Signs of Life Update 0.6

Version 0.6
This update had two objectives, we wanted to make the underground a bit more interesting and we wanted to do some work on general user friendliness features. We've still got a lot of work on our plate before we'll feel like the underground is as interesting as we want it to be, but this should take us a significant step closer. We also added some sweet weapons and gadgets because they're fun to make =D We've fixed all the bugs we're aware of, but I'm sure there are some things we missed, so let us know when you run into issues. We still have a bit more planned for the new Biome, but we didn't want to keep you folks waiting any longer, so expect some new things to trickle in over the next couple weeks.

    • Dart Crawler
    • Crawler Pod
    • Chitinous Spike Wall
    • Chitinous Spike Boss
  • Added a Decoy Hologram throwable gadget that will distract creatures that aren't too mad at you.

  • Added an Explosive Grenade.
  • Added a Trajectory Computer that displays predicted paths for throwable items and arrows.

  • Changed the sprites on the Vintage Mining Suit armor pieces, and renamed them to "Prototype Mining Suit" pieces.

  • Added a portable Iron Grill as a heat source.

  • Added Optical Camo activator gadget.

  • Added Armor Patch mods for armor pieces. You can add any one patch to any armor piece. The patches cannot be removed, but they can be replaced. If you have good ideas for more of these let us know!
    • Carbon Nanotube Mesh - Adds 2% damage resistance to a piece of armor.
    • Ceramic Plate - Adds 5% heat and energy resistance to a piece of armor.
    • Optical Camo - Adds optical camo to a piece of armor. Must be activated with the Optical Camo activator and all armor pieces must have optical camo applied to function.
  • Added 9mm Ricochet Ammo, it is not very helpful...
  • Added a Railgun. Its still way overpowered, but we'll be tweaking it.

  • The Escape Pod now has a built in respawner.

  • Equipment Spoiler: Added an upgraded version of the mining suit, the Mining Suit Mk2. Equip all the pieces of the Prototype Mining Suit to discover the recipes for the pieces.
  • Equipment Spoiler: Added a Chitinous Shield crafted with bits from the new underground boss.

Gameplay Changes
  • You can now switch to a manual item slot mode that lets you drag your items to your hotbar.

  • Added an Auto Pickup option to the settings menu. Automatically picks up items on the ground when you walk over them.

  • The player respawns in the escape pod by default.
  • You can stand in respawners you find and right click it in order to set your respawn point to that respawner.
  • The player now has acceleration and deceleration when moving around.

  • Fall damage calculation changed - fall damage is now potentially much more deadly if you fall for long distances.

  • Added a shield bash
  • Changed Jumpjet behavior to be much more useful
  • Increased growing time of bush saplings.
  • Thrown items no longer stack with existing items in the world.
  • You can now cancel a throw or bow pull by pressing the reload key.
  • Changed controls for throwable items. Left clicking now drops items and you can hold the right mouse button to power up a throw. You can use the scroll wheel to adjust the power of the throw after holding down the right mouse button.
  • Tweaked thrown item physics a bit.
  • Removed Material Printer crafting requirement from: Steel Arrows, Steel Bolts, Jewel Arrows, Jewel Bolts, Explosive Arrows, Rockets and Launcher Grenades.
  • Reduced healing rate of the Regeneration Salve by half.
  • Smelting Furnace now smelts metal twice as fast as the basic smelter.
  • Jewel Arrows and Bolts now travel a bit faster.
  • Jewel Bows and Crossbows have a bit more power.
  • The pale spitting creature's melee attacks now break weak blocks and its spit can corrode away weak blocks.
  • Tweaked creature AI to be a bit more consistent.
  • Mobs should no longer be able to hit players through the wall with melee attacks.
  • Marble Deposits now have a chance to drop anthracite when broken.
  • Tapping the hotbar slot for the active item now holsters it
  • Fall damage is no longer impacted by armor. We likely will add more fall damage reduction foot items rather than have the armor value itself reduce fall damage.
  • The old steel jumpjet has been replaced with the Prototype Mining Suit Jumpjet, which is crafted from a broken one you find in the Pioneer Station. along with the Jumpjet Core that you get from the robot chicken.

