Son of Nor gets RealSense update!

Hello, Son of Nor fans! We’re excited to say that Son of Nor has received a new update that makes the game compatible with Intel RealSense! If you have an Intel RealSense, this update can change the way you play the game in some very cool ways!

The Intel RealSense features can be turned on or off in the Settings menu, like the other peripherals supported by Son of Nor. With Intel RealSense turned on, you will control character movement with the mouse, using the left mouse button to run. Your free left hand controls telekinesis and terraforming with gesture control, and you cast spells with the voice commands “Fire,” “Wind,” and “Essence.” Pretty cool, right?

In addition to the Intel RealSense integration, the new update includes several bug fixes. We’ve also added the ability to configure the “E” key (Cast Selected Spell) in the Settings menu.

Enjoy the update!

Reviews

“Son of Nor is clever in a way that we don't see very often in gaming, and combines innovation and polish better than most of the industry's big-name developers. It's different, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.”
CinemaBlend

“There’s no arguing about it, Son of Nor is an innovative game.”
MMOHuts

“Son of Nor looks and feels absolutely stunning... I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel like they’re a member of the Avatar cast, or who simply enjoys terraforming and throwing rocks at people.”

About This Game

As a Son of Nor, consecrated by the Goddess of the Night, you are all that stands between the human race and total extinction. Only one human enclave remains in the vast desert world of Noshrac, a hidden refuge called The Edge. After 400 years of peace, humanity’s ancient enemy the Sarahul appears once more, forcing you into an adventure to save your people.

Armed with telekinesis and terraforming, the gifts granted by the goddess Nor, you will explore the world of Noshrac, fighting through enemy territory and uncovering long-forgotten secrets. On your journey you will discover mysterious structures created by an ancient race that are filled with puzzles and traps – and the key to mystical powers unlike any you’ve ever seen.

As a Son of Nor, the World is your Weapon. Use it wisely.

I liked the concept for this game, and thought it had a lot of potential, but it suffers from shoddy execution.

PRO
  • Concept is novel, and gameplay not typical.
  • Co-op is available, and playing co-op can help make up for the game's shortcomings by making interesting combos possible.
  • Puzzles and platforming with physics - a great combination in almost any game that does it. It's possible the game would have been rather better for me if it had been about the puzzles instead of boring combat against swarms of boring enemies.

NEUTRAL
  • Dated graphics - only a con if you want AAA visuals.
  • Railroading - the world isn't open
  • The plot and characters are forgettable

CON
  • Voice acting is cringeworthy.
  • Inaccurate physics in a game where the physics is vital to gameplay
  • Controls are... slippery? I think that's the word for it. Hard to explain, but controls sometimes react slowly, and other times suddenly.
  • Surpsingly demanding on hardware for an older graphics style.
  • Combat is repetitive and dull. You can be creative, but the game encourages you to just bash everything with whatever is handy.

As a proof of concept this is pretty good but as a finished game it fails on multiple levels. The level design looks like something you'd expect from a late 90's early 3d platformer. It all feels too designed and not something you could actually live in. The controls are ... off. Things that should be easy take way too much effort to pull of. Like creating a slope so you can reach a collectible on a high rock. Or creating an air bridge with rocks. I got those things to work but the game was constantly working against me. Your character will often clip through the rocks you've floated in order to create steps. They also won't rotate so that the flattest side faces up so you if you don't clip through you'll slide off instead. Controling objects you're levitating is also finicky with a controller. Rotating objects that are part of a puzzle works but took much longer than it should have. Character animations are stiff and stutery. Heavy rocks bounce around like they're made of styrofoam. Puzzles are very standard and fail to surprise or entertain. There are simply too many issues to make this an enjoyable game.

I like the idea but it is poorly executed
Game looks and behave like it was created at least 15 years ago, very clunky, unpolished and amateurish, not only graphic i bad but voice acting, storytelling, menu, even character creation/ customization is horrible. Do not buy it, and even if it free it's still waste of time. I tried to give it a chance but I simply can't recommend it to anyone.

The game's optimization is very low. So, even on the lowest of the low graphical settings, I still can't get past more than one frame per second.
Now, my computer isn't the most beefy, but I damn well know it can run games like BioShock infinite on high.
So sorry, but I can't recommend this game if I can't even play it.

Even though a fairly short game it's is still very much worth playing. The ability to control the terrain around you as well as move objects and throw them provides for a very unique game play mechanic. The best part of this game is that it feels like the physics engine allow you to solve any problem a number of different ways rather than the typical "1 right answer" that many other games have.
