Reviews

“One Finger Death Punch is an enormously generous and exhilarating combat game - one whose capacity for expression and mastery is far broader than its simplistic appearance suggests.”
9/10 – Eurogamer

“One Finger Death Punch is a game that one must definitely play in order to understand and judge it. This is all about the feel, and there’s so much of it as you play it more and more.”
9/10 – Cheat Masters

“The game is an instant classic. There’s not a mark to be said against it. It excels in every possible way, challenging the best of us while still remaining pick-up-and-play enough that literally anyone could start in on it, and subsequently get hopelessly addicted.”
5/5 – the XBLIG

About This Game

Experience cinematic kung-fu battles in the fastest, most intense brawler the indie world has ever seen! With the unique 1:1 response system of One Finger Death Punch, players will feel the immediate feedback of every bone-crunching hit.

Pay tribute to the masters using five classic kung-fu styles mixed with additional weapons. Combine face-to-face combat with throwing weapons to recreate complex fight choreographies or just send bad guys flying through glass windows. Explore a world map with over 250 stages, 13 modes, and 3 difficulty levels. Unlock 21 different skills that can be combined in thousands of ways to assist you in your journey. Put your kung-fu to the ultimate test in the survival mode.

One Finger Death Punch is a game you can “feel”. The direct connection between your mouse and your character on the screen will be a new experience for many players. When you string together a long, complex string of kills, it feels like something “you” did rather than something the game let you do. When you play it you feel like you’re actually playing a Xiao Xiao stick animation video. We took inspiration from every kung-fu film we’ve seen. Every bit of effort was poured into delivering an easy to play game that was as addictive to play as Tetris.

Every Press Matters! DO NOT BUTTON MASH!

One of the biggest challenges we had while making the game is stopping the player from button mashing. When our friends play tested our game they’d instinctively button mash, they couldn’t help themselves. It must have been the many years of playing other brawlers that engraved it in their minds the notion of rapidly pressing buttons to kill your foes. The game’s designed in such a way that if you button mash, you die. Every press matters. Although playing the game should still be simple, you see a bad guy in front of you, you attack him, he dies. If you punch even once when there’s no enemy in front of you, you’re going to miss. If you miss, chances are you’re going to get hit. It’s a simple system but it’s ruthless to button mashers. We spent much time setting up visual and audio queues as well as many warnings trying to steer players away from their natural button mashing tendencies.

Simply Hilarious! That game is so good that it can't be explained in simple words! It is just amazingly fun to play and sooo time consuming...I wish there would be more such games out there and more great ideas from the developers of One Finger Death Punch! :)

Man, this game is seriously fun. Each level is short, only a couple/few minutes each, but there are tons of levels and dozens of level types to keep things interesting. This game is exactly what I always imagined it would be like if Xiao Xiao was a game but with awesome backgrounds and effects. I don't even want to give examples so you can discover them for yourself, but here's some pros and cons:

Pros
- Simple mechanics yet amazingly varied gameplay for literally using nothing but 2 mouse buttons (doesn't even matter where the mouse is).
- Cool stick figure dude animations, the style is amazing
- Said dude pulls off what feels like hundreds of different badass kung fu moves
- Several different weapons, both melee and thrown
- Crazy cool random super-moves that slow down the fight so you can enjoy the carnage
- Use the backgrounds to beat down your opponents
- Character upgrades by way of skills/moves awarded for beating certain levels
- Good pacing and difficulty curve
- Funny and/or interesting little messages from the devs after each level
- Flawlessly executed, everything is balanced and mixed just right to make things ridiculously fun.

Cons
- It is a little weird not having an exit button, meh... close it like you close any Windows program.
- Voiceover is trying so hard to be 70's kung fu style that it comes off as slightly racist to me
- Literally nothing else.

Perfect for when you have 5 minutes or 5 hours! It's on Summer Sale! Get this!

I'm gonna be completely honest here.
This is one of the best, most fun, and most satisfying games I have ever played.

As you can imagine, One Finger Death Punch consists of a stickman, controlled by you, that beats up, stabs, impales, explodes, launches, and maims other stickmen left and right.

Without further ado, I'll list off some of the best aspects of the game:

Coolness Factor
This game is cool. There. I said it.
You know those games that look incredibly cool when you see that guy playing it, or one of your friends playing it, and you think "wow, that's really cool!" This is one of those games.
The response time this game requires of you is incredible, and probably 95% of it is played directly off reflexes. You can perfectly pull off a light-speed fist fight with someone and have no idea how you did it afterward.

It's Chaotic
This game is INCREDIBLY chaotic.
There's so much happening on the screen at the same time it can get difficult to see what's going on.
However, it's never too much to make you go "Damn, I can't see a thing on the freakin' screen!"
You will get random effects when you kill people. Eyeballs will fly, ribs will crack, people will go flying only to be impaled by their own weapons as they fall, and other incredible deaths, all in slow-motion.
But you know what? It all fits perfectly with the gameplay. It's not disctracting from your main goal.

Satisfaction
This game is so satisfying.
One Finger Death punch is a game you can play for hours on end because it's just so fun to play.
I cannot even describe to you how satisfying it is to finish a level after defeating 150 enemies. You feel like a god. You just want to play more. It's so perfect.

I'm sure there are a million more pros to this game I could name off, but you'd have to see them for yourself by playing the game. It's only Five Dollars (Canadian), and it's even less when it goes on sale.

This is a definite recommendation for anyone; casual or intense gamer.

Probably the most stylish 2-button video game I've ever played. Truly feels like a rush to play and it's highly addictive and super challenging when it picks up steam but it has its downfalls as well:

- Not 100% responsive. Occassionally, your mouse presses are ignored (specially when the slow-mo kicks in) and lead to getting hit.
- No Restart stage keyboard shortcut you have to use the mouse (which is quite irritating)
- The developers haven't even bothered themselves to add an Exit to windows button to any of the menus
- By playing this game you increase the chance of ****ing up your mouse buttons by at least 400%

If One finger Death punch wasn't so damn fun and perfect for small doses of time I would have had a hard time recommending it but it definitely is. Has a ton of stages to play through and master as well as some perks to buy and medals to earn.

Get it.

[EDIT] So I've been playing this game for a few more hours and I can definitely say that it has technical bugs. Every few rounds, I get a framerate hiccup just enough so that my mouse presses aren't registered for around 1 sec.
Also, the crap restart button you need to press with the mouse every time to restart the level isn't even available in some of the challenge levels. You actually have to back out into the world map and restart the level from there.

So far, I can definitely call these guys one of the laziest developers I've encountered. The game mechanics are fine and fun but everything built around them is more or less a trainwreck.

Still would recommend it on a sale though.

YES YES YES !!!!

This game is so awesome. It's really easy to play but really hard to master.

I got the DRM free version of the game a while back with some bundle and I allways play it while I have to wait for something to load, then when the Steam version came out the developers gifted me a copy.

It's basically a stick men fiht game where you are at the center of the screen and mobs are coming at you from both sides and you have to fight them using only the left and the right mouse buttons ... I have beaten everything possible in this game and most of the levels in the mobile version for Android (which is more grindy and with microtransactions as any free mobile game, check it out it's the same meta just endless)

It's amaizing, addictive and very, very clever game.

I would recommend it to anyone any time.
