Misa is a Blade Templar, a secret defender of humanity, who happens to be a high school student. When her classmate, Suzuka, succumbs to the dark seduction of the Demon Blade, Misa releases she must protect the world at all costs. Already the evil sword is draining Suzuka's life force and, if Misa cannot destroy the Blade alone, she very well may need to strike down her friend.

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae focuses on high-speed arena-based action. Use lightning fast sword slashes, hand-to-hand attacks and mysterious ancient techniques to defeat wave after wave of demonic foes. Be prepared: the enemies are relentless and will attack from all sides. If you aren't prepared to strike and roll, you'll be overwhelmed in no time flat.

Weaken your enemies with vicious wounds, employ hand-to-hand techniques to build your katana gauge, then cut deep with your divine blade. A spectacular flurry of blades will take down even the largest crowd of NPCS! After beating them bloody, sheathe your sword to finish them off with style. Be warned: if the enemy isn't "bleeding," then they'll take the opportunity to strike you mid-pose!

No this isn't worth $2.49.
I wanted to love this game. I really wanted to at least like this game. But ♥♥♥♥ poor control response along with cheap enemies and a camera that is way to close kneecap the experience. Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae has enemies that can still move as they pull off gigantic attacks until the very last frames at times. This makes dodging mostly luck. Think about this, some attacks can take over %70 of your health as with the bosses yet instead of standing still as they unleash these attacks they just oddly rotate to follow you at times. It's broken. Common mobs do the same thing at times. It's maddening. Next we have the totally broken blocking system that makes blocking another luck mechanic. Holding block before the attack reaches you does'nt block most attacks. You need to time it to the attack... But that doesnt work most of the time either!

The gameplay gets really boring fast as you find yourself spamming the same attacks that push enemies back when you are fighting packs. Because the camera is so close to you that you can't really do anything else. There are a lot of moves in the game, but they are basically useless as you find yourself again spamming what works, because the camera again doesn't let you pull off the other attacks well. So most of the jump moves are useless during most of the game.

The graphics are nice, but the enemies are reused way way way too much. Later on more and more color swapped enemies show up and just crowd around you and unless cheap attacks from off screen that cheap shot you. You also have to later deal with more enemies with attacks that just cannot be blocked. So its dodge the trash mobs, push attack one in a corner till he bleeds and move on the next and spam your heal attack.

It gets really repetitive. I know the game is cheap, but it's like a broken early beta build. Boss fights are super duper cheap and frustrating. Most of the battles came down to sheer luck in my opinion. Will my blocks work this time? Will he keep spinning towards me as he unleashes his super attack? Will my dodges work?

There is no sense of accomplishment with Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae because the game is so broken you are just glad to be done with the level. Grinding doesnt get you as far as you hope it will because your health gets capped very quickly. Again most of the moves you can buy and upgrade are useless in battle. Sadly you can't raise your attack strength at all so it comes down to a bit of skill and a lot of luck.

I hate to say this but don't bother with this game until the developer patches the hell out of this.

Being a fan of the Hack and Slash genre it's safe to say that Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae isn't a bad game for its price, especially when it is on sale. It is a stage arena arcade style game

Pros
- Fluid combat system
- Quick intense gameplay
- Unique ablities and combos
- Graphics are fairly decent
- Strangely very addictive
- Surprisely Challenging on the hardest difficulties

Cons
- No real Lock-on System except an auto one, however this isn't a major issue in the game
- Camera Angles can go dodgy when pushed into a corner
- No real story, its very basic and lackluster
- Enemy designs aren't nice
- Very short Campaign with no other modes just harder difficulties

Overall It is a stage arena arcade style game with some flare and for its price i cannot fault it to much

There's something strikingly beautiful in an attractive woman who stares into your eyes with an unyielding will as in a fateful encounter you meet her under within the nightscape of a deserted town, as she's surrounded by silhouettes not belonging to the world of the common people. A proud and graceful maiden of uncanny skill as she carries herself with solemn determination, vowing to find her childhood friend and save her from the artifact that has her in its grasp. It is a story of a young girl who braves the shadows of the night, wielding her blade as if its part of her body, making her existence much like an unsheated sword. Drawn to its beauty while keenly aware that there is no turning back once entering her world, yet I do so without hesitation for it is my wish to be with her. Thus it begins.

