What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Blockstorm Early Access version is a work in progress and therefore many things are going to change
and many others will be added.

We believe that we have built a basis on which develop, following the opinions of the community, the most entertaining first-person shooter based on destructible blocks.

To achieve this objective, Steam Early Access Program is the best choice we could do. We want constant confrontation with community, gathering as much feedback as possible, and improve every aspect of the game thanks to those suggestions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Blockstorm will remain in Early Access development until we feel the community believes Blockstorm is ready for a full release. We don’t have a concrete deadline in mind, but we will get a better sense as the development of the game progresses.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The fully realized Blockstorm will have 5 new online multiplayer game modes in addition to the actual 3, new weapons, new maps, new characters and much more.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently Blockstorm has online multiplayer with classic deathmatch, tema deathmatch and assault modes.
Character Editor and Map editor are also available.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“At this stage of development no one knows how or when. But the price will raise in the future.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We welcome all feedback and views on the Steam Community hub.”

This game is a cross between Minecraft and Counter-Strike, some games that have tried to mimic this formula have failed but not this title. I bought this game before most of the major updates happened but back then the game was completely playable with only minor bugs, but when we asked for more customizability they delivered firstly with the level editor where great maps and stunning levels were made, then came the skin editor which everyone had used for a level of personalisation that could not be achieved by a map. Then the Npc editor where turrets (only npc availiable at the moment) were mass produced for map makers heaven. My Favourite: the equipment editor wich made this game the must have game for anyone who had a nack for making and testing guns on blocks or players.

I have seen this game evolve through its major cycles but I still don't know what is to come next. I recommend this game to anyone after an awesome casual first person shooter.

If the devs see this I congratulate your guys for making this game and its community perfect for the hardcore and the casual gamer alike.

This game is really good :

- You can create your own skins for the character
- You can create your own skins for the weapons
- Much and useful updates not like only a few bugfixes
- Much and easy achievements for the people who want only achievements
- Much fun
- I didn't see bugs or lags while playing the game

BUT :
- Too less weapons
- TOO LESS PLAYERS (only 1 normal server every time i tried to find a match)
- yeah ... that's it i think

So I think this game is really good with an editor for your skins and weapons, it hasn't got lags or bugs and it makes much fun for players who love Minecraft or at least other Block-Games. Yeah ... maybe the low number of players makes this game unplayable BUT indigala (they made this game) work for this game and they add new things like weapons! So from time to time there will be much more players and it makes still fun by creating a skin for your character or weapons. Really much users buy this game to get free games from indigala maybe this is the reason why there are not so much players ... but its not a problem when there is at least 1 server xD

I recommend this game 9,8/10 points!

from place where heaven and hell collide together Indonesia i shall review

this is promising game with demo play that give you taste of the juicy gameplay and nice skin editor(skin editor only for premium member so get going buy this)

remember only skin editor everything are equal so the only difference is only our skill

this game is still early acces but i hope participate in our game extremely fun and awesome because my ping (400~1000) and can still enjoy this game

it's kinda sad when people only play demo with dirt cheap (in my country this cost only Rp 99000 yet another game with same early access cost more roughly twice the amount of what i pay)

it's kinda sad because the server is still low population

thanks for reading pardon myself for bad english lol i hope this helping you guys

So it's finally here! The long awaited game from the people who bring you Indie Gala!

I like block games and I like shooters so this should be right up my alley.

I load the game up and it loads quick and looks cool. I see an option to quick match and I click it. It lets me choose a character and I pick a mean looking centaur! I get sent to a lobby with one other player for this quick match. I wait five minutes and nothing happens. The only button that seems to work on the page is the chat and the quit button. Some quick match!

I trash talk in the chat room and no one responds. I wait another five minutes and finally quit this quick match business and host my own match in a mall! My centaur is dropped into and empty mall for 10 minutes of deathmatch action! No one joins me during the entire ten minutes. I spend the entire time shooting blocks and laying blocks and digging. I try to commit suicide but the game won't let me. The only store in the mall is the Indie Gala Store. I try to shoot out all the letters in the sign but I run out of bullets.

This game actually seems cool if you have buddies to play it with. I might have played it at an off time and I know I played it months after release - but the game is still in Early Access and shouldn't be this dead already.

Only recommended if you can trick other buddies to buy it too and play it with you. Otherwise this is empty mall simulator 2015.

This review is outdated! I may change it some time.

This review is posted on the 16th of december, 2014. Last edited on the 18th of december, 2014.

Because I'm lazy and don't want to make an endless looking tome, I'm just going to structurally give you the pros and cons with sometimes a small explanation.

