The smash hit action game from Comic Market 84 is finally available on Steam!

Misa is a Blade Templar, a secret defender of humanity, who happens to be a high school student. When her classmate, Suzuka, succumbs to the dark seduction of the Demon Blade, Misa releases she must protect the world at all costs. Already the evil sword is draining Suzuka's life force and, if Misa cannot destroy the Blade alone, she very well may need to strike down her friend.

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae focuses on high-speed arena-based action. Use lightning fast sword slashes, hand-to-hand attacks and mysterious ancient techniques to defeat wave after wave of demonic foes. Be prepared: the enemies are relentless and will attack from all sides. If you aren't prepared to strike and roll, you'll be overwhelmed in no time flat.

Weaken your enemies with vicious wounds, employ hand-to-hand techniques to build your katana gauge, then cut deep with your divine blade. A spectacular flurry of blades will take down even the largest crowd of NPCS! After beating them bloody, sheathe your sword to finish them off with style. Be warned: if the enemy isn't "bleeding," then they'll take the opportunity to strike you mid-pose!

Use skill points to learn new skills, upgrade your abilities, and take on brutal bosses. Every playthrough of Mitsurugi will grow you as a player until your success if guaranteed! And if the game suddenly becomes too easy, there are three difficulty levels to test your mettle. Good luck!

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is a hack-n-slash action game that unfortunately falls flat on alot of things. While at first this game seems rather fun and intense, it quickly becomes apparent that this game is a giant mess of repeating itself and essentially using the same go-to combo over and over to beat the game. While hack-n-slash games are known for being able to be beaten for the most part by mashing a single attack button; this game's lack of variety and boring progression bring the interest level very quickly to a halt.

Merits of Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae:
  • Visually, this game is appealing. The character models are nicely done and the action for the most part is fairly flashy.
  • Combo system has you aiming to get your highest combo count and enables you to string together multiple attack options in your own way to create a unique combo-string.
  • Achievements for the most part are very easy to obtain. About 30 minutes into it I had already gotten roughly half of them without even knowing.
  • Save anywhere. Literally anywhere in the game via pause menu. This makes the game easier to pick up and play whenever you want. Given the save only saves the current wave you are on and not so much your exact location within said wave.
  • Unlockables adds replay value.

Limbo-Merits/Faults of Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae:

While I don't find these particularly important specs of the game, it is worth mentioning for the interest of others.
  • Fanservice to a certain degree. Ladies dressed as school-girls, short skirts and panty-shots. You get the idea.
  • Cyber-punk stylized enemies.
  • Voice acting is only japanese (with subtitles) to really drive home that anime feel. Sometimes english voices on these kind of games just don't work and/or just aren't good.

Faults of Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae
  • Controller is heavily advised, which depending on if you have one or not may be a problem for you.
  • Incredibly short game. The harder difficulties give you a feel for a longer game, but really it's just pseudo-lengthening.
  • Extreme lack of variety and lack of content.

    1. EVERY single stage is the same thing; a circle. That's it, minus a song change and slight change in appearance.
    2. Enemies are copies of eachother, only difference is maybe ONE move they occasionally do and a color-palette swap with the occasional super-armor effect. In total 4 different enemies, one of which you will encounter MANY times over and over. 4 total boss enemies.
    3. Two bosses are used multiple times as the end-level boss, only SLIGHTLY more difficult in terms of how much damage you take.

  • Harder difficulties have you spamming the same combo string to avoid getting hit while also trying to do effective damage. While it adds to the difficulty and challenge, it becomes rather tedious.
  • Certain enemies/bosses have a random super-armor effect that cannot be predicted. Most times the enemy will use this in the middle of your combo and unleash a devastating combo on you, wiping out a chunk of your life.
  • Certain enemies have a super-armor effect the WHOLE time, unless brought to a bleed out state. While on the "Hard" and easier difficulties this isn't too much of an issue, higher difficulties spam these enemies at you which all attack at once all while having much higher health than normal. This tends to break the fast paced action feel that the game promotes.
  • While it might be obvious, the game is rather shallow in terms of the plot and the events of the game almost seem random.

Overall;

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae falls flat in terms of full-length entertainment. Though I did have fun with the game here and there; the repetitive stages, enemies and combos quickly become uninteresting as it seems like you're stuck in one level the whole entire game.

Assuming you've read all of this, and are still unsure; take a look at more reviews and maybe a video or two of gameplay online to get a better feel.

As a fan of fighting games i am dissapointed ... You know something is wrong when you finish "story" mode in 90 minutes and you still got bored while playing .. Story mode is same levels over and over again with almost same enemies with boss at the end and with "story" that should not be even included because its so pointless and basic that you dont even know ... its fun probably for 30 minutes then you feel like there is nothing more .. and you are correct ... combat is smooth but boring with bad camera and same combos and enemies over and over again ... probably not best game for keyboard as well so gamepad is pretty much needed or maybe its just me .... only positive thing is probably model of your hero ... i expect more for 10 euros
Some people may like this and probably play it to achieve 100% achievments ... i am not that kind of person

It's not even a poor man's Devil May Cry. It's a completely ruined and broken shell of a world economy man's Devil May Cry. And that's me being nice.

The FIRST TUTORIAL MISSION in Metal Gear: Revengeance is better than this whole "game".

Playing the same boring battle circle stage over and over again, with waves of the exact same enemies in other color palettes, got boring quick. It was all I could do not to cut my wrists in boredom.

The "developers" made a very boring, barebones working prototype of a game. Let me know when you plan on updating my purchase to an actual full game, with more stages than one tutorial stage and more enemy diversity than groups consisting of the same robot dressed in a suit, so I can maybe give THAT release a 1 out of 10.

How this game got positive reviews, I'll never know. I was expecting Metal Gear Revengeance mixed with Heavenly Sword. Not even close. Every "level" is a square arena with flat textures and bad graphics. Your character doesn't even travel from room to room. There is no world in this game! Waves of Daft Punk rejects appear; you kill them with your sword; the next wave appears; repeat ad nauseam. That's it. I just described the entire game for you. Oh, but let's not forget the annoying bosses that pop up at the end of a few waves. They're exactly like the normal enemies, only they require the patience of a saint to defeat. The main character (I don't even know what her name is) looks kind of like Gogo Yubari from Kill Bill. Very cool, right? Too bad her sole purpose is to shriek in Japanese and flash her crotch. Great character development. The story can be summed up in two sentences. Your friend has a sword that steals souls. Go fight her. That's a wrap, people! Award-winning writing right there! The combat, which should be the highlight of a hack-and-slash game, is pitifully shallow. There are maybe four combos in your whole arsenal. The enemies barely make sounds when you hit them. The interesting features (i.e. replenishing your health by doing a dramatic sword sheath and being able to "bleed" opponents) cower in the gargantuan shadow of bad controls. (Really? Pressing forward on the joystick makes me perform a slow dash attack? I have to keep the joystick in a completely neutral position before I attack? Wonderful.) I played this game for about 45 minutes (which is remarkably HALF of its entire run-time) and asked for a refund. I know many, pre-teen boys will buy this hoping to see some hot, Japanese babes, but the game wasn't even worth the $2.50 USD I paid for it. Go find babes somewhere else. Or self-respect. That works, too. 3/10.
