To properly enumerate the many flaws present in Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta - Episode 1 - Gold Edition would be a hideously superfulous task. It is better that one narrows their focus to only the game's most terrible aspects; additions that not only detract from this ambitious title's playability, but cement Trail's status as possibly the most consitently incompetent title currently available on steam. This is not to say that Trail of Ibn Battuta the WORST game one steam. (That honor still belongs to Adam's Venture or arguably Bad Rats) I would liken a playthrough of Trail to watching "Plan 9 From Outer Space" where-as an Adam playthrough is more akin to suffering through "Gigli" with a full bladder.
A convoluted awkward script limps blindly over messy physics and positively baffling game mechanic choices. Seriously what the f**k is that balance beam s**t? :rfacepalm: During cutscenes Faris' and Dania's character models stare lifelessly at locations off camera while vomiting up a veritable salamagundi of arabic historical twaddle. (*To be fair, the voice actors deliver the best performance possible given a positively asinine script. At times they even manage to charm)

During my initial playthrough I was absolutely revolted by the misogymy. and completing a playthrough of the game my opinion softened slightly. The truth is, the devs really aren't trying to make Dania a feckless stereotypical dud. According to the dev notes they are "working on it." It is my opinion that the developers just don't know any better culturally.

HOLY F**K! A beautiful, headstrong-yet-modest, female, riding an ATV in pants, brandishing a pistol? and not accompanied by a man? Heresey! Dania then proceeds to drive Faris through a battle where the player will kill more people than cancer. You can tell from the bodycount that this title was not produced by some p**sy Christian.
I think the developers have an opportuniuty to make this right. Dania is an intriguing character. Far more so than Faris. (Though I must admit my great admiration of his scarf!) I want to believe that the devs are trying. My suggestion?
LET THE USER PLAY AS F***ING DANIA. It is not an uncommon mechanic in adventure games to switch between characters. Some of problems with narrative and plot could be easily resolved by adding this mechanic. How does Faris end up in such a sh**ty situation? So many POSSIBILITIES to explore "on the way home" to the prologue.
Yes, we are now stuck with the predicatable canon of "Apeman rescue princess. make happy end" because of the opening sequence. However, with a little clever writing the devs stand a fair shot of exiting their sexist caves and give us a strong female lead who looks great wasting bit.ch-as.s marks in a ḥijāb. There's really nowhere to go but up for this franchise. I look forward to Episode 2.
