Trading Cards!

Back in 1924 when my grandfather invented rectangles, life was simpler.

Kids these days expect trading cards to spawn after every 30-60 minutes engaging in any given activity.

Ate lunch? Here's a trading card commemorating your burrito. Why don't you trade it for the card your friend scored by getting a hair cut.

Do you have a shoelace tying card, a state tax preparation card AND a whistling on a bicycle card?! Let me craft that into a badge for you!

Actually that all sounds pretty neat. Count me in. Girls Like Robots trading cards for everybody!

Tiny Update!

I added a button that does a thing when you press it. It's on a menu. Switches between English and Japanese. Bet you wish you could add buttons like that to things. I totally can. I totally did.

Also, did you notice? There was a typo in Japanese. I got that. Taken care of. Everybody put down your knives and laser-flamethrowers. We can all walk out of here alive.

Understanding nerds, Artificial Intelligence, women, and romantic chemistry...

I'm a huge fan of puzzle games, almost any kind of puzzle game will entertain me. What sets this one apart and makes it fun to play and interesting is the very same thing that holds it back from being a "great" game. The graphics, while well drawn and cute, do grate on your nerves after a bit.

The developers responsible for this game have obviously spent a lot of time worrying about the sound design, the cute voice effects and absolutely fantastic old-timey bluegrass soundtrack kept me playing longer than I would have otherwise for a first sit-down with this game. Even with the great soundtrack and cute voices, I see myself playing through Girls Love Robots in small 15-minute chunks, as opposed to marathoning the entire thing like with most puzzle games.

So, really, my most major criticism is that it just isn't addictive enough. Cute, simple to understand concept with some surprisingly challenging puzzles when pared with the childlike graphics do not make something easy to sit and pour hours into at a time. I don't think this was the point of the game, anyway, but it is definitely something that loses points - at least for me, it does. After 20 minutes or so, you will want to strangle every, "Normal girl," that lets out an excited squeal whenever placed next to a robot. Very mixed feelings about this game.

Switching up the gameplay features and creating interesting challenges does keep the game interesting to a degree, and I appreciate the silly but harmless sense of humor inherent within it. This game would be great if you have a friggin' genius for a child that can figure out puzzles, but they would probably get bored with it after a few short sessions, as well.

The hilarious use of stereotypes is great - you've got your nerds that sit in the corners, and are pleased as punch surrounded by robots, your preppy girls who love robots because they're cute, the nerdy girls who are loners and love ladybugs, and the robots, which are way overdone - but it has been a few years since they've been featured in a major way in anything pop culture related thanks to the zombie boom. It hasn't been that long, yet, fellas.

I got it in a bundle, so I really can't say anything bad about the price, but on the Steam store it would be a worthy pick up for less than 5 dollars. However, I wouldn't pay any more than that for it, because you might not finish the game, or you may take forever to finish it by playing in small bursts of time.

Sure, I recommend it, but don't count on getting addicted to it like with some other puzzlers.

6.5/10 - Gameplay and addictiveness.
9/10 - Soundtrack.

I still don't know what to make of this game, but I've learned one thing, girls sure do like robots. The many different puzzles and challenges really make the game, and the cute little story really makes me want to play more.

I have played this game for a while and I enjoyed it, but Act 2 and level 3 came and game crashed. I wasn't able to run it further. So sad :(

Affinity / Non-affinity type of game logic.

Could swear the nerd in the game is meant to look like Bill Gates (as in, girls like robots more than the evil Bill G...)

While it seems simple at first, the puzzles get increasingly compex. I relly enjoy it, and thought it was worth the price.

This is one of the most insane puzzle games I've ever played. The mechanics are simple: you have a grid of X by Y squares, place your pieces down in a way that everyone likes who they're seated beside (the basic rule of the game: Girls like Robots. Girls don't like Nerds. Nerds like Girls, Robots, but not other Nerds).

Except then suddenly you're learning that June actually really likes Bugs. But Bugs don't like Girls. And Ben likes June, so make sure to leave a space near June for Ben so he can ask her out, and...

