About This Game

One fine day, Eryi went to eat the melon that she had been SO looking forward to... but it was nowhere to be found! Then she noticed a note on the table. She picked it up and read: "Your melon looked delicious, so I took it. From Farta X"
Fuming with rage, Eryi set out from her house to get her melon back from Farta.

Eryi's Action is a 2D ‘trapformer’ by developer Xtal Sword that is visually inspired by Super Mario, but has gameplay akin to games like I Wanna Be the Guy. Don’t be fooled by its adorably charming looks – this game abounds in traps and wants you to die! However, where IWBTG was murderously difficult, Eryi's Action is additively challenging and FUN!
Trap placement is often laugh-out-loud funny and seriously engaging. Some traps simply need to be learned to avoided, but others are puzzles that will require your skill and wits to beat. Either way, Eryi’s action delivers laughs, frustrating and satisfaction & all for just $4.99!

Features:
  • 12 action-packed stages & boss fights!
  • Adorably charming world & characters!
  • Fiendishly cunning traps!
  • It’s okay to fail! Autosave has your back!
  • FUN! You'll die a lot, but you WILL go back for more!
  • 32 achievements!

Okay I'm not going to wright a long paragraph about this game because I know no one is going to read it all but to sum it up really quicky... it's very bad. Only thing good about it is it's cute, colourful and kind of good music? Look if your looking for a "fun" rage/hard platformer game then your better off buying "They Bleed Pixels" it's the cute hardcore platformer, The type of game your most likely looking for. Well if your still reading this I'm guessing your still thinking of getting this game. Let me sum up the negative points:

-Horrible Settings (how do you ♥♥♥♥ up settings?)
-Annoying controls
-Bad Hitboxs
-100% about repetition and memorisation.
-Lame comedy.
-Ugly graphics.
-Next to no Controller Support
-Feels unfinished.
-And Just no fun.

I feel this game whould be 90% better if there was more time put into, it really does feel rushed. Maybe if the devs updated this game with nicer looking graphics, Better levels and less cheep deaths then it whould be worth $4.99 bucks. (6.66 in Australia... insert Satan joke here) Anyways this game got made in 2013 so I don't see any update coming ever so you better off just playing "They Bleed Pixels" or just a fash game, because that's what this feels like. A quickly made fash game. (Also maybe think about buying "Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight" and "Shantae and the Pirate's Curse" if you want a cute platformer with a female protagonist)

Played this game for almost 4 hours.

Tried my best to memorize patterns of every obsticle.

Wanted to rage quit hundreds of times.

Perservered do to unwillingness to let the game beat me.

Finally accommplished what I thought I would never do.

Made it out of my house.

10/10 would die again.

The game clearly finds itself funny but I just don't find it fun in the slightest. The game is 100% about repetition and memorisation and the result is extremely boring. The controls are pretty poor overall, instead of separating accept/jump and cancel/run, the game decides to throw them together with the defaults being that menus make sense but then you're tapping B to jump, not great. You can change them so that game controls instead of the main menu ones make sense but the menu for doing so and it's possible to break the game, making it imposible to get back into the options menu.

The main thing that bugs me is there is no d-pad support for control pads. You're stuck using an analogue stick and that just does not work well for a game like this where the hitboxes for everything are so bad that being off even slightly means certain death. I also found the controls fairly unresponsive as far as jumping goes which means around a little over a fifth of my jumps just will not register. Not good for a game as tedious as this.

The enemies I saw were pretty boring with bad hit boxes, the game doesn't do trial and error or rely on the slightest bit of skill. If you can remember what happened 5 seconds ago and can push a button then that is all you will need. Quite disappointing for me as I was expecting a fun, challenging platformer. Instead I got the template the worst Super Mario Maker levels use.

I'm not entirely sure but I believe I got this game in a bundle. That is the only way I could recommend picking this game up. You would be better served playing the likes of Cloudberry Kingdom which features shared screen, local co-op and is up front about the hazards within each level.

This game is absolutely evil. Everything in this game is out to get you... EVERYTHING, and I absolutely love it. The characters, sound and the overall environment is absolutely adorable while the game is rather difficult. It's the type of game that trolls you with every step. You will walk, die then go back and knowing how you died, find a solution to the problem... only to realize they thought of your solution and that is in itself another death. It really is a puzzle game that uses your death as a method of problem solving, looking for creative ways to find a solution. I may only be 30 minutes in currently but I already adore this game. Just go in prepared that it's going to be an absolute cheap troll to you and treat it more as a puzzle game then a platformer. Well worth the $2.50 I paid for it on Steam sale (normally $5). Be warned the controls are a little odd as they use arrows and Z, X, C which from what I hear is more of a Japanese standard but I believe controllers will work.

Don't be fooled, this game is as manly as Metal Slug and Contra combined. Your melon-shaped protein and steroids were stolen so now you're gonna unleash the roid-rage at every living and non living unlucky enough to cross you. You'll die hundreds of times but it won't matter, nothing can stop you when you're this pent up. You're so strung out that death phases you for a mere brief repose before you continue tearing a trench through every inch of terrain in between you and the promise of giant burly muscles contained in your melon.

10/10, would laugh at death a hundred more times in order to get big.

I'd recommend this game to anyone who doesn't feel that every game must be beatable for the first time without dying. Because, that's just not what Eryi's Action is all about.

Before you buy / play this game, you should know what you're getting into.

This is a troll puzzle / platformer. It will kill you as most traps you don't see coming until they're sprung on you, and then you need to figure out a way past them. Most of the time, this is easy. Sometimes, the solutions could stomp you for a while - I ended up using a walkthrough to get past a few traps.

That said, I found this game quite fun, and the traps funny the first time they killed me. Afterwards, I'd laugh at myself for falling for the same traps over and over after forgetting they're there, while I'd hurry from the checkpoint to the latest revealed trap.

My favorite traps are the multistage ones, where you think you have a way past them, but that just springs another trap :)

P.S. This game is *not* one of those "tough as nails platformers." Some parts are moderately hard, yes, but nothing close to what's required in the likes of Super Meat Boy, They Bleed Pixels, Electronic Super Joy, or Gianna Sisters.

This game is evil. It seems to sense when you let your guard down or have come to expect something and then laughs as it springs another clever trap to take yet another life away.

I have no doubt that there is a devious form of artificial intelligence built into every single copy and programmed with the sole motivation of crushing you. It is clearly rewarded with every successful trap as there is no doubt that this game, this evil force, this new form of life(?), is gaining great delight at your every failure and soul crushing death.

I used to think platformers were the one thing I understood. I understand nothing! Up is Left and watch out, cause Down, Down took off and in its place now is Right, Left took Rights place and now I don't know how to climb a ladder!

Play this game, or rather give this game a chance to play you, either way you will almost certainly enjoy it as long as you go in understanding that you are about to be the beaten down, confused, tricked and just when you think its over, just when the goal is in reach, only one step away, you will be afraid to take that step, you will know by then that this game, this evil entity, this surreal and dark form of artificial intelligence is absolutely and without a doubt, out to get you. It's waiting for you to take that step and you realize you can't wait to see what the hell is going to happen next, so you do.

Awesome game!