Misc Changes
  • Prototype Mining Suit armor pieces are now distributed randomly in bases in the world.
  • Platforms now draw in front of trees and bushes.
  • Increased the max audio volume from 11 to 20.
  • Significantly decreased world generation time.
  • Various performance improvements.
  • Renamed Puncher Plate to Chitinous Plate.

Signs of Life is a sci-fi survival sandbox platformer with a combination of procedurally generated and hand-crafted content. Along the way, you'll be able to craft armor, weapons, gadgets and more to assist you in surviving in an inhospitable environment.

Story

Sensing that an apocalyptic war was imminent, the United Nations executed a last ditch plan to save what they could of the human race. 2 crafts were launched, a massive colony ship called the Hephaestus and a smaller, faster scout ship called the Hermes. The destination was a recently discovered earth-like planet with the potential to harbor life located roughly 18 light years away. The Hermes reached the planet first in order to establish a presence in anticipation of the arrival of the Hephaestus.

4 years later, as the Hephaestus approached its destination a faint signal was detected from a nearby asteroid. Against their better judgement, the crew of the Hephaestus decided to investigate, and in doing so set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to their destruction.

The good news is, you managed to survive by hitching a ride on a small escape pod just in the nick of time. The bad news is, everyone you knew and loved is dead, you have nothing but the clothes on your back, a standard issue multi-function wrist laser and a faulty artificial intelligence companion named AGIS. Oh, and the human race is probably doomed.

Current State of Development

Signs of Life is currently in Alpha. We feel like we've put together a fun, satisfying experience that will allow us to get wider feedback while we complete the rest of the game.

Right now our first priority is making sure that the content we have in-game is as bug-free, balanced, polished and fun as possible based on feedback from you folks. We have a significant prologue/tutorial planned, as well as significant content beyond what is currently playable, so the sooner you get involved the more of an effect you'll have on the final game. We deal in hard science, and in working very closely with our personal science advisor at Sweet Dog Studios, that tends to lead to results.

We are still very much in development, and we would like you to join us in shaping the game from here on out. Your feedback is vital to us, so don't be shy =)

  • Some sound effects are missing, but we are actively working on filling them in.

great start i guess but its only what id say about 1/3 done its got a great start but its too short, too little content and most of the time bland atleast in starbound i can travel to other planets use vehicles create massive buildings and they even have the ability to populate them so for now id say get the latter seeing as i havent seen any kind of update from this team in almost half a year as to whats going on i just have a sinking feeling this is going to get pached together and released as a half finished frainkenstien monster game never being finished

In all honesty, i love playing games on my off time with school and anything thats on steam is great. There are alot of things this particular game has going for it, dynamics of exploration, different sequences of products you can develop, and the assumption that you can develop many different ways to suit our personality throughout it. I know this game is still being developed but i would have thought it would be essential to looking at guides or a mode where you can play the game in a guide to actually understand the fundamentals of what youre actaully doing. For instance, i play for 20 mins looking my character...not really knowing what to do or what was available until i watched some youtube videos. I think developing an actual guide to what this machine does and what it will do for you, levels of exploration in deep underground mining, levels of hazards when pursuing deeper exploration etc. Plus it seems once you go underground, the surface seems to not provide much other than trees...and maybe it should be balanced a little bit. Ill definitely continue playing the game to get better at it but maybe more bases and or guides to upgrading can help. Thanks.

i don't care for it. there is no real tutorial. the movement is really bad. and you are thrown into it. they expect you to know how everything works.

but other than that i havn't found anything else that is annoying, i enjoy the face that i downvoted it before and now the developers made it so i could enjoy the game.

6/10 gameplay 11/10 developer support ;)

Edit: Because the developers helped me with these problems i'll upvote. i don't think the game is good at its current stare. but the developers seem like they care about peoples thoughts. and they helped make the game better to enjoy for me.

perfect! i figured out how to get the multi-pass aswell! (if you want me to tell you, email me at olle@rehnquist.se) and how to upgrade it to level 1, in the [removed for spioling where it is] base.
i greatly recommend this game for people who want a realistic game, (not like my broter, who chickend out, and got dig or die instead).

Awesome game but I end up running out of stuff to do. Just can't have a bad time on it tho, active devs and they really do listen. I wouldn't care if this was a work in progress for the next 10 years as long as they keep adding cool ♥♥♥♥ and more things to fight.

