What the developers have to say:

“Hi! We're launching this game in early access because we want all the fans to play the latest and greatest along with us. We'll be rolling out versus mode features first - new levels, worlds, game modes, and costumes. Then later we'll release the final version that includes single player challenge mode! We think this will take at least 2-3 months to complete (estimated May 2014).

On price - we are staying with this price until the end of early access, when all the content is included. The price won't change until then, but we may change it once all the new features are included and we're in final release.

Please be understanding that the early release is not the complete, final version of the game. It may have blemishes here and there, but we're doing this to get you partying sooner! Please let us know how we're doing!”

Content update coming May 20th!

May 15th, 2014

Hey sports fans!

First off, STARWHAL is a sport.

Second, we're coming at you with an update on May 20th!

Since we last chatted, we've had the game featured in some cool places. We were at PAX East in two tournaments: The Omegathon and The Next Level. The players took flopping narwhals VERY seriously, and tons of cool prizes were given! We also demoed the game at Ottawa Comiccon to over 38,000 attendees who needed way more space narwhal combat in their lives! Also, have you heard that we're coming to PS4 and PS3? Check out our new trailer, which includes some new levels coming in this update!

About the Game

The local multi-player space narwhal fighting game that has rocked the internet is finally ready for its big debut in a fully loaded release!

Flop it out with 2-4 players in a retro, epic narwhal battle in space! The heart-piercing action is furious and unrelenting. STARWHAL will change your life.

Inspired by countless couch-gaming gatherings over the decades, we wanted to bring something competitive, creative, and immediately fun to the table. Our original prototype was conceived and developed in 48 hours with focus entirely on these areas. From that came the phenomenon that is STARWHAL.

STARWHAL: Just the Tip is a simulation of dreams in an ocean of the mind.

Features:

  • Cool arenas - smash through glass or duke it out in the spacey ball pit.
  • Many ways to play - Score Attack, Teams, King of the Hill, and more.
  • Computer controlled opponents.
  • Sweet new graphics and sound.
  • Tons of costumes to dress up your player.
  • The same Starwhal you know, just more betterer!

What people are saying:

"If Jacques Cousteau were here, he'd sh*t all over the floor."
- Wiley Wiggins on STARWHAL: Just The Tip

"Get a friend. Play this NOW. I'm laughing so hard"
- Sean "Day[9]" Plott

"This game is awesome"
- Achievement Hunter

"This large hairless intergalactic aquatic mammal simulator will bring out the 'Ooo!', "Aaa!' and 'So CLOSE!' in everyone"
- Ross Kenry O'Donovan (Distinguished Conductor of the Steam Train)

"Starwhal brings bloodthirsty neon space whales into an entirely new dimension, capturing the spirit of local co-op deathmatches like only a neon space whale can. We couldn't recommend it more."
- Polaris

"Hey guys, do you want to play Just the Tip with me?"
"..." *exchange of worried looks*
"It's cool! Let me show it to you!" *faces falling stoic*
Then I loaded up the game and within minutes everyone was screaming, fist bumping, high fiving and cussing each other out.

It's simple and extremely fun. Easy to jump into and easy to compete with anyone else already familiar with the game.

This game is the best local competitve game since Smash Bros on N64. Booze doesn't even need to be consumed for it to be fun. It does make for a good drinking game though.

Truly the Citizen Kane of marine-based mammal space battling games.

Really though, this game is great, arcade fun. Hook it up to the TV and you've got a great party game. It draws you into to a frenetic, fast paced battle royale. The simplicity of the game means that anyone can play it, and go from saying "that looks silly, I'll pass" to "OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS AWESOME" in about 4 seconds (and I'm not saying it looks silly).

The additions that they've added are great. Great variety of arenas, hilarious costumes (Jayne's hat!). And they're planning on adding so much more. Game modes. Single player. All sorts of goodies, it's just going to get better and better!

The gameplay is simply what you see in the trailer and pictures and so far a couple of game modes. If for some bizzare reason you find what is shown above uninteresting then I'd advise staying away as it doesn't offer much else.

Anyway, simply put this game is great, it is simple but unique and a ton of fun to play. The attention to detail that has gone into this game so far makes moving around and jabbing others feel extremely satisfying and fun.

If you're in need of something you and a few friends can play quickly then this is a must have, playing with others is the best way to enjoy this game to its full extent. You can still play alone against AI which is still a blast to play but it isn't quite as good as with others.

Also there are hats... And other cool costumes... You can make a burrito-whal... Why aren't you buying this right now?
