What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to allow the community involved in development! With the game very much under active development, early access allows us to maintain the flexibility to do the kind of wide-scale changes that would not be reasonable in a final release. This allows the game to continually evolve in response to user feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“As the team behind this game is relatively small, and our wish list for features and improvement is getting ever longer, it's difficult to put an exact estimate on how long we aim to stay in early access.

We hope however long we do stay in it produces the kind of results the community wants!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access we want to focus on optimization, stabilization and polishing. In addition to that we also have a fairly extensive wish list of features we would like to add if time allows. The list is actively changing based on community input (so make sure to give suggestions!), however some of the features we would like to add include:

  • More integrated campaign/story mode - possibly with cut-scenes to tie it together.
  • Larger and more extensive boss-battles.
  • More maps, and more polished versions of the current maps.
  • More game modes, and more fleshed out versions of the current ones.
  • More weapons, items, etc.
  • More customization flexibility.
  • More extensive modding support, potentially with a full engine source code release.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully Functional! But with various things that are very much subject to change. There may be bugs and polish required in various areas.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price is not intended to change when we leave early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We maintain discussion boards for the community, and actively read and consider any and all suggestions. We also provide access to all our development tools to allow users to contribute; bug trackers, localisation tools, map editors, etc, are all available. The gameplay source-code is also available for people to prod and poke at will!

Users are free to suggest their ideas and thoughts - which we actively base our plans off.”

Update 25/02/2016 (To Version 1.0.33.28a)

Update 25/02/2016 (To Version 1.0.33.28a)

A few new things, various fixed things and some modified things!

Side effect of this update is controller-bindings have now been reset (sorry!), as a lot of the controller input systems have been heavily modified.

Added:
  • Ability to drop weapons and coins.
  • Support default bindings for a huge number of controllers, controller support should be a lot more wide now. All controller configurations have been reset.
  • Local hosting option to lobbies, ticked by default. Handy if you don't want to wait for dedicated server searches.
  • Along with the above we've added additional button names / icon sets for the main controller types (ds4/ds3/xb1/xb360).
  • Support for manual control of enemy spawning.
  • Support for oval-paint tool in editor.
  • Compass pips showing the position and state of other players.
  • Various new gib types for destroyable objects.
  • Dead tag next to player names when they are dead.

Modified:
  • Nerfed the floater zombies firing interval and attack radius.
  • Increased per-round score bonus, reduced per-damage score reduction, reduced per-death score reduction, increased per-revive score bonus.
  • Reduced gib counts for a lot of different effects, reduces visual clutter.
  • Love pylon and turrets have far higher base health.
  • Enemy drops and player drops now dissappear out of existance after a while, get them while you can! Time depends on drop source, usually 2 minutes.
  • Disable various vfx processing when running as a dedicated server with a null renderer. Should reduce dedicated server CPU usage a lot.
  • Heavily changed item drop rates so rarity is a bit more evenly spread out.
  • Further balancing of fire damage.
  • Actors tag/event linking is now many-to-many, lot nicer when hooking up events in maps! Shift+Click on to several objects also quick-links them.
  • Maximum zoom out when sharing the same screen is reduced. This mainly effects campaign maps and is mainly a base for some of the future campaign maps.

Fixed:
  • Ensure players are spawned on round change in wave modes, even when the intermission is short.
  • Some text typo's.
  • Country flags now correctly show up in dedicated servers on the scoreboard.
  • Some HUD elements not desaturating when the player they refer to is dead.
  • Prevent overshooting the pathing target of zombies when they are moving at high speed (smooths out some of the jerky behaviour at very high waves).
  • Some indestructable weapons (namely screwdrivers) not being consumed when used.
  • Being able to equip a few passive skills that you shouldn't be able to.
  • Cheater achievement not unlocking correctly if user gains last level by purchasing any of the +1 level skill items.
  • Potential negative values for challenge's time-remaining.
  • Loss of items when going to further levels in dungeon.
  • Crash when disposing of render targets on GPU's without framebuffer-object support.
  • Turret damage not correctly contributing to turret challenges.
  • Not being able to change reference values in the editor property grid.
  • Now force fmod to emit stero format audio, rather than whatever the OS default is. Should fix some audio bugs people have had.