For now... Great potential, however buggy. For example, Items dropped from breaking environment don't get picked up sometimes when playing multiplayer (the item has been picked up on server side, my friend can't see it, but it's still there in my game, on the floor but I can't pick it up, gets annoying after a while, especially since now the planet floor is littered with items I see but can't pick up).

Also not enough content in game, and no updates since december of last year!? (written in May).

Das Spiel ist zum Zeitvertreib wirklich in Ordnung, allerdings finde ich, dass es mehr Potenzial hat. Mit ein zwei Npcs und ein paar nett geschriebenen Missionen die zur vorhandenen Storyline passen, könnte man was richtig langlebiges draus zaubern.
Ist für das Geld einen Blick wert.

It's difficult to review this game as just positive or negative. It's for times like this that we need a "Mixed" button. I don't hate this game, nor do I love it. I'll just judge it as whether or not I'd recommend it. At this point in time, the answer is no, but it mainly comes down to your personal choice and willingness to wait for more content.* I looked online to find out whether I should buy Signs of Life or Starbound. Everywhere I looked, Signs of Life won in a landslide, saying it was more "Signs of Life = Something an adult made. Starbound = a 2 year olds plaything." What I actually saw in playing Signs of Life was more opposite than not, not that I'll go *that* far and say 2-year-olds created this. However, a giant mech chicken? That sounds like something out of old school DragonFable. Also, the conrols are counter-intuitive and it needs controller support (or better mapping). I think I was expecting more from this game. Yes, it's in early access. I'm happy to support a developer. But to find out we can't even go off planet in this game? It's a deal-breaker for me, at least at this point in time. So I guess it boils down to: do you want a game where you can mine and build and explore buildings left by previous inhabitants but not talk to them? Great! Do you want to support a (judging by other reviews) helpful and attentive dev team? Awesome! But that's about all you can do. Personally, I don't think I'll play this game until it gets something I can sink my teeth into. I'm excited to find out what the devs will do with this game, though. It has great potential.

This game has alot of potential and i mean it, at first you probably think that there isnt much at all because there isnt much to see on the surface it just loops but once you start your first mining operation and a couple of days later you realize this game is has alot to offer the creatures are intresting and hostile so you want more but soon things get old you know what the creatures do and how dangerous they are but you get past that and dig soon you hit rock bottom your meg tool and pick is useless you mine for materials untill you get better gems and a new pick thats the great feeling you get and thats progress you find cool new items and you want more thats what i had going on in my sessions its a great game and you should get it its worth it. Ok i suggest that you leave the review and move on because you wont get it if you dont have the game and your not experienced or a veteran anyways heres what i wanna suggest a deadspace mode and aliens(u no xenomorphs),i want gamemodes like arena (you fight to the death using what you can find in a area). zombie survival ? (like dayz or maybe black ops zombies type thing ) . I also would like to suggest humans vs aliens (like alien monsters vs humans and or aliens vs humans).*ATTENTION DEVELOPER*:if you decide to do any of these please dont rush it take your time these are suggestions not requirments decide if you wanna do it and thanks for creating this great game, Oh and please give me feed back i would like it :D

Best stuck in a hole simulator I've ever played.

No, seriously though. I'm downrating the living ♥♥♥♥ out of this game until they fix spike biomes. IT's the stupidest ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥ I've ever seen in a crafting game. Giant invisible holes until you fall down them, infinitely spawning tiny enemies that your sword bounces off and who deal massive chunks of your health with attakcs, plus leave mines everywhere. It took me two RL days to tunnel out, just to ♥♥♥♥ing die anyway and lose everything I had collected.

