PATCH 1.0.12 is out!

Hi folks,
here we are with a new update!

First of all, we know many of you are waiting for some improvements in the game's AI and task management system. After tons of hours dedicated to it, Mikko has been working really hard on trying to get some stuff fixed. We're a bit sad we cannot come up with any improvement in this aspect on this update, the system is one of the most complex in the game. Has a lot of dependencies and is really hard to get it sorted out without a previous intense testing process in order to not cause major trouble. Mikko said he'll keep trying and will do his best, but emphasized that some help from you all will be really helpful.

Here's what you can do to help us improve game's AI:

http://steamcommunity.com/app/264140/discussions/0/617320168044745640/

And now the update, as we couldn't progress on AI soon, Mikko went on with the following great fixes. Payed especial attention to the most voted Mantis issues list (and that's the reason you're getting now a pirate flag editor in the game!):

New features

  • Added pirate flag ship item (buy from sailing store, place on top mast)
  • Added flag editor in ship builder (left mouse to paint, right mouse to erase) We wanna see your customized flags!
  • Press interact near your pets to "pet" them
  • Mount command is now called Carry/Release. Pick up pets (and crewmates) and release them (unmount) with the same button
  • Shoveling now has its own separate UI command button, no longer tied to interact
  • Added a new type of rare island (see if you can find one!)
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed bug where it was possible to plunder enemy ship while grappling to it, resulting in drowning
  • Fixed bug where some old saves could not be loaded and migrated
Minor stuff
  • Added "funny" messages to the main menu
  • Added a button to join the Quadro Delta live chat to the main menu (come and say Hi! :))
  • Plunder and Capture command buttons are now disabled if you can't use those commands
  • Updated Steam API (Achievements soon?)
  • Mac OS and Linux moved to main branch
  • Added a button in main menu settings to open save folder location

Thanks for your support.

PATCH 1.0.11 is out!

Hi everybody,
after so much work from Mikko and testers team, we can provide you with our so much promised new savegame format update. The game will now take your old saves (hosted under your installation folder) and convert most part of them to the new format, that is: player, crew and ship config and stats, all your progress will be there in your new game. The islands you already visited won't be in the game, and the ones you still haven't visited will be regenerated.

From now on, and thanks to the new savegame system, we'll be able to add much more content to the game (like we already did with castaway and hobo island in this update). As you can see, in this patch we also improved and enriched the bounty and treasure loot system. Take a look at the detailed changelog for more info:

General Bug Fixes

  • Player could sell ship blocks in the food shop
New features
  • Changed the game's save format (took forever, phew!): Old saves will be migrated when loading the game, the world map islands will be refreshed (same positions, new content), all the other data should transfer over just fine.
  • Added Castaway island as a teaser of things to come (Go find one!)
  • Every ship encounter now has one of the enemy be the captain, has higher level than the sailors from danger 3 and up.
  • Added treasure maps: read to find out the locations of buried treasure! (15% drop chance from any enemy ship captain).
  • Only captain can dig for treasure (sorry sailors!): to dig, get a shovel, equip it and press interact while standing on an island. Digging results may vary depending on location...
  • New interact button icon (hand) that changes to a shovel icon when the captain is holding one and also shows the new treasure digging cooldown.
  • Streamlined the UI of Bounty Boards.
  • Player can now have any number of bounties at the same time (only one per board though)
  • Bounty rewards are now scaled to island difficulty.
  • Treasure hunt skill has been re-purposed: now gives better loot to the captain when digging with a shovel.
  • Crew group selections are now saved and loaded properly.

Today we also opened a new channel where you can openly talk to the team, feel welcome to join us:
https://jabbr.net/#/rooms/QuadroDelta

Remember your old saves aren't wiped, they are still there. To locate the new savegame files, follow these instructions:

1. open windows explorer
2. type in %appdata% at the top bar and press enter
3. enter folder by the name of pixel piracy
alternative path (one possible): C:\Users\(YOUR USERNAME)\AppData\Roaming\PixelPiracy

Thanks for your support.
Mikko and Jesús.