Have fun!

About This Game

Zombie Grinder is cross-platform, multiplayer game that features a variety of different game-modes to enjoy with friends, both locally and online. You can slaughter your way through many different maps, game modes and enemies - With tons of weapons and customization options!

Cooperation
Supports both local shared-screen coop (and split-screen if in pvp modes), online coop, and even the ability to mix both - bringing in multiple local players into online games!

Support is available for global community-wide in-game-chat, local in-game-chat and voice chat to make cooperation and setting up matches even easier!

Weapons & Customization
The game contains a constantly evolving stable of items to find in-game and add to your inventory! Giving you options to change each of your characters individual look and load-out. There are even some rare special-drops of steam-inventory items that have rare randomized stats for you to bring into your game!

This stable of items includes many fun and exotic weapons - everything from automated turrets to rocket-propelled-chainsaws!

Skills
The longer you play the game, the more experience your character gains, and the more times you level up! Leveling up allows you to unlock parts of the skill tree that give you passive or active skills you can activate during games to give you an edge over the enemy!

Game Modes
Many different modes are implemented, with more being worked on! For PVE this includes modes like: like wave-based game modes and objective modes. While PVP provides the common deathmatch style modes, CTF, TDM, DM, Gun-Game, etc.

If that's not enough we provide several rogue-like game modes that procedurally generate their game maps! Providing more longevity to the game!

Various game modes also provide global ranking to show how awesome you are at the game!

Level-Editor & Workshop
If that's not enough, the game also features a level editor that has full support for Steam Workshop. If the provided maps aren't enough, you can make your own or browse ones other people have made!

In future we want to work on opening up the source of some of the gameplay code to allow far-larger scope modifications!

This game has so much content with Campaign (not really story just objectives), Team deathmatch , Gun Game and a randomized level mode. Then there's the long as charcter skill tree and I'm talking about over 50 differrent upgrades!!! With weapon upgrades a little less than chracter uupgrades but still each weapon has it's own upgrade and there is about thousands of guns to upgrade!!! Dude then there's a awesome four player coop which I didn't use yet but all to say it was worth my money. JUST BUY THIS GAME!!!!!

Absolutly nobody online but it's kinda fun to play with a friend. The button placement is a little... off, but you can always set the controls the way you want. Overall I'd say it's a good game to get if it's on sale and if you can get your friends to buy it or come over.

Great game for early access
Dont be discuraged of the bad reviews, give it a try it wont do any harm :>
Good points
+at the start the controls abit werid but you get used to it
+theres many good features like campaign, endless, dugeon mode, pvp ect
+nice varity of hats and guns to use and buy
+a decent upgradeing system
+extreamly great music ^_^
+adictive and fun

for a early access game i reccomend buying this when on sale and with friends and to not stress about the minor things and just have fun. Tho it has it downsides

Bad points
-campaign only has 1 level and 3 maps (for now)
-that weird gas zombie makes you lag better off makeing that animation for it more simple
-in dugeon mode it very repeatative just each time u go down a level the items change and the map changes only abit
-you need to spend skill points for BP space O_o? this isnt tf2 :P
-Glitchy in some ways

BUTT!!!!! in overall if the creators continue updateing this game and makeing it better it will become a popular game. maybe adding more campaign maps, more bosses/ zombies, cosmetic (change the ♥♥♥♥♥), MORE GUNS AND HAT, a zombie vs humans mode, ingame map creator, more modes i guess but these are just the idears i have if the creators ever read this

This game is extremely under-rated and the only issue I have with it is how small the community is. It's like a pixelized L4D with a lot more detail and content.

Gives me that "Zombies Ate My Neighbours" vibe, but with bigger replay value and higher enjoyability when playing with friends. Numerous gamemodes, collectibles and customisation makes this awesome to play.