Sign of Life ist im Grunde genommen ein Terraria- oder Starbound-ähnliches Spiel:

* was heißt, dass man auf einer 2D-Welt nur mit Grundausstattung und wenigen Handwerks-Möglichkeiten startet,
* dann Bäume schlägert, um an Holz zu kommen (und neue anpflanzt), Pflanzen pflückt und sich mit Früchten eindeckt,
* Tiere ihrer Ressourcen wegen "jagt" (und Crawler, weil sie pieksen, wenn man sie berührt/von ihnen berührt wird),
* Plattformen (auch aus Erde!) über Abgründe und in Schächte hinunter als "Leitern" errichtet, ♥♥♥♥eln (this is the totally innocent and common word for "torches" in German, what the heck's wrong with this crazy bad word/profanity filter?!) bastelt + plaziert,
* den Boden einebnet und sich immer wieder auf der Suche nach den wichtigen Erzen hinunterbuddelt,

Es gibt signifikante Unterschiede zu oben genannten "Vorbildern":

* insgesamt spielt sich Signs of Life viel gemütlicher und weniger kampflastig als Terraria und Konsorten
* die Start-Welt ist eben ungefährlicher, Kämpfe sind aber auch nicht so schnell oder "fordernd", (noch?) keine plötzlichen Invasionen oder Riesenbosse, und selbst unterirdisch muss man nicht dauernd sein Leben verteidigen
* Schnelltasten und Inventar-Verwaltung warten mit ganz frischen Ideen auf
* der Look ist weit kreativer (vor allem der Hintergrund) - bis auf die von anderen Menschen ausgesetzten Nutztiere
* das Spiel hat - wie Darkout - einen ausgeprägten SF-Einschlag mit einer lose konstruierten Hintergrund-Story
* es gibt menschliche Basen (auch unterirdisch) als Zielsetzung zu finden... man könnte auch "Story" dazu sagen
* Handwerks-Rezepte werden nacheinander im "Handwerksbuch" sofort dann freigeschaltet, wenn man neue Rohstoffe findet oder nachdem man mal wieder etwas Neues gebastelt hat
* ach ja: man sollte unbedingt einen Blick in das "Projekte"-Fenster werfen! Ein paar Handwerksrezepte wie fürs Lagerfeuer oder den Materie-3D-Drucker stehen nur dort drin und nicht unter den "normalen" Handwerks-Rezepten
* wenn man stirbt, verliert man zwar all sein Zeug bis auf die Grundwerkzeuge, kann es sich aber alles wieder holen (am besten dafür recht bald gute Notfallsausrüstung basteln!), es verschwindet nicht wie in Minecraft nach einer Zeit, Geld gibt's keins zu verlieren, und Gelerntes etc. geht nicht verloren
* das Plazieren von Dingen wie Geräten und Aufnehmen von Behältern samt allem Inhalt ist simpel und praktisch
* der sarkastische Witz des Armbandcomputers ist auch mal wieder was anderes

Was mir sehr positiv aufgefallen ist:

* generell der schöne künsterlische "Look" des Hintergrunds, der Bäume und der unterirdischen Aliens
* auch sind die Sonderfähigkeiten der zu bekämpfenden Untergrundbiester individuell und richtig klasse
* super finde ich, dass man von Bäumen auch nur die Äste abschlagen kann, die dann nachwachsen (Stöcke für ♥♥♥♥eln (torches))
* und dass man (einpflanzbare) Samen von Früchten nur dann erhält, wenn man die Früchte selbst isst
* Früchte zu mampfen beschleunigt jedes Mal die Selbstheilung der Lebenskraft, es gibt aber auch andere Heilmethoden
* das Inventar ist nicht slot- sondern Gesamtgewichts-abhängig, man kann sich zusätzliche Beutel fürs Inventar machen, wo die entsprechenden Funde gleich nach Art einsortiert werden, und man kann wirklich sehr viel mitschleppen (auch richtig große Handwerksgeräte)
* man benötigt keine unterschiedlichen Werkzeuge fürs Holzhacken, Graben und Steine herausschlagen, sondern hat dafür ein praktisches Allzweck-Tool. Jedoch gibt's fürs Gras-Entfernen (für Pflanzenanbau) eine Gartenhacke, ansonsten kann man auch auf graslosen Erdblöcken oberirdisch sofort Samen "werfen" - auch auf mehreren Ebenen übereinander
* wie in Darkout hat man ein tragbares Licht (wrist light), das mit einer Batterie im Equipment gespeist wird (im Moment scheint mir die unerschöpflich zu sein)
* man kann Dinge außer mit dem absolut empfohlenen "auto pick up" (in den Optionen) auch mit einem Gerät auf immer weitere Entfernung (je nach Upgrade) einsammeln
* die Fenster (Inventar, Geräte) können praktischerweise frei am Bildschirm herumverschoben werden, und der Zugriff auf Kisten, Gerätschaften etc. ist über einen angenehm weiten Umkreis möglich
* wie in Planet Explorers kann man beim Handwerk einfach auf Komponenten (rechts-)klicken, um zu deren Rezept zu gelangen
* es benötigt weniger Grind als in vergleichbaren Spielen, um immer bessere Geräte und Ausrüstung zu craften
* das Upgraden verschiedener Tools durch (wie in Diablo) verschmelzbare Juwelen immer höherer Qualität ist nett, und man merkt vor allem beim Abbau-Werkzeug, wie viel schneller und flüssiger das Buddeln jedes Mal wird