Pros
✓ A regular amount of guns and other weapons for a, more or less, balanced gameplay (More guns is always better).
✓ The overall gameplay isn't quite boring, there is plenty of action, unless you're playing on a map only available to paid players, because these maps are usually quite big (I'll talk more about this in the Cons section).
✓ Plenty of maps to play on (This also has a negative side).
✓ 4 different game modes (This also has a negative side).
✓ The possibility to create your own characters and maps is a huge plus. Both editors are (in my opinion) very easy to use and have lots of features to work with.
✓ Steam Workshop.
✓ Achievements and statistics.
✓ ... (More will follow)

Cons
✖ Low amount of paid (non-demo) players.
✖ Not being able to play on different maps and gamemodes than the one provided for demo users.
✖ Too many demo users. This is a huge downside for paid players. Demo users can only play on certain demo servers, but these servers are also available for paid players. Because of the low amount of paid players and the high amount of demo players and the fact that demo players can only play on a couple of maps and on 2 out of the 4 gamemodes, what means that the demo servers only provide those maps and just 2 gamemodes, means you'll almost never play on other maps and different gamemodes as a paid player and because of that will not get a full view of the game.
✖ Some maps available for paid players are just too big to play on. You'll hardly get a full lobby when hosting a map that isn't available for demo users, so with a lower amount of players, certain maps are just too big.
✖ People who try to ruin the experience for other players by griefing, with for example, C4, are frequent.
✖ ... (More will follow)

Mixed
✓/✖ This game has a lot to offer for early access. But when buying the game for the scandalous price of 11,99€, the developers don't tell you, you get a game with broken gameplay. The gameplay may not always be boring and have a high amount of action, but that doesn't mean you can properly play. The developers seem to not have learnt anything out of other games: griefing, spawn killing/destroying, panic knifing, too big maps, using a demo, not to introduce new players to the game, but by letting them dominate it, etc.

Is what you get really worth the full price? In my opinion, absolutely not. There are plenty of other games that provide way more for the same or even a lower price than this game.

And yet I recommend it... All the opinions I have brings me on the edge of good and bad.

5.5/10.

So many 'block' styled games have come out on steam. Some have been bad, and some have been meh. THIS game is very well done! I recieved a coupon for it so I thought, meh why not. I had a really fun time! Suprisingly, I haven't seen any chat saying "lel 1v1 me ♥♥♥ ill qwickscope ur cat 420 yolo" yet. One con is that NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE PLAY THIS GAME! I've had a struggle to get into a populated game! I feel that this would be really fun with alot of people or with your friends at a LAN party, etc. I litterally rate this game 10/10, I can see no major faults on the developers part, no in game microtransactions, and great editing assets! This game is a gem in it's genre!

There is something really special about these block games, cant put my finger on it. I just enjoy them ALOT.. :)

Lets start with the good stuff:
Creating maps with the editor is easy and the editor feels powerfull in the right hands. Multiplayer online is super fun. You can create and share / play with your own created characters.

There is no veichles in this game and i dont really miss them either. Why? The maps created are more like close combat or sniper variations aka old COD UO. The difference is ofcourse the gfx style and that you can destroy almost everything on the maps so never expect to be able to hide for to long. :)

The game is created with the community in mind so start creating some cool or funny maps to share. Fun fun fun...

I would recommend that you buy a 4 pack and share with your friends for some fun gaming. And lets help this community to grow, the game really deserves it.

And sadly a tiny tumbs down:
The characters can feel a bit floaty sometimes. Just jump and you will understand. Also a sprint button for quick getaway would be most welcome. The run speed used in current game can be walk speed and run could be done in bursts with energy bar.

((Please note the game is still in early process so this can change))

And yes the score:
GFx 9-10 (Usefull comparisons Minecraft, Guncraft, Murder Miners, Blockland)
Sfx 7-10 (its okay and fits the game)
Music 6-10 (Not much to say, but it fits where it is)
Gameplay 9-10 (SuperEasy creating maps and fun)

I will gladly recommend this game because its super fun online. And who does not like blowing stuff to bits or creating your own maps to play with your friends. (( Get it on 25-50% SALE ))

The community is not large but this is where we can improve. BUY and PLAY :)

[Review Version 3 - 5th March 2015]

Before I start, I wouldn't trust negative reviews that were last edited in 2014, as the game has come a very long way since then! Read on to see why...

Blockstorm is a Unique, Multiplayer, Voxel-Based FPS, with its own style of gameplay that comes with a vast arrange of different easy-to-use editors, to make the game feel like your own. The game is currently in its 'Early Access' stage, but once you try it, you won't be able to tell!

