I´m a fan of classic shmups, from R-type and Gradius to more obscure japanese titles, but I must say I don´t get this game. And I really tried to like it. Maybe I was expecting something different...
Starting from the user interface, that´s always in the way and has poor gamepad compatibility. I´ve seen arcade/console ports that are more user friendly.
To the weapon system, that's hart to set up, and you end up spending gold in stuff that's not even an actual wapon! The missions are a bit confusing, no middle boss, no level boss? No, you must destroy this or that and good luck finding it!

Yes, I didn´t go past the first level. I was bored to death shooting peas to ramdom space garbage way before I did.

This is a conditional recomendation... I only recommend it on the condition that you are good at hardcore shoot-em-ups... if not, steer clear, because this game is really hard. Once ships start flying out from behind you, (if you suck like me) expect your survival time to be counted in seconds rather than minutes.

There's a fun game here to be sure, but I think only the better shmup players are going to find it. It's got a lot of style and it is a blast when you are actually surviving. I get super mad, and I want to quit playing it because I'm terrible at this style of game, but at the same time, I want to keep playing because it's a cool game.

I would say, if your good at this type of game get it, because you'll have a ton of fun with it. If not, wait until they package it with other games again, or it goes on super sale.

I'm giving this a positive review, because i loved the original. If you’re going to pick this one up, play it on easy first.

If your here for nostalgia, you’re not going to get it - or at least not all at once. This incarnation is much much much (much) more brutal than I remember. On your first play though, expect levels to last up to an hour of small step progression which mostly involves memory rather than skill. This is normal mode I’m talking about. Easy mode ("To fat to die") is far too easy - I'm not crazy enough to even think about considering hard.

There seems to be a lot more emphasis on "strategy" in this one too, whereas before, you could get away with choosing your favourite weapon loadouts, now you're going to be constantly swapping out to meet the level's brutally difficult requirements.
This is an aspect I quite like, as it prevents you spam playing levels for gold for upgrades. Once a level is complete, that’s it for the current play though. What makes this "strategy" is that you can sell anything you buy for exactly the same amount, allowing you to truly explore all the possibilities of seizure-inducing neon-glowing jetting 'n' gunning.

for a stupid if-it-moves-shoot-it-and-if-it-doesn't-shoot-it-anyway, this game is surprisingly challenging. there's no single winning combination of weapons that you can use to just sit back and nuke the sprites to bits - every level needs a tune up.
Fortunately, there's a LOT of customization to be done on your aircraft; and the weapon manufacturers are using brutal commercials to tease you into buying their wares. You can sell stuff at 100% buy price which makes trying out a new loadout free - and that's good because you WILL be trying out new weapons to get past that level that just doesn't seem to work.
The visuals are appropriately unappropriate, but apparently there's a checkbox to disable the astronaut fragments. enabling that should be an achievement because nobody ever will.
Sound is awesome. Loud, Harsh, Violent, Repetetive; guaranteed to twist the spouse's panties within 10 minutes. The music OMG such an earworm.

never did so much thinking in a shmup. 9/10 would shoot again.

NOPE... I'm done...

I really wanted to like this game. And I think I would have if it wasn't so bloody unfair and frustrating. It's not that it's just difficult. The problem is that the difficulty comes from very cheap and poorly indicated enemy movements. You may be a few minutes into the level only to die in a mere second from an enemy flying from behind your back and coliding with you, forcing you to restart. There are checkpoints, but they are rather scarce. And unlike many proper bullet hells, here there's so much going on on the screen, with stuff coming from all directions, that dodging everything is impossible. You may take some hits, but once you collide with something your health drops drastically.

It's sad, because everything else is great. The graphics, the sound effects, the soundtrack, tons of customization and a nice upgrade system. It would have been great, but the difficulty simply kills all the enjoyment. And I really hate when games rely on memorization through repetition to even beat a level.

I'd say that if you've got the patience to repeat the same level segments over and over only to get them right after tons of deaths, and the overall style of J'n'G appeals to you, then you could consider the purchase. However if you just wanted a shmup that's accessible and fair, easy to get into, but difficult to master, then look elsewhere, cause this one is difficult to get into...

It´s 2D, it´s side-scrolling, it´s hard!

This classic space-shooter brings the arcade days to the present. Shoot everything that gets in your way, before it shoots you. Configure your ship and loadouts between levels, pick up hitchhikers, save the galaxy! Lots of gore and ironic sidekicks. The game has a steep learning curve and is not easy to beat. Recommended.

Jets'n'Guns is a Shoot Em Up, also called a 2D sidescrolling space shooter. I have spent at least 200 hours playing this game by myself/ when I was younger and I instantly bought this game on steam.

There's an insane number of weapons to buy, you can level them up, you can purchase upgrades for your ship, pick a combination of weapons you like depending on your playstyle. There's also a good selection of bombs and missiles.

The music is amazing ( 30+ soundtracks from Machinae Supremacy, an amazing Sid Metal band, ) the replayability is good, they added achievements, trading cards, some tweaks and it works on 1920x1080 resolution. I recommend buying this game in a heartbeat if you liked any kind of space shooters because it's always been my favorite one and you will definately like it.

After playing for an hour or so, I can tell it's just as good as I remember it, but, I also used to play on easy and I just tried hard, way too hard for me, normal offers me a fair challenge and the game is very enjoyable. :)

Ahh, the best damn side-scroller shump I've ever played.

Tons of levels, tons of weapons, awesome soundtrack and just plain fun! Almost every level you beat will unlock another gun, missile or bomb to try out! All the weapons can be upgraded to do more damage, have a larger spread and just look more awesome! There are space missions, missions where bombs are a must to clear out land enemies, missions where you fly in a jetpack with 2 giant guns strapped to it... lol

There are secret ships, levels and weapons to find too!

A lot of the ships have different powerups they can get and weapon slots... for example one ship might have 3 forward weapon slots and a bomb slot whereas another ship might have 2 forward slots, one rear slot and missile AND bomb slot. All ships have different hull integrity, heat sink and agility so that further sets them a part! Gotta choose the right ship for the mission!

Man, its freakin awesome so don't let the older graphics turn you away! Its a glorious high-action explosive game!

One my favourite highly customizable shmups from several years ago on Steam? YES PLEASE! Time has not aged this beast too badly at all. It still looks good, throws out the challenge, and the soundtrack is as kicking as ever thanks to Machinae Supremacy bringing some hard-♥♥♥ rock-metal into the mix.

I originally played Jets'n'Guns years ago, and had an absolute blast. However I never actually paid for the game.

Finally, years later it is released on Steam and it's just as awesome as when it originally came out.

Jets 'n' Guns is a fantastic space side scrolling shooter, with heaps of equipment to buy and loads of upgrades. The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic and very fitting.

My favorite part about J'n'G is being able to try countless configurations on the ships to see which combination will help me finally finish my current level. When you buy an item you can always sell it back for the buying value, so you are never restricted to what combinations you want to attempt.

This is an intense retro shooter with a crazy amount of replayability, don't miss this one out!