zu bedenken:

* die Dinger im Inventar können teils wirklich sehr winzig sein und noch gibt's keine Option zur vergrößerten Darstellung
* es gibt eine Art elektronische Karte, die sich einblenden lässt oder mit dem GPS ansehen lässt - aber, um diese zu erweitern oder zu aktualisieren, muss man seine Umgebung zwischendurch immer wieder scannen
* das Handwerksrezeptbuch kann verflucht lang werden, und die Liste der Kategorien ebenso. Zum Glück gibt's eine Suchfunktion
* die Weiterentwicklung des Spiels lässt sich Zeit, auch wenn das Grundspiel ja schon gut spielbar ist
* die unfassbare Vielfalt von Terraria oder Starbound wird Sign of Life vermutlich nie erreichen, auch wenn es sich durch seine Besonderheiten zweifellos seine eigene persönliche Nische in diesem Genre erobern können wird
* ich persönlich hätte gern eine Option (im übrigen schön, wie viele Steuerungselemente man schon jetzt individualisieren kann, bei anderen Spielen darf man das Jahre nach Release noch immer nicht), um das Seitwärts-Rollen bei zu schnellem Doppelklick auszuschalten
* die Multiplayer-Option hab ich noch nicht getestet

It's difficult to review this game as just positive or negative. It's for times like this that we need a "Mixed" button. I don't hate this game, nor do I love it. I'll just judge it as whether or not I'd recommend it. At this point in time, the answer is no, but it mainly comes down to your personal choice and willingness to wait for more content.* I looked online to find out whether I should buy Signs of Life or Starbound. Everywhere I looked, Signs of Life won in a landslide, saying it was more "Signs of Life = Something an adult made. Starbound = a 2 year olds plaything." What I actually saw in playing Signs of Life was more opposite than not, not that I'll go *that* far and say 2-year-olds created this. However, a giant mech chicken? That sounds like something out of old school DragonFable. Also, the conrols are counter-intuitive and it needs controller support (or better mapping). I think I was expecting more from this game. Yes, it's in early access. I'm happy to support a developer. But to find out we can't even go off planet in this game? It's a deal-breaker for me, at least at this point in time. So I guess it boils down to: do you want a game where you can mine and build and explore buildings left by previous inhabitants but not talk to them? Great! Do you want to support a (judging by other reviews) helpful and attentive dev team? Awesome! But that's about all you can do. Personally, I don't think I'll play this game until it gets something I can sink my teeth into. I'm excited to find out what the devs will do with this game, though. It has great potential.

Awesome game but I end up running out of stuff to do. Just can't have a bad time on it tho, active devs and they really do listen. I wouldn't care if this was a work in progress for the next 10 years as long as they keep adding cool ♥♥♥♥ and more things to fight.

In all honesty, i love playing games on my off time with school and anything thats on steam is great. There are alot of things this particular game has going for it, dynamics of exploration, different sequences of products you can develop, and the assumption that you can develop many different ways to suit our personality throughout it. I know this game is still being developed but i would have thought it would be essential to looking at guides or a mode where you can play the game in a guide to actually understand the fundamentals of what youre actaully doing. For instance, i play for 20 mins looking my character...not really knowing what to do or what was available until i watched some youtube videos. I think developing an actual guide to what this machine does and what it will do for you, levels of exploration in deep underground mining, levels of hazards when pursuing deeper exploration etc. Plus it seems once you go underground, the surface seems to not provide much other than trees...and maybe it should be balanced a little bit. Ill definitely continue playing the game to get better at it but maybe more bases and or guides to upgrading can help. Thanks.

perfect! i figured out how to get the multi-pass aswell! (if you want me to tell you, email me at olle@rehnquist.se) and how to upgrade it to level 1, in the [removed for spioling where it is] base.
i greatly recommend this game for people who want a realistic game, (not like my broter, who chickend out, and got dig or die instead).