“Wow, a 10/10, but why?! Why? because this game managed to captured my heart immediately, with its excellent sound effects, cute, even if unpolished, pixel art and the ability to not only lead a pirate life, but do it with your own customized ship and crew. the promised features will make it from a 8/10 right now to the 10/10 it could be. should be. will be. this one is bound to be a classic, and not reviewing it as such would only make me look fool in hindsight.”

“Pixel Piracy is a loveable game with its own barrel of charm the mood seems perfect and I can just forget all my other needs. I can't help but hear the sounds the pirates make every now and again even when I'm not playing. Very interested to see where this games goes down the line. The loss of my pirates may seem a bit unforgiving at the moment but I'l only try harder next time ! If you like a bit of randomness and the ability to design your own ship, assemble your crew whilst managing their needs then you might as well try this out.”
9.5 – Indiedb

“I don't give games a 10/10 that often, if not ever. But this game has so much going on for it, and it is under the radar right now. So, do yourself a favor, download the demo, have an awesome time, and then buy this game, cause it really is a gem. If you like pirates, and high sea adventure in highly randomized generated worlds, this is the game for you! It is very unforgiving, so you have to be very sure about your intentions when you play. One false planning and you have to start over from scratch (although there outside methods to save your game if you want to "cheat" save so do not worry). But the gameplay is fun, the art style, and sound effects are smarmy and swaggy. If you don't like this game, just walk the plank, because you don't enjoy fun things evidently :)”

Ok before i am judged for my good rating I shall explain. The game has high and low points so to start off I shall give the low points of the game.

1.
The beginning. Honestly I just found the beginning boring i wanted something a bit more exciting than just appearing at the menu.

2.
The directions. After I made my character I was so confused on what to do next. I looked at the help section but it didn't help much. So honestly I dont think it was implemented well.

Now for the good things in the game.

1. The freedom.
I enjoyed the fact that the game doesn't hold your hand. You have to learn how to do things. Its doesn't explicitly tell you. The fact that you only have one objective and that is to beat 4 major pirates gives the player something to work towards while exploring and pilaging like a pirate. I didnt have to go talk to npc's to unlock new areas I could go wherever I wanted. But bear in mind that even though you can go anywhere you should be cautious. You run the risk of sailing into an enemy that could wipe you out in an instant.

2. Creation.
I loved the ship creation the most, you can make what you want and it is awesome. I also love that you have the option of capturing a ship if you kill the crew.

3.
Stats and leveling up.
The leveling up in the game is fun and how you get skills is cool. Also the fact that your pirate can have alot of different skills. Leveling up feels good cause the stats influence gameplay heavily. For example if you upgrade strength alot your character will be a tank that can kill enemies easily,or if you increase vitality you can last longer in a battle. It is small things like this that make it enjoyable.

All in all this game is not for everyone.

However if you are willing to put in a good amount of hours into it you will be satisfied with what you achieve. Especially if you like leveling up games.

I rate this a 7/10

Yar har fiddle dee dee. A pirate's life for me. Difficult to get into. Glitchy/buggy. Don't buy until completely finished. AI sucks. But awesome once you get rich. Plunder ships to get gold, ship parts, and other stuff. Interesting game. Still needs a lot of work, and I do mean A LOT of work. Especially on AI. 6/10.

2 of 5 stars.

* The user interface is bad.
* Lots of minor bugs.
* Lack on content, you can attack islands and ship only, then repeat.
* You have no idea what most stuff do.

I want to recommend this game. I really do but at the game's current stage, I cannot. When I first checked that it was created by creators of Terraria, I thought to myself, "Hey, here's a nice lay-back game I could play. The creators should know how to make worlds in this game."

Then I get smacked in the face like just 3-4 hours into the game. The world does seem large and vast with variety in it, AT FIRST. Then after a while, the flaws of the game becomes so glaringly sharp that it just feels dull.

I haven't been to Lv6 or above island/pirate ships yet but except for your possible starting weapon, the Falcon Blade, there are absolutely no unique weapons. Even the Falcon Blade falls short after getting a crew of 5 combat-able pirates. After that it's just a plain Zerg rush onto enemy ships or hostile islands and wiping the populace from the face of the Earth. I guess if you want just a generic army with nothing truly special about them, this works. I wanted to feel special though.