It was made very clear from there that this game is not a 2D fighter, where you fight computer controlled enemies or other players in a side view window. You play as a maiden of ancient sword arts who describes in a short prologue animation who she is an who she's looking for. It quickly switches to the first stage of her mission through the night, an arena somewhere in a city placed in a square between skyscrapers. The graphics is definitely one of the best qualities of MKH, since not only it is in full 3D, but it shows nicely drawn environments which range from the heart of a large town to traditional Shinto shrines hidden reminiscent of olden ages, complete with either sunsets or cherry blossom trees. The sword skills the can be played are also very nice with the particles of light denoting the attacks making for some really flashy plays.
Choosing the set of clothes for her is also a great feature, since it gives the chance to play in various costumes, though her default school uniform is still definitely the best. Nonetheless there are several more depicting different styles and personalities, and while it doesn't give Skyrim level possibilities of choices, it's a pretty good way to make for a good atmosphere. You can't make panty shots while she's wearing a hakama though.

It also has a great gameplay, where our Blade Templar launches devastatingly beautiful attacks in iaido style, all of which are executed in such a manner that it can only be described as awe inspiring. To use these moves, one has to first unlock them and other upgrades in a menu with the SP collected by eliminating the groups of opponents persistent on stopping us before we can reach the bosses who provide a more interesting challenge. These come in five setting.

-Easy
-Normal
-Hard
-Very Hard
-Inferno

It should be noted that not only does the number of enemies increase with each of them along with the damage inflicted, but on the highest even the slightest scratch is enough instantly kill our brave warrior, so being very fast is essential in clearing it, lest you wear yourself out by repeatedly trying the same waves to no avail later. One could say however that this is one of the real charms of the gameplay, since it provides actually good rounds where you have to be very careful and as such, give a great feeling when the combo does succeed.

For the musical selection, each stage has its own that fits in very well, playing catchy songs that are very good at making us itching to fight, taking on a more modern approach than some would expect but it actually makes for a better experience so there was no need to make it differently. Voice acting is also great, if a little short due to not having many chances to hear it, as Mitsurugi itself is a small game, so it is not a big surprise.

Replayability is also good, though it painfully lacks an option to fight other players in multiplayer, or a survival mode where you fight the various hordes until they either overwhelm you or defeat them through a number of rounds. A few more stages also would have been nice, since the few the matches take place on can be cleared in a matter of hours even on the highest difficulty setting. And with no mods available, we can't even turn to to community for help like with many popular games we do.

But an even more painful side is how the story is handled. They just closed it without providing any kind of epilogue that settles the mission, making it feel kind of meaningless since after the last boss it shortly returns to the title screen. Really now, they should have made a real ending, not this as it shows how much better it could have been if the developers didn't want to finish it as quickly as they could, though being an indie game made for ComiKet it's still amazing with how it grabs the player's attention.

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is one of those games that are unknown to most, yet famous for those who like the genre since it has great possibilities, lots of fun, and if done well pure awesomeness. Definitely recommended for those who like fighting games, and even more so when it goes on sale. So draw your sword, move in the night and leave nothing but corpses behind!

About as simplistic as a hack n' slash game can get, no true story mode to speak of, and the controls aren't the greatest on keyboard (would definately reccomend a controller for this one). But the combat is solid, the main character is sexy af and the boss designs are pretty nice. Don't expect too much other than to be mildly titilated by the sexy schoolgirl protagonist and to have simplistic yet fun combat and you'll be happy. Nab this one if it goes on sale cause it's a steal if you can get it for under $5.

WARNING: This game is short

I\'m talking about 2-5 hours at most. Depending on how fast you pick it up, and how much you plan to play.

Skilled player could beat the story in about 20 min no doubt.

Still, fun as hellm, stylized action game. Would love to see something like this with more content, but oh well.

Think Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry but more anime.

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is what I like to call a "supplemental" game. This is a game you would play while taking a break from another similar "main" game. Some people would prefer to play a different game, but I don't know. Juggling a plethora of games that represent dozens of different genres would turn anybody's brain into stale yogurt. Why take the risk when you can play something similar that's stil entertaining?

This game - which I'll refer to as MKH because acronyms are fun (AAF) - falls under the genre of arena-slasher. Typically a character-action game has some mode where you fight wave after wave of enemies (Bloody Palace, Lost Chapter, Tests of Valor). When a character-action game is literally just that wave-based mode, it becomes an arena-slasher. These are pretty rare and tend to be doujin titles, like Croixleur Sigma (also available on Steam).

The plot to MKH is: woman kills stuff with katana. Each of the five chapters are divided into five waves. Enemies are rich in number but poor in identity. There are guys with swords, red guys with swords, yellow guys with swords, big guys with swords, robots, an evil schoolgirl, and maybe 1 or 2 other different types of enemies. However, this is a short game, one that you can slash through in less than two hours.