Sign of Life ist im Grunde genommen ein Terraria- oder Starbound-ähnliches Spiel:

* was heißt, dass man auf einer 2D-Welt nur mit Grundausstattung und wenigen Handwerks-Möglichkeiten startet,
* dann Bäume schlägert, um an Holz zu kommen (und neue anpflanzt), Pflanzen pflückt und sich mit Früchten eindeckt,
* Tiere ihrer Ressourcen wegen "jagt" (und Crawler, weil sie pieksen, wenn man sie berührt/von ihnen berührt wird),
* Plattformen (auch aus Erde!) über Abgründe und in Schächte hinunter als "Leitern" errichtet, ♥♥♥♥eln (this is the totally innocent and common word for "torches" in German, what the heck's wrong with this crazy bad word/profanity filter?!) bastelt + plaziert,
* den Boden einebnet und sich immer wieder auf der Suche nach den wichtigen Erzen hinunterbuddelt,
* sowie im Untergrund auf Alien-Biester trifft, die auch mal aggressiv sind und deren Ressourcen man schätzen wird

pros
1.nice graphics
2.a nice variety of mobs
3.animations are nice
4.decent combat system acttually requires timing and skill
5.loads of content and still coming
6.you can make a base its fun making one

cons
-long mining and i mean long most of the time you will be mining and hoping you find something
-crafting can be a pain since most icons are tiny and can be annoying when you clicl the wrong menu when trying to craft a stick or something


again this my review and terrairia players will be please for a while not enough content to keep you going for a long time but the devs are cosntantly working on it so expect more content coming from them

This is mostly a cut/paste from a feedback post I made on the discussion boards. Feel it has enough merit to share as a review. Hope you find this helpful:

-Graphics: 10/10
-Audio: 10/10
-AGIS: Epic. (Your trollish landing pod A.I. that is hell bent on shaming you into accepting responsiblity for everything that isn't your fault. He/it is mostly helpful, but offers a great distraction to early game failures. Such as when you get murdered by space goats like a newb.)

-Game Content: So WOW. Much YES. I watched the trailer, looked through the pictures. Hit up the youtubes for a few and still all of that didn't prepare me for the amount of fun and excitment to be had. I'm writing this, and then goiing back to playing I'm having so much damn fun. The ability to transfer my character between worlds is an amazing feature I've enjoyed in other titles, and I am very thankful to have it here too! (Replayability! 10/10)

-UI: Responsive and extremly user friendly. Buttons do what you'd expect them to do. There are also some you didn't think you would need, but are thankful to have! (+10 for being able to move every window!)

-Crafting System: Feels mostly balanced thus far and very easy to use.
The right click to change to a sub crafted item makes this system flawless. No digging for a thing to craft a thing. Just click and AGIS is your uncle you have a new shiney. Little to no tab swapping for detailed crafts. Carry (most of) your crafting stations with you!? (Thats right, smelt ore while slaying aliens in the same mine shaft to craft more ammo to slay more aliens.) Perfect. 10/10

-Inventory Management 100/10. (My inventory OCD is blown away by the work invested to keep my gear/mats/junk orginized and readily available. Bags, boxes, crates, furnature galore. Great work on this system!!!) (!!!!!)

-Progression/pace: After playing titles that have similar systems I started with some understanding of how progressing would no doubt work. I wasn't wrong. Very fluid transition between armor sets. Almost never felt like I was grinding for anything. Just exploring for the underground stations passively gave me the materiels I needed for each upgrade to armor/tools/crafting stations. All while ENJOYING the game. Well done.

The weapon progression did seem to be a bit lacking, but thats only because I refused to waste early mats on ammo and I thought the Leaf Sword was too damn cool looking to replace. Once Steel became an abundant item in my bags, the OP cave clearing began!
(And then I built a Material Printer and learned how to farm for Power Cores. I own my planet now. All aliens have been served eviction notices and I am currently selling mining rights to intersted buyers/fellow crash landers. Alien slave labor packages available to serious investors.)

