I've never been a fan of adventure games because you often have to be inside the head of the developer in order to solve obscure puzzles that make little logical sense. Aside from The Walking Dead, Broken Sword has always been an exception to that rule. The first two games featured great puzzles, snappy dialogue, and intriguing mysteries. But after an awful third and fourth entry into the series, I was afraid the adventure genre was dead to me.

Then along comes Broken Sword 5: The Serpents Curse. It does away with the horrendous transition to 3D and instead returns to gorgeous 2D backdrops. Back again is the clever dialogue and intriguing but not too obscure puzzles, and it's back one more time for another clever mystery. I really, really cannot reccoemend this game enough. You don't need to have played the others in the series, so it won't hurt to start here. If you love this game, go back and play the first two.

-I opened a skylight with a bottle of diet cola and mints, then used a grappling hook made out of a dust cover and a crowbar to escape a building. 10/10

It is... Broken Sword.
There is not much to say about it. Classy game of point&click. with an solid story and well placed jokes.

9/10 And tonight we gonna party like it's 1969

I loved Broken Sword 1 and 2. Glad they went back to the old graphics for this one. I really enjoyed it, lots of small little puzzles to complete. I got about 6 hours of gameplay out of it and having recently re-played the older games made this game a bit easier. I hope Broken Sword 6 will come out at some point!

It's well done, polished, and brings a lot of nostalgia. But still something is amiss. Puzzles are either too simple, or simply ridiculous and frustrating. Characters don't develop at all. Animation is sometimes teary. In the end, the game is recommended for all fans of BS series, but I'm a bit disappointed.

It's a good old graphic point'n click adventure with all the things that made good old point'n click adventures as good as annoying. I wish there was a neutral button. That's what I'd hit. Since there isn't one, I have to go with the negative evil thing: The bad just outweights the good.

I want slow adventure games to succeed. I really, really do. I love stories. I love characters. I love puzzles. I love getting involved into fantasy stuff. I love... ermm.. slowness in games? The Serpent's Curse managed to drag me into nostalgia, I suppose. And it's very much like its predecessors, almost like a copy. Still, things just don't add up anymore nowadays. It's like the devolpers haven't learned anything since 2006. How long can you drag nostalgia out?

The good:

- It's fairly heavy on story. I'm not at the end yet but still wanna find out about those mysteries
- It has beautifully drawn background graphics

The bad:

- Oh god, the voice acting. Nothing feels natural. I tried three different audio languages and I'm still lost here. In German (1st language), it's like listening to 3rd-graders reciting a play. English audio has hilariously spoken accents everywhere, Even I could hear the fake, and that says something. Finally I tried French and... well scratch that, my French has somehow dissolved over the years. Hopefully you'll get luckier with your audio.

- Holy hell, the puzzles. I forgot how annoying these can be sometimes. You often know EXACTLY what you need to do: Talk to this guy, give him that. Repair the machine using X. But it's never that easy, isn't it? Things have to be complicated. THEY HAVE to be, because point'n click adventure game. Oh man. I'm writing this review from a point in the game where I definitely know that I have to drive a frigging seagull off a lamppost by honking a horn. Problem: I have about 0,5 seconds to make three things at once happen. Even with a guide at hand, I've tried seven times so far. This whole situation is horrible. I hate guides. I don't wanna use them. This game gives me no choice though. I don't wanna run around offering everyone a banana for five hours and hope it'll stick. So, there's that.

Conclusion: This game is heavily outdated and only a thing for hardcore nostalgists. or masochists. Or people who like to google for solutions. Or ones who like to do the same things over and over again.
