very addictive. You use but two buttons to play this game, it's very easy to learn, but has a surprising amount of depth as you go further into the game.

Easy to learn, enough depth and fun to make it thoroughly addictive. If you like fighting games, this one is a must have for your library. At the risk of seeming like a fanboy, i give this game a 10 out 10.

Overview

One Finger Death Punch is a 2D fighting game by Silver Dollar games, originally being released for the XBOX360 in 2013 before making its way to the PC.

One Finger Death Punch puts the player against rounds of enemies called "Mob Rounds" in game. The rounds differ in the size of waves, difficulty of enemies and various other premises, such as hit combos, weapon drops, changeable abilities, specialized rounds and boss battles. Fighting can be done with a simple two button configuration, one button corresponding left and the other to the right. Your mission is to defeat all the enemies before your health is depleted. You must hit the buttons in sequence to avoid taking damage. Each time you miss a button, or push the wrong one, the enemy will hit you.

Despite only needing two buttons, , One Finger Death Punch supports both keyboard/mouse or controllers depending on your preference.

The game has two modes: the main story and survival mode. The main campaign consists of ever-increasing rounds of enemies and, on occasion, different requirements depending on the level. Some examples of those requirements include: light sword battles, timed battles, boss fights, lightening rounds and more. Survival mode is just that: survive. The waves never stop until you're eventually defeated. Survival is broken up into three sub-categories: Regular, Blind and "No Luca No". The regular mode plays much like the main campaign, blind removes the hit indicators on the bottom of all enemies except those that have unique combos and "No Luca No" is regular, but you must swat away a black cat named "Luca" from blocking your screen. In all three modes, the speed at which the enemies come slowly increases as time goes by. There are also three difficulty modes both in story mode and in survival mode; student, master and grandmaster.

As you traverse the main campaign, you'll unlock useful abilities, such as the ability to slow down enemies, earn health, extend the use of weapons...etc. You may select any three abilities at any given time and you can switch them before each level if you so desire. There is no penalty for changing abilities.

One Finger Death Punch doesn't offer much more than that. It's a very straight forward game, but does the job well. It's simple in design, but offers quite a challenge for those looking to play on some of the harder difficulties. What I will say is that I'm not a huge fan of most fighting games, 2D or 3D, but I really loved this one. It feels very smooth, the combos, weaponry, and abilities fit seamlessly into what you're doing so there's not much need to stop and think about what to do next, which is good since there is very little time to do so. The game never felt like I lost due to cheap hits and could really tell when my skills were improving and that was the most enjoyable part for me.

Pros

  • Visuals (both combat & background) are well done.
  • Combat movement is fluid and precise, even though you're fighting a bunch of stick figures.
  • Controller support. I always played with one and it always worked fine. I used an XBOX & Logitech controller.
  • Adjustable abilities to cater towards personal play styles.

Cons

  • Repetitive - The game can feel a bit "samey" after longer playthroughs, both in combat and in level design.
  • Achievements - There are a ton and they are extremely grind heavy and difficult for those who hunt achievements.

Overall, One Finger Death Punch is a great title. I enjoyed all the stick-on-stick violence and found it a nice game to blow off some steam or just to lose myself in for a little while. If you like 2D fighters, stick figures, or both, I recommend checking it out. It's a blast.

I havn't played much, to be brutally honest
However...

My Logitech Hyperion Fury mouse promised me about 40-50,000 clicks before I would notice any effect on its quality. In the time I have spent on this game already, I would have easily surpassed that amount. I noticed something

I noticed that nothing had happened

This game made me realise that sometimes things dont live up to our expectations. Sometimes they surpass them.
Thats what this game did

God, this has to be one of my favorite games of all-time. It's just so much fun, more than what you might think. Survival is just so much fun, going from 500 to 1500 average every game is so cool, watching your progress. And, this game is more than button mashing. It's all about accuracy, whilst being fast enough. I couldn't recommend this game more.

Do you want to know what's impossible? This game. It started out quite addictive and fun, but along the way things got harder. It made me realise I don't really have superhuman reflexes.

Positives:
+ broke two of my mice
+ better than Clicker Heroes

Negative:
- It is literally impossible to get all the achievements.

If you can even reach a score of 4000 legitimately in survival mode, you're not human anymore - enemies hit you before you even see them appear on your screen.

If you want a game to play so you can blame yourself, then get this game.

Amazing game, I have had so much fun.

Pros
- Light on system so slow computers still can play easily.
- Easy learning curve.
- I'm not sure how to use it, but it seems to have a recording accomadation to make easy recordings.
- CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP
this game is so cheap it's ridiculous. Think of things this way, a candy bar at the store cost $1. This game is worth 5 candy bars in price. However, I can eat five candy bars in about 4 hours. This game can, and will last many more.

Cons
- After a couple straight hours of play you get bored, but only for a little while. Come back in like 1 hour and it regains its value.

DEFINATLY worth $5. Honestly, this game is worth $10, maybe $15 (but no higher). At any rate, buy this game. But remember, these are stick figure moves, do not try in real life, you will injure yourself and you will not single handedly destroy 300 of your enemies.

Stupidly satisfying. Even though you're only pressing two buttons, you feel like a ninja while playing this. I don't know how they fit this much depth into a two-button game, but somehow you actually find yourself improving drastically over time.

It's awesome, and makes you feel awesome.

9.8/10 - The Original and the Best 2 Button Combat Game!

I've played a few games similar to this, but none of them come close to the depth and gameplay of this title. For just $5 or less you can get an extremely addictive game that will keep you going for hours. There are 250 levels in the campaign alone in addition to several modes including survival. The campaign will run you at least 15 hours if not more so the overall value of this game is extremely high.

You are a Kung Fu master and through just 2 buttons you decimate your enemies with a variety of styles, weapons and objectives. Some of my favorite types of matches are light saber levels, timed destruction and mob levels!

The game really has the juice to keep you entertained and coming back for more. It's a title that instantly makes it to my favorites tab; I will continue to play and keep trucking towards 100%. Finally, I love the "Mastery" section which shows you the total percent complete you are with the game; an hour will give you around 3-5% total mastery.

Worth the full $5! Amazing gameplay and an extremely lengthy campaign!

Surprisingly addictive.

Don't let the "simple" graphics and clunky interface fool you. This game might look like your average tablet game at first, but the price-tag and amount of content more than justifies the 98% overwhelmingly positive rating this game has gotten since its release in 2014.

The controls are simple, try to counter the enemies rushing in from the right and left side by using the right and left mouse buttons to hit them at their respective sides.
At this point you might ask, "What? Just two buttons? That sounds lame dude!". You're right, that actually sounds pretty lame.

Luckily it only sounds lame.

The game does a decent job at hyping up fights with flashy effects and dramatic music, and there's enough enemy variety to make each level engaging and intense.

Don't forget that this can pretty much run on any kind of potato computer, I think.

Thanks to Lokigabe for recommending and gifting this game to me.
