“It’s clear that the creators are striving for atmosphere above all else. The locations themselves all feel grounded and part of the world and optional extras like newspaper cuttings and even usable computers add more pieces to the puzzle”

About This Game

Estranged tells the story of a lone fisherman, whose ship is stranded on a mysterious island during a violent storm.

Explore the rich environments and meet the curious inhabitants of the island as you find a way back to the mainland. Face both danger and intrigue in this perilous adventure, where you will soon find that not everything is as normal as it seems.

Features

Original Gameplay and Story - The game features around an hour of story driven gameplay. It includes a completely original cast, with a carefully crafted script to bring the Estranged world to life.

Amazing Graphics - Estranged is built on the same engine Half-Life 2 runs, with some additional features. We have extended the dynamic lighting system to allow us to illuminate our levels in a realistic manner, and have included effects such as film grain and lens flare to help create the atmosphere for the game.

Original Soundtrack - The soundtrack was written especially for Estranged, and was designed alongside the game's levels. The music matches gameplay, and helps to bring together the atmosphere in Estranged to bring the story to life.

Please note: This game uses some assets from Half-Life: 2. The two worlds are unrelated, and Estranged is not associated with the Half-Life franchise or Valve Corporation.

I hadn't even heard of this game until yesterday, but even at just two hours long I can safely say this is one of the most immersive games I've ever played. True horror doesn't come from jump-scares or gore, but from well-crafted in-engine storytelling characterized by the world you inhabit. Even the games that get this right such as Bioshock and Metro pale in comparison to Estranged when it comes to hitting that nail on the head; this is right up there with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. A game so engrossingly atmospheric and raw that it could have only come from a modding community. This is the prodigal child of PC gaming.

Kudos to Alan Edwardes for producing a great little mod that’s both polished and enjoyable. The source engine has been used well to create a good-looking game that ran without a glitch except for one problem with an achievement which I managed to fix but was a little annoying. The voice acting is pretty good. The mix of simple problem solving and combat is just right, giving the game a nice balanced feel. Overall this is a fun way to spend a few hours and it’s free, so what more could you want? 4.5/5

Hi!

This mod is absolutley amazing! I was into the story right from the start and i was really schocked on my first encounter with ... the Zombies?! Infected?! I don't know.

All i know is: This mod for the famous Half Life 2 is really great from the leveldesign side but also the sound (especially the voice overs for the charaters) are really really great and are helping to create the right setting of emotion to stay in the storyboard.

Due to the fact that this modification is called Estranged Act I ... I can't wait for the seconds part. Don't let this awesome cliffhanger at the end waste away!

The is probably great it looks good but I downloaded this one to play on Oculus Rift DK2.
While it certainly looks convincing and I did feel as thou I was in the game the feeling of motion sickness quickly comes,
I lasted as far as the 1st building then had to take my headset off so 5-6mins max.
:*( shame I also get this with HL2 as well so I guess its to be expected that this would do this.

If you dont Intend to play in VR or are not subject to motion sickness with HL2 in VR then sure why the hell not It looks very interesting and based on that I do recomend it.

Amazing, the game is very atmospheric and is very difficult. Zombies come at suprising times, and ammo is very scarce, making it the perfect HL2 mod when it comes to survival-horror. The graphics look very improved with Depth of Field, Lens Flare, Film Grain, and more! This is very much like a L4D version of HL2, but more about survival than guns ablazing. The one thing that ticks me off though is the terrible voice acting, seriously. It feels really loud and as if the person is giggling a bit at the script while he's speaking.

The game does have potential, but its boring. With more work the game could be a pretty good play through.

A suprisingly good source mod that actually kept me playing till the very end. The game looks nice, controls well, customizable options, original music and some pretty good voice acting. Can't wait for Act II!

Dignity:
1. Fast and very easy 100% achievements. < 2 hours are possible.
2. Free game.

Shortcomings:
1. Full half-life 2 gameplay. Always unclear what need to do, where to go and why it should be. Absolutely no any navigation.
2. Boring corridor gameplay. Also need to carry a bucket during all game like similar to gnome at half-life 2 (for achievement).
3. Poor graphics and animation of kills characters. Near 2007 year.
4. English voice. Text in Russian only.

Conclusion: if you interested at achievements - try it,
if you are do not need achievements and hate world of half-life style - never run it...

Great HL2 Mod, they use alot of the assets from HL2 which i believe is keeping them from selling this,

Works great in VR, as with everything else, VR makes it 100x better.

Its kinda buggy, not Triple A stuff but i honestly prefer B budget games, they have more heart.

If you're a fan of the Half Life Series, you should definitely try this one out, its awesome. They created some beatiful locations with the Source Engine. The lighting looks great. It has a strong intro, fun gameplay, easy but challenging puzzles, also ITS FREE TO PLAY! :D. The Developers who created this game deserves a lot credit, for they have created a world that is mysterious and interesting, I can't wait to come back to this world in Act 2! :D
