About This Game

Call of Duty® delivers the gritty realism and cinematic intensity of World War II's epic battlefield moments like never before - through the eyes of citizen soldiers and unsung heroes from an alliance of countries who together helped shape the course of modern history.

Play through the chaos of battle as part of a well-trained squad, that lays down covering fire and pulls its wounded to safety. In addition to authentic squad movements and tactics, each soldier's distinct personality and training comes out on the battlefield.

No one soldier or nation single-handedly won the war. For the first time, Call of Duty® captures the war from multiple perspectives, through the eyes of American, British and Russian soldiers. Battle through 24 missions spanning 4 interconnected historical campaigns. Take on mission objectives ranging from sabotage and all-out assault to stealth, vehicle combat and rescue. Authentic weapons, locations, vehicles and sounds of war all contribute to the realism, immersing you in the most intense World War II experience yet.

Im admittedly new to PC games and downloading Steam. Ok lets start off I love this genre of single player games, I haven't as of yet got into the multi-player thing, that said I bought this COD,COD 2 and COD world at war, and it included United Offense. Ok the good, COD world at war and COD 2 played like a charm on my PC. now the bad COD played all the way up till Stalingrad and that was it for some reason, it would play the boat sequence, but I couldnt control my player and as a result during the Stuka Strafing run I had no control and was just killed I shut it down I reloaded, same result, I dont know why I couldnt stand , jump , crawl, nothing, and as for United Offensive, plainly and simply dont work ,does not work, I have windows 10, a brand new gaming PC, it flat out doesnt work, So its COD warchest is a mixed bag, I just picked up COD 3 on XBox 360 for like $5.00 USED. Mixed rating due to things not working other than the parts that worked are great

I did not know about the hype of this franchise til now. I admit i missed out. This game was truely enjoyable to play. With a good sound system the atmosphere was realistic indeed. Great game. There were a couple of glitches where I could not move or got stuck but thats expected in all games, otherwise highly recommended.

Played this game pretty much from late 2009 till 2015ish(accumulated more than 5000 hours on this game..), was 1 of the best multiplayer games out there (also competitively scrims, pcw's, clanbase, tournaments hosted by the community etc) unfortunately it died when xfire died (when it wasnt a tournament thingy). Most of the people moved on to CS:GO or quitted. Not sure about multiplayer at this moment probably just 1 server left im afraid :(.

NONETHELESS I LOVED THIS GAME, if you can give it a try.
Also enjoyed the singleplayer back then it's actually really good!

Purchased and downloaded the Warchest through Steam. Neither Call of Duty 1 nor United Offensive will play in the correct Screen Resolution. Found a work around to edit the config file in the forums. Modified the config to read the same as all my other C.O.D. games that work perfectly. Despite them making it sound really easy to apply, it doesn't work. Extremely dissapointed I paid for games I can't play. Even if I delete them, I can't figure out if Steam will let me re-download them. There's a simple and easy solution to all this...THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST WORKED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

Very different than the future CODs
When i played the SP it was very different than the other CODs i've played and it almost feels like a different game altogether and the story teaches you a lot more about WW2 and the hard times soldiers had to go through.
A downside to this game is that there is no ranked multiplayer and you can only play with friends who also have the game but i guess that can be excused for it is a 2003 release.

To conclude, if you want to play a good PC game and maybe not have a very powerful computer to run 'newer' games or just want to re-live old memories from playing past CODs this one's definetly for you.

Frustrating single player with infinitely respawning enemies that throw a lot of grenades. No HP regen, grind and grind away. Multiplayer community is expert level and hard to break into without many deaths. Best COD ever

This is it, the first call of duty, and it was great then, and its still great now, pretty much. Ok where to start? well I really want to go over single player first. I bought the game for really for single player but you can still find server's sometimes. You start of in US army basic training. and cap. Foly shows your some old propaganda signs that look better then half the graphics in *insert newest call of duty here*. you then run the trainig corse and crawl under live fire. and do not forget what happed to private Bell, he did not keep his head down. then its wepons training. Your first taste of battle is d-day. as private Martin, you land in france and act as a path finder. over all the american missons are great as all the missons, but its the russian missons we talk about the most. There are car chase's and secret missons and mass attacks, and its all more realistic then QTE gubbins and granade spam. For full price it might be worth it but I know it was for me, its up to you to choose. It runs great and I do not think it has ever crashed. I play it on windows 8.1. this game is a masterpiace and all you really need to do is play up to call of duty 4 or world at war, then stop.

It was really nice to finally be able to play the game that started it all, and its aged pretty well. A few nitpicks here or there about some bad checkpoints and padding out the game length with the "Survive for 5 minutes" missions but otherwise I really enjoyed the 5 hour campaign. It was simple, short, and fun. In terms of the Steam port heres the info:

- 4:3 the only aspect ratio available (Widescreen mods are available, check the guides tab)

- Multiplayer is pretty much dead (Still has some modded servers up but if you're trying to play the vanilla game you'll need friends)

- No achievements (360 port got these in the 2009 version, could have been added in)

Otherwise great game and would definately recommend for $10 or less.

This game is great I miss the old days when the COD people made WW2 games.

The graphics aren't great but who cares it's one of the best CODs I ever played, I highly recomend it!

Also why isn't Call Of Duty 3 on here for purchase?

If you're looking for a nostalgia trip, or you're of the younger generation and looking to see where one of todays largest franchise started, and yes it may not have the best graphics, or the best AI (i could go on about what it doesn't have compared to todays games, but i won't.) but what it does have is so of the best graphics, AI, moustaches etc from the late 1990's, this was great back then and it is still now, i remember playing this back when i was young, althrough I was too young and too stupid to finish it, i had fun and having played it now just brings it all back. I mean AI may not be smart, but they will punish you even on the easier levels if you're not paying attention, and the non-regening health adds to that. So if you have a couple dollars to throw around and no other game to play, I recommend you to buy it.

This game started the Call of Duty franchise! This is probably the second best game of the entire franchise. It looks horrible, but the story and immersion are amazing! On the hardest difficulty, the AI is intelligent, though ammo still remains to be manufactured out of thin air...

The voice acting and story alone are good reasons to get the game. The presentation is fairly accurate compared to the real WWII! Highly recommended if you are looking for a great classic!

- Made for CRT monitors so you will need to fiddle with your resolution setting
- Multiplayer almost dead (officially if you are Australian like me)
- If you have friends you could still enjoy multiplayer
- Singleplayer is a classic -> very fun

Overall, would still recommend buying this game, especially given how old it is.