Not-evil schoolgirl (I already forgot her name) has a sweet sword and not much else when you start off. Upgrades can be purchased as well as new moves and powers. The #1 thing to keep in mind throughout is parrying. While it's easy to mash the attack button and slice evil to pieces, playing defensively is how you avoid getting your combos broken. More specifically, it's all about the parry. Blocking is fine, but it doesn't work on heavy attacks and tends to get broken by a continous assault. Timing the block just right allows NES to awesome her way through the enemy's attack and deliver a strong counter-move.

There are other tactics to keep in mind. When an enemy is struck enough times they'll start to bleed (turn red). At this point a few more hits are liable to kill the enemy, just before they die the player should sheathe their weapon. It's like that common Japanese maneuver where the samurai cuts a dozen people at once, but they only fall over and die after the sword's been sheathed. In this game it's just something you want to do to boost your skill-points & regain health, though it also does big damage to bosses. There are other abilities and skills to master, but it's better to get a feel for it while playing the game.

For the most part, MKH is a breezy entertaining slasher. It's satisfying getting those big combos while also deflecting numerous attacks coming from every angle. Keeping track of the action can be difficult though, and your sound has to be turned up to notice the enemies that inevitably attack from behind. Some more variety in the enemies and bosses would have been appreciated, but maybe it's just me. I've been playing Bayonetta 2 and it seems like every 10 minutes there's a new enemy to fight. Like I said though, MKH is a short game. 10 minutes in that game is at least 3 or 4 waves. New enemy-types would just get lost in the chaos.

Unlike the games it serves a supplementary role to, MKH can be enjoyed even if you only have 5 minutes of free-time. There's no sitting through cut-scenes or loading, nor does it take several minutes to get the action. It's also possible to save in-between waves, and you certainly aren't expected to play through the whole thing without dying. Start this game up, slash through a few waves, and put it down so you can focus on your main title.

All in all, this is a worthwhile pick-up.

It's like Metal Gear Rising but you play as cute anime girl and her skirt is so short that you can see her pantsu so i have to play it with one hand so it's really hard but totally worth it.

This game! What should I say? I don' know.. It's good. Somehow.
But 10€? I'd rather wait till you can get it for 5$/€.

The game itself has some neat graphics, as you can see in the trailer/ screenshots, it has a nice soundtrack, really accurate controls and cool gameplay.

As for:
- the graphic: sure is nice, no doubt - especially for a game with not even 300MB in size. The downside is that, if you want some variety, you'll be disappointed. There are only 4 different enemy models (+4/5 bosses) and 4 arenas. Your attacks look nice, but nothing overwhelming or new. If you watched the trailer you've seen quite everything. Also you cant alternate your character. At all (Okay. There are only 2 costumes you can buy, but that's it)
(also there are no lip-sync in cut scenes)

- the soundtrack: more like the 3 songs. The music fits really good. But: The game contains, as far as i noticed it, like 3 different tracks (normal fight, boss battle and final boss) which will loop endlessly. Again: some more variety sure would have been nice.

- the controls: simple, yet very effective controls! Your character responds immediately and with a few buttons you can chain your attacks together to devastating combos.

- the gameplay: All in all... Sadly quite repetitive. It IS a fun game, no doubt. But it feels incomplete. It feels more like a tech demo for a fighting system. You simply fight wave after wave of enemies within a circle shaped arena which you can't leave, fall/ throw enemies off or use any objects/ items.
After like 5 waves you fight a boss of this arena. The bosses usually are have easy to memorize and clearly predictable attacks. That's somehow good since it won't get frustrating at all. But on the other hand it sadly makes the boss battles far too easy.
You start with a weak 4 hit combo attack which fills up your "katana gauge". Each attack (you don't even have to land a hit) with your katana drains a bit of it. So you'll have to chain together weaker and stronger attacks to not run out of it completely (side note: there are no other penalties to an empty katana gauge other then not being able to use the katana. Also this system gets completely pointless once you've upgraded your character a bit. I never had the slightest problem with running low on katana energy.)
Every killed opponent drops more or less "SP" which is the 'money' for buying upgrades for your character. You can buy a few attacks, upgrade every attack to deal more damage or have extra effects and upgrade your health (+regeneration) and your katana gauge (+regeneration).

In conclusion I'd really love to see this fighting game, or rather "fighting system", to be developed further and put into an open world, or at least bigger action adventure game with more skills and a bigger variety of attacks/ combos.
If you can live with a bit repetitive, short arena fighting game, you'll sure have fun with this. If you want this game and are patient: wait till it has a bigger discount!


(On a side note: If you're planing to play on "Hard" mode right from the beginning: that's pure suicide. You won't stand any chance. You'll HAVE to do a play through on normal or easy to unlock some power ups so you stand a chance on hard)