Tons more to be experienced in this title that I haven't mentioned. Exploring and discovering those features will leave you feeling rewarded and 100% satisfied with your purchase even as an Early Access game. This belongs in your library.

Alright, at the start, really wasn't fond of this game. Felt it was underdeveloped and extremely annoying. Really just thought it was some cheap game trying to make a cheap buck. To be honest, not a great game...yet. The developer(s) seems to really actually care about their and work with the community. I mean, bloody hell, I wrote an angry and rude review yet they actually spoke to me and spoke calmly. The game may not be at it's peak yet, but the developers are working hard to make it something desirable and really step up and communicate with their community. (Hey, maybe they won't have a set play style for a long time then drastically change it like Starbound has...TWICE! tbh these guys would probably ask before butchering an entire play style. gg)

I really like this game, some great crafting potential after mining and exploring. You can craft on the fly mostly which leads to progressive gamelay. Decent Base building, I haven't played much of starbound or terraria, which I guess I'm comparing it to, but it's got so much choice in crafting it's unbelievable! It's been about 8months since I last played and I'm impressed they're still updating it.

I just cannot fathom how this game has so many sterling reviews, when it's really not that great.
While the game is cute, it's tiring to play. Everything is very wonky and steadily becomes a chore. Even picking up items is a punishment of manual labor, down to the last individual apple and rock. The game has much untapped potential, and will surely rise to achieve, but sadly in its current state you're likely to find something similar on a CD tacked to the back of a gaming magazine sleeve titled "101 Demo games" circa 1998.

This in mind, I do not regret having purchased it, and look forward to the future for this title. I hope it lives up to that aforementioned potential.

Well, it's possible some of my issues could simply be a matter of opinion. For me, the wonky side of things would be combat, movement, even the animation can be at times, but the animation is literally part of the charming charisma this game has, and really shouldn't change.
Specifically, swinging 30 times to hit a cornered chicken twice becomes a chore. It's almost easier to kill one that's running from you.
Movement can be a bit annoying but it's difficult to explain this one. This is where I feel it's mostly opinion. Something about movement feels sluggish and lacks that seemless, fast action, quick response range of motion other similar titles have. I typically find myself avoiding situations and instead end up playing more casually.

Chore. I know this is something some people find unqiue about this title, but I myself find it quite frustrating picking up every single apple, rock, and twig, one by one, by one, by one... slowly... spending 5 minutes to claim the tree I just chopped down branch by sometimes-hard-to-spot branch. I know auto pickup is old and done and cliche now, but some systems are still in use today because they work. Quite well. Some may feel this lends a touch of charm to the game, and I understand that. For others, it just won't do. I'm the latter. It's cute at first... gets old VERY fast.
The inventory, while unique and interesting, would make an OCD person set their computer on fire. Even after using the sort button. Personally, I like the inventory, it's fun and new and innovative, but I feel like it's tiny and constricted, sometimes complicated, and perhaps a little overwhelming. Holding a hammer, or placing it on the bench, or having to HAVE a hammer even (which is why most titles would include this type of item as part of the workbench in the art...) all of this type of stuff kind of over complicates an already complicated crafting system, which brings me to the crafting menu, or menus...

The crafting menu is extremely overwhelming. So many tabs, so many lists, so many stuffs.... but in your defense, I can see the careful thought taken into the design for ease of use. Being able to craft the needed materials for a larger recipe by clicking them (such as wood planks, etc)... and honestly there is so much stuff in games like this, crafting is always a tricky system. Other titles even struggle with this as well. It just takes a lot of patience to get used to it. For this game though, I feel like there's no real pipeline in crafting. Right off the escape pod you have like 2 or 3 sets of craftable armor... and they aren't the same. One is clearly the better, and so.... why make the other ones?

