Reviews

“One Finger Death Punch is an enormously generous and exhilarating combat game - one whose capacity for expression and mastery is far broader than its simplistic appearance suggests.”
9/10 – Eurogamer

“One Finger Death Punch is a game that one must definitely play in order to understand and judge it. This is all about the feel, and there’s so much of it as you play it more and more.”
9/10 – Cheat Masters

“The game is an instant classic. There’s not a mark to be said against it. It excels in every possible way, challenging the best of us while still remaining pick-up-and-play enough that literally anyone could start in on it, and subsequently get hopelessly addicted.”

About This Game

Experience cinematic kung-fu battles in the fastest, most intense brawler the indie world has ever seen! With the unique 1:1 response system of One Finger Death Punch, players will feel the immediate feedback of every bone-crunching hit.

Pay tribute to the masters using five classic kung-fu styles mixed with additional weapons. Combine face-to-face combat with throwing weapons to recreate complex fight choreographies or just send bad guys flying through glass windows. Explore a world map with over 250 stages, 13 modes, and 3 difficulty levels. Unlock 21 different skills that can be combined in thousands of ways to assist you in your journey. Put your kung-fu to the ultimate test in the survival mode.

One Finger Death Punch is a game you can “feel”. The direct connection between your mouse and your character on the screen will be a new experience for many players. When you string together a long, complex string of kills, it feels like something “you” did rather than something the game let you do. When you play it you feel like you’re actually playing a Xiao Xiao stick animation video. We took inspiration from every kung-fu film we’ve seen. Every bit of effort was poured into delivering an easy to play game that was as addictive to play as Tetris.

Every Press Matters! DO NOT BUTTON MASH!

One of the biggest challenges we had while making the game is stopping the player from button mashing. When our friends play tested our game they’d instinctively button mash, they couldn’t help themselves. It must have been the many years of playing other brawlers that engraved it in their minds the notion of rapidly pressing buttons to kill your foes. The game’s designed in such a way that if you button mash, you die. Every press matters. Although playing the game should still be simple, you see a bad guy in front of you, you attack him, he dies. If you punch even once when there’s no enemy in front of you, you’re going to miss. If you miss, chances are you’re going to get hit. It’s a simple system but it’s ruthless to button mashers. We spent much time setting up visual and audio queues as well as many warnings trying to steer players away from their natural button mashing tendencies.

Ok, this game is just plain fun. It's a brawler, boiled down to it's most basic parts. It only has two buttons, but, they still manage to make the game challenging nonetheless, and they do so fairly. There are no tricks or gotchas to make you throw your mouse after when you're done.

One Finger Death Punch seems like a quick and dirty flash game that should be fun for about 10 min and be over in 20 min.

But One Finger Death Punch is actually more than that. It's one simple idea, that has been polished, extended and implemented with infinite care, until the devs created a fantastic gameplay experience.

First of all, instead of a simple "one size fits all" approach, the game adapts to you : the better the play, the faster it goes, if you struggle, the game will slow down. That will help you learn the game at the beginning, but also will keep it challenging all the time, as it will get harder as you get better. That's how the game manages to keep "in the zone", in that transe-like pleasureable state where you seem to be able to defeat all problems.
Second, to keep it interesting for the long term, the game tries to vary the level goals and gameplays. Even though you're still only using 2 buttons, the devs found many ways to make it feel different : fast levels with a very good weapons, levels with reduced visibility, bosses levels, etc...Moreover, you can also select your level on the huge map, which allow you to avoid the stuff you don't like, and focus on the things you do like.

At every step of the way, you can see that the devs polished the experience to make it as good as possible, for as many people as possible. Players who just want to relax will like to get in the zone and enjoy the cartoon violence, while people looking for challenges will have tons of hidden stuff to find, highscores to beat, and crazy new challenges to discover.

This game is an absolute gem, with such simple graphics and game-play its amazing how fun and satisfying it is to play. Pardon the cliché, its one of those games which is extremely simple to learn but difficult to master. The difficulty progression is (mostly) very well balanced and keeps the player challenged to improve their skills. Its the kind of game you want to play when you have a few minutes spare; but end up playing for an hour, "just one more turn, one more level"... And when you do pass that difficult stage, you feel you just have to replay it to get that perfect run. 8/10

This was a huge suprise to me, but this game is a ton of fun to play. It is exremely satisfying to play and to do well on, as each hit has a very satisfying feel to it. Even though you are a stick figure fighting off other stick figures, you can't help but feel like a little bit of a ninja master after doing a perfect run through of a mission. In this way, it has a good deal of replayability as you will want to make perfect your score on every level. This game is one of the best examples of how simple mechanics do not equal a simple, basic experience. It is anything but - it makes use of its simplicity so well you will quickly forget it only has two buttons for you to press...

넘치는 시간과 두 손가락만 있으면 충분히 즐길수 있다. 별거 아니겠거니 했다가 어느새 끝을 보고만 게임. 순발력이 좋으신분에게는 매우 쉬울수있습니다.

  • The game is nice, the animations are good but there's just too much going on in the backgroud. I prefer a minimalistic background to complement the characters on the screen.
  • The audio is decent, no 3D positional audio or anything.
  • Effects for combos, special moves etc. are underwhelming.
  • Wold map control should have arrow buttons support.
  • Wold map art design is like a childs art project.

Overall, I love the game. I can play it while having a coffee, or talking on Skype.
I also recommend it for mechanical keyboard lovers. Use your KBs not the mouse on game of course.

One Finger Death Punch is truly amazing. Why? Because it is just a Stickman-beat-em-up with two buttons that makes you feel like a total boss, punching and kicking your way through thousands of Stickdudes.

This game absolutely nails the feel of being a martial-arts-god with its feel for impact, rhythm and flow of the levels.
It´s simple, sure but SO fulfilling. Total Reccomendation, easily worth the money.

Fast paced, simple design and a whole lot of button smashing. If you spend all day clicking through the Steam store, reddit, porn or whatever and think you're pretty adept with a mouse and want an affordable game that'll challenge how fast you can mash then this is definitely for you.

Pros:
- Simple
- Two buttons
- Great soundtrack

Cons:
- Simple
- Two buttons
- Linear