Last year, I bought Blockstorm purely because I wanted to try something of a blocky nature, even though I thought it was just another one of those Minecraft FPS look-a-likes duplicates. In fact, when I first tried the game, I felt like there was something missing. Servers were empty 90% of the time, and I didn't play it that often.

However, I decided to check out its community, after wondering why this game felt like it was dead. Blockstorm's community is very helpful and handy, and I found out the developers respect and cherish their community very much. I decided to stick around, and a couple of weeks later, with the release of the 'demo' version, there came a crowd of unfamiliar faces, and servers started to feel less empty. The demo also allowed players to test the game before they bought it, also increasing the amount of full-version players.

Ghostshark Studios, the hard-working developers, are improving their game all the time, fixing up bugs and adding awesome new features. In terms of update speed, they have released more official updates in the past months than most major companies, not including their daily/weekly bug fixes that are not announced publicly. The game is updating all the time; as we speak!

Talking about updates, Ghostshark usually brings out one major update per month or so, adding a array of interesting features, such as turret editor, in-game levelling system, an extensive leaderboard system, and most recently, gun skin editor and 'castle battle'. 675 gun skins and counting, even though the update only got released under a week ago!

At the current moment, the community is intact, servers are filling up, and updates are coming out faster than ever! Here are some of Blockstorm's nifty features:

- Impressive in-game editors, with powerful tools to match any skill level! Why not create a unique 3d character, a interesting new map, a mighty turret, or even a funky weapon skin!
- Addictive gameplay, that will make you want to play the game again and again!
- Perfectly balanced weapons - each weapon has its pro's and con's!
- Active, friendly community, who collaborate and discuss to create what the game is today!
- Dedicated developers, who update the game frequently and listen to their community unlike no other!
- Quick bug fixes - find a bug? The developers will get onto it right away!
- Cheap, this game should cost much more than you think!

Overall, I recommend this game to everyone and anyone, wether you are the hardcore FPS veteran and looking for a strong clan, to the chilled out, creative player who just wants to create a new trend!

And, if you have already bought the game and haven't played it much or given it a negative review, play it again and realise what you are missing out on; this game is like no other!

A very funny building/shooter in minecraftstyle! I like the Map and Charakter Editors - its for everyone to understand and have a good building system! I hope there will be added some more different Blocks. You can use sniper rifles, rifles, grenades, pistols, etc. You can also use a shovel to digg your own ways throw the levels or make yourself a bunker to defense. There are different Gameplays like Deathmatch, Team-DM, CTF, etc.

I like it an recommend that Game!

This review is for the early access Blockstorm. Sit down and listen to me carry on and allow me bore you to death. :)

Brief Summary

Don't get me wrong, there are many games out there that allow you to build your own maps out of blocks and then allow you and some friends, or some random people to completely lay waste on your map. Although most of them are unfortunately terrible, sometimes due to pay to win with the free to plays, or some just are out there in Early Access floating around trying to grab your money with a game that is only 20% complete. No, this game is not like this. I can easily say that I had fun with this game with the many shenanigans that have happened to both me and my mates. Despite the lack of servers, as the only official servers that aren't empty are demo servers meaning the player will need to host their premium servers to play their maps with other premium members.

Now I'm going to go back for a moment, and trust me I won't take long. This game is fairly limited content wise, there are very little prefabs, however I have noticed that more and more prefab packs are being released in the workshop, which is very good. The weapons are lacking in numbers and the gameplay mechanics can be refined. Again however this game has only been out for a short while, and in my time from when I bought it, I have noticed quite a few interesting changes and additions such as turret editors, new developer made maps (which I really don't care much for as the buzzing workshop community has made.) I really do see much potential for this little, but as this is only gameplay wise, as again the weapons are lacking, some of the animations can be cleaned up and multiple other implementations would be nice.

I actually urge you to buy this then to play the demo as that means the community grows and the developers get more money to kickstart this game from where it is now to a full complete game in no time.

Pros

- It's fun editing and creating maps... then completely annihilating them with friends.
- The workshop community is always at it creating new refreshing and unique maps.
- This game is fairly good for what it's potential may become.
- It's got some pretty fun maps, despite them being on the demo servers.
- Endless creativity, building tunnels, to making massive defense towers it's almost endless with the map maker.

Cons

- It does need a bit more content, however it is still in very early access.
- Unfortunately this game is overrun with demo users... again I urge you to buy this to support the developers.
- It is fairly basic, some new mechanics would go a long way.