My final rant would be the interface layout and usage. it's unqiue for sure, but the very nature of a quickbar is to let the user set it up how they like it, and not make it a Walmart of your inventory. It's great that I can scroll hotbar 1 to get between my iron pickaxe and my wrist laser mining thingy... but add a copper pickaxe that you found and things become... well... a chore.
Same thing goes for hotbar 5. Dirt n ♥♥♥♥. Maybe I don't want dirt on 5? Maybe I don't want sand between my dirt and stone? Sometimes flipping through hotbar slot 5 to get to the right block is like walking through clothes, toys, automotive, electronics, lawn and garden, produce, candy, and finally snack foods to get to the dairy section for that milk you wanted in the first place. Get me? I didn't find a way to change it to, well, any other title setup where I can put my own stuff in the slots. If there exists one, great! If not, there probably should.

All this in mind, you got a thumbs up because this isn't a bad game. It's clearly still being developed and it could get really good as time goes by. It's also great to see a developer actively taking feedback.

Really promising game so far, I will be playing for some time.

That said, time for some c&c

So first the UI is really nice and the hotbar works well, but holy mother of God does it need Lshift clicking or some kind of rapid move thing. Also a search feature for inventory and chests is needed asap.

Please add underwater biome, ice, lava, Sky, planet core, etc.

More monsters needed!

Npcs?

Add a Grappling hook and jet pack energy cost down, even with power core/gem armor it's too expensive.

Why no gem sword? ;-:

Loved the story.

More bosses please. The chicken is ok, but the underground big robot is really bad RN.

Ok final crazy gripe, the bloody mining laser doesn't have an option to auto mine in a grid formation, so you have to spasm your mouse all over after you get it upgraded. Big oversight there.

Ok, for those of you who like this style of game, and are looking for something new, this game has some very fun aspects. The game does bottleneck at the mining restrictions like most of this type so progress is limited to perseverance. It is not quite as good as some of the other titles in the arena, but it has potential to become very interesting. It is worth the price they are asking and defenately worth it if you can find it on sale.

This has to be my favourite game in this genre; if I hadn't had to have taken a 3 month break due to an illness I would have many more hours sunk into the game. I don't have the time right now to write a more detailed review, that is something I will do that in the future, but I wanted to point out a few things I like about the game.
I love the colourful graphics, the storyline, the crafting system. The myriad different items to make or find, the different weapons and armour, the wildlife that sort of feel like a living ecology, the different aggressive creatures, wow the list goes on. As I said, I plan on writing a more in depth review at some point, but for now let me just say, if you like sandbox games with an interesting storyline and great graphics, buy Signs Of Life now!

Best fun i ever had in multiplayer, we both ran away from a giant scary robot chicken of doom after i stupidly shot it with a crossbow

This game is obviously a work in progress and is lacking in some areas noticably the story which sets a damn good background but ends way too soon (Early Access and more due to come later). The crafting system is well thought out and your avatar has a genuine weight behind it which is lacking in other similar titles (looking at you starbound).

Early Access though it may be there is still some content here worthy of the price they are asking (bout £8 at the time of this review) and I can heartily recommend this game if you are a fan of survival, crafting and terrraria/starbound.

So far I don't see much bad to say on this game beside that's its only in alpha for now and therefore have to wait for new content

Pros

-Good animation

-Good graphic style

-Good gameplay

-Just enough story to keep things interesting (more to come)

-Relaxing music while playing

-Dem stupid archievements ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Cons

-Lack of content (because its in alpha, but you are going to sink quite some hours before you think you seen it all)

-Enemy AI mostly shooting in straight line whenever they have ranged weapon, making it easy to defeat most of them

Other info

-When you start, you have a 9mm gun with 1 bullet, a flare gun with some flares, a random auto sorting bag and a GPS beacon in your rescuepod in a container

-No item droped disapear over time and when you die the GPS you carry with you emit a signale visible on your minimap

-The Grinder turn some useless junk into interesting stuff, making grinding less grindy *pun*

-Avoid shaving sheeps at night/dawn/nightfall

This game is really good. The controls are tight and the artwork is very pretty. It's like Edge of Space except this is executed properly. Both games have similar descriptions but 'Signs of Life' has the fundamentals down pat. If you were apprehensive about buying this game because of past disappoints with other games in the genre, don't worry. The Devs are focusing on the right areas for this game's design and will put more of the content in later, as opposed to some other games out there with all the bells and whistles but have artwork that clashes and mushy controls.