The game's complexity builds slowly, and it comes through adorably quirky cutscenes. It also has 3 tiers of medal per stage, but in a twist I absolutely adore, "gold" does not mean "perfect" - it just means "the highest". This is one of those games where the designer didn't go through and mathematically 'solve' every stage and expect you to do the same, and that goes a long way for me in saying "This is the kind of game devoted to fun first, humor second, and everything else is just a bonus".

Plus, if you score enough golds and things, you unlock alternate silly modes. I'm waiting to see what Nerd Drop is.

edit: Infinite Nerd Drop is everything I wanted from the name.

After eight hours of enjoying the small storyline, smiling at the art, rubbing my forehead in frustration at the occasional level, trying to get gold for all of the puzzles and giving the nice message I gave to one of the developers, I finally have my review for Girls Like Robots.

I was not disappointed.

I don't play many puzzle games, but I'm happy that this one was the one off. Basically, you have to arrange the people in the way the game demands; Girls like the robots, robots like the girls, nerds like the robots and the edge of the playing field and, last but not least, the girls don't want to be near the nerds. It's all straightforward until you begin to realize that this isn't a linear, repetitive game. No, the developers keep throwing new things at you in order to keep it fresh. This made it extremely entertaining the entire playthrough.

The music isn't too bad, but at times it could be repetitive. Then again, I was focusing like a madman on the puzzles and the art (the square people are cute, ok!?) so the music didn't really capture my attention that much.

All in all, a good puzzle game for the price and an enjoyable one at that. I recommend it to anyone interested and I hope they find the same amount of enjoyment that I did in the game.

Nice, entertaining little game.

Graphics are not much elaborate, but it doesn't stop you from having fun seeing those people get happy or angry.
The storyline doesn't (always) make sense, but it is funny and original, and every little cutscene in the game (and there are a lot) introduces a new feature.

If you want to get full marks on each level, it will take a bit of time, as it is hard to master everything here but the good point is that you'll definitely not get bored in this game as each objective is pretty much different from another.

Just a little thing that's bugging me : I find it difficult to know how much I'll gain or loose from placing this character in that place because all the neigbours will react at the same time to this new presence (in a good or bad way). So, that means trial and error until you get the perfect/good enough combination to pass the level.

Ah ! and as you've probably noticed while watching the trailer, this game also has a bit of humor ... enjoy !

An extremely fun puzzle game with a quirky sense of humor, an amusing storyline, and great music and art. I highly encourage you to pick it up when it's on sale if you like puzzle games. Overall it's a great little game, but I could just be saying that because I'm a girl and GIRLS LIKE ROBOTS!!! WOOT.

This girl loves robots and man, is this an addicting little game!

Remember those brain teasers from gradeschool tests? "Lisa hates Lyle but Lola wants to sit next to Lucas. Who is eating the ham sandwich?" Girls Like Robots is like the grown-up (okay, term loosely used) version of that. Mix and match, use your cows acid milk to burn some holes in picnic blankets and don't forget to save a seat for bug girls pet insects. A very cute, endearing sort of game that's about 20% brain power and 80% clicking around until you find a match. Excellent absorber of excess time when you have 10 or 20 minutes to kill and features some super adorable (yes, -super- adorable) cut scenes between levels.

It might just be the estrogen talking but a definite 4/5 rating from me.

I actually really liked this game a lot. I didn't think I would. I thought people were exaggerating when they said this game was so good but it kind of is. I don't normally like puzzle games but this one was really nice.

It is proooooobably best as a phone game though. I would love it on a phone. But it did really well with what it has. They keep it really fresh (most of the time) and give you new gimmicks to play around with that often times dramatically change how you solve the puzzles. The gimmick never overstays its welcome and it's just really nice.

i wouldn't pay 7 dollars for this though. But it was a good game for how simple it was. I just liked it ok

I just couldn't get into this. It starts out really handholdy and boring, and it remains boring throughout. If you're a fan of puzzle gamers you might get a kick out of this, but everything this game does is done better in pretty much any puzzle/match game out there. It basically sacrificed the gameplay over the style, and it really shows after about 5 minutes that it's nothing special.