Enemy pirate ships are not RNG encounters. They are actually listed on the map for you to go to beat up. After that, they're gone completely. So while you're traveling from point A to point B, you're sitting there looking at the screen for 1-2 minutes while playing games on your iPhone because literally nothing ever happens. In the beginning of the game, there were a rare instance of a Fishman jumping onto my ship and I had to kill it off but that never happens once you upgrade your ship to a larger one. All you will ever see on screen are your pirates pooping all over the deck, fishing for food, eating, text bubbles going so fast that you can barely read what they say and it's just plain BORING.

The chests in this game are absolutely disappointing. Except for the buried chests, the chests you find on islands and enemy ships yield about 3-10g depending on how many pirates have the 'More Gold in Chests' skill and their levels. Item loots are about 90% of the time grindstones to increase your melee weapons' damage. There are grindstones for ranged but you can only buy those. I would expect an enemy galleon to have way more than 10g and 2 grindstones in their stupid treasury box.

Game looks nice. Feels nice. Doesn't follow through. $10? Well I paid $7.50 since I had a coupon but... I've had $1 iPhone games that I've played for 20 hours so... You doods should wait.

Fun for a while but the game is repedative and also gets boring fast. I played this game for 3 days then i uninstalled cause of how bad it is, this game has alot of bugs and no helping updates, the reason why i even bought it was so the coupons can stop coming, I have 4 still in my inventory for this game that last to 2015! Its just a bad game.

This game game is a ton of fun. It takes lots of strategy to be good at the game. Even on normal difficulty, you need to be witty about what you decide to attack and what level ups to choose etc etc. If you make the mistake of not spending the money on the right things, you may end up starving your crew to death, which I almost did. For a $10 game I usually only expect 4-5 hours of content; but with the constant updates, I haven't played for 3 months and came back and it felt like playing it all over again. Def pick this game up.

Hey, It's a pirate rogue like. Decent game with some limited content issues. but it is what you make of it.

Pros:
Mechanically sound
Poo
Pirates
Tons of stuff to kill
ship battles

Cons:
"I drowned my captain again, why did I not buy the swimming skill."
Could use a content upgrade

I'm pretty sure I've spent more time writing this review than the devs had devoted to putting this game together.

It's an unpolished mess of a game that's stuck in Alpha and mislabled as being complete.

Just... No.

I'm a little disappointed this got released when it did because it's far from finished. Such a nice little idea but it's clunky as the controls are awful.

It'll amuse you for a few minutes and then you'll get on with something else. A lot of potential but none of it realised.

I had such high hopes...

Great idea with poor implementation.
Confusing control interface.
Repetitive and random sound effects.
Few tweakable options.

Worth a review, but not a buy at this point.

I have tried to give this game a second but i just cant do it anymore. Its such a buggy and glichy game and the graphics are horrible and most of time my entire crew starves because its hard to get gold in this game because everytime i sail somewhere a crew member ask for around two hundred gold and if i dont pay him he tries kill me. All in all this game is not worth it the gameplay is stale the graphics look like someone smeard vaseline on the screen and combat is pretty much just clicking an enemy and hoping you might win. The tralior and screen shots lure you in but you soon learn that the game is a dissapointing mess. pixel piracy is all in is not worth it and i hope you read this so you dont waste 10 dollors on this dissapointing game.

such a simple boring repetitive game that it is so mind numbing the only soltion is to watch watch movies and turn your head occassionaly to see if your captain needs healing. why your captain? because hiring crew is a pain and you can deafeat all the bosses with your captain solo. i only took on treasure missions just for something different and they are only benificial if you are under lv 10. you can easily skip to lv 90 in 6 hrs if you dont fall asleep like i did. my most important tip if you crave dull repetitiveness where you have no chance of failure is teach your captain how to swim. that was my only obsticle in the whole game but looking back you can get it at lv 1

Incomplete, unpolished and bug ridden.

The story of Early Access in a few words, post-release.

Another example of devs having beta testers pay for the privilege of 'testing' your game and not taking into consideration their comments/opinions, then quickly rushing to release and 2 months later agreeing it was a mistake.