Can't wait to see the future for this game!

Question From Steam: Do you like Zombie Grinder?

YOU BET I SURE AS HELL DO BECAUSE THIS GAME IS AWESOME.

Alright lets get into the details: You can create a character, and can customize it to full ability. You can buy weapons, get level ups, and get pretty awesome skills. You can also become a zombie when you die (who doesn't?). Honestly...Buy this game.

But wait! THERE'S MORE! It has challenges for you to do to unlock hats (different heads, YES!), paints, GEMS (do upgrade or downgrade your weapons)...The awesome part? You can go into a dungeon map! AND...They're randomly
generated. Seriously, this game is awesome. But it's very very hard. Recommended played with friends.

How friends join: First, create a private game. Then, once hosted (your friends have to be ingame of course) you need to Shift-Tab to go to your steam overlay (Enable it if you haven't already), then invite them to your game, or you can ask them to Shift-Tab themselves and right click on YOUR profile picture in the steam overlay, and press Join Game.

Alright that's my review, my name's Melnorme and good luck!

Really good and really smooth twin stick shooter. I love the graphics and I really like how things explode into bits when killed or destroyed. The accessories and weapons are all pretty fine and all the weapons are relatively usable as well, which is rare for today's games.

The developer constantly replies to threads and is always listening to the feedback given in the forums, which is just astoundingly great.

I haven't come across any bugs in this game yet and anything that I think needs to be changed the developer has addressed already and stated he will be doing something about it in his next update. I'd really recommend this game if you even mildly enjoy twin sticks, zombies, or games with online multiplayer and the option for single player as well.

8.5/10. Now i'm gonna go play some more

It dawned on me that the title of this game isn’t just a fun play on words—if you’ve ever wondered how hordes of zombies would fare inside a blender, then you’re in for a treat!

Zombie Grinder plays exactly as it reads—and it’s glorious. Moments after starting any game mode, the ground is painted green, and littered with chunks of flesh, goo, and an assortment of other gross odds and ends.

No holds barred, there’s an extensive assortment of weaponry at your disposal, all of which offer a satisfying means drop tonnes of zombie chunks. New players are equipped with a pistol and additional weapon pickups are strewn throughout levels, although it’s a lucky dip-esque scenario, which can raise the stakes in stressful situations. Zombie mobs will occasionally drop weapons in the same fashion, too. Otherwise, character level milestones will unlock weapons that become purchasable in a shop accessed via the main menu; these can be equipped for immediate use at the start of any game.

As well as weapons, cosmetic items are available for purchase in the shop. The range includes: hairstyles, accessories, and colours to dye the aforementioned. These are fun additions, though be weary of durability; nothing lasts forever!

The number of character customisation and playstyle options may seem overwhelming, but they provide a welcome sense of autonomy. Players can alter their character’s dexterity and abilities via a vast skill tree, accruing skill points to invest upon levelling up. Opting for certain skill pathways will lock you out of others, to prompt roles or specialties (support/damage/and so on); this is especially important for multiplayer sessions, where survivability is reliant on teamwork. Re-rolling your skill points is available at a small cost, thankfully, which offers an incredible level of flexibility (or the means to fix any mistakes from trigger-finger clicking).

Zombie Grinder stands out in a market saturated with pixel art titles; a lot of care and time has gone into crafting assets that are very easy on the eyes. It’s especially impressive that nothing seems entirely flat, or flush to a set plane, as can be the case with this art-style. Instead, props, characters, and settings possess a satisfying level of depth with respect to one another. (Noticing and appreciating this is purely pedantic on my part, but it’d be a shame for it to go without recognition all the same.)

A friend recommended buying Zombie Grinder on a whim, as we’ve been searching for multiplayer games worthy of our time and money. Still being in development, I was initially hesitant, but upon purchase and our first play session, I was taken aback by the polish and playability it offered. Surprising still, the game isn’t complete, and yet the standard has been set so high! Ultimately, that’s what compelled me to write this review, as I have nothing but praise for this work-in-development.
