The start is a little slow, but once you give the game a chance, it picks up and grabs your attention. I love everything about it!... The artwork, the music, the story line...

But there's a little problem.
96% of the way through, there's a glitch in the game. There is a pillar shaped room. On each side there are 3 levels, each pouring lava to the ones below. You start at the top and slowly block the lava flow to the very bottom of this particular area of the map. Once you've reached the bottom two, the lava below is supposed to drop so you can gain access to the once hidden chamber. In my case in particular, this did not happen. After I had finished the last two, the cut scene showed the fiery liquid dropping to reveal, of course, another hidden level. When the scene ended, I jumped down. Obviously I'd expected there to be solid ground below, but instead was greeted by immediate incineration.

I've since been searching for a patch to be released, so I may finally beat the game without having to play it through all over again... Which I would love to do, but if I'm to encounter the same problem, I would be even more disappointed than I am now. Especially considering I've already put so much time and effort into reaching this point.

Would definitely recommend, seeing as I'm sure this is only an issue for the spare few, but I would like to make it known that overall, I'm extremely unhappy with the current result of time spent.

Most satisfying 2D platformer I've played in a while.
Controls are fluid and fast-paced (I used an Xbox 360 controller); Close to the end of the game, triple jumps, charged jumps and glide makes the entire world very fun to explore (so many collectables and "hidden rooms"!). Combat can get slightly stale because of repetition.

Breath-taking scenery throughout the game, amazing soundtrack and huge effort put into sfx. The actual platforming aspect gradually gets punishing as the game progresses ("this is cool" to "♥♥♥♥ this. ♥♥♥♥ me."), and manages to keep every area unique and fresh. After acquiring new skills you can revisit past areas to go through passages you previously couldn't enter. However my only complaint is not being able to re-visit one area, which killed my hopes and dream of wanting to 100% in the first run.

The actual narrative of the game is simplistic, but unfolds enough to tug on your heartstrings. You do you, Stitch.

Ori and the Blind Forest, easily became one of my all time favorite games.

10/10

Worth the price?: Should cost as much as a AAA game at $59.99, the price is a steal

PROS:
-One of the most beautiful games out there
-I cried more then once
-Smooth as butter game play
-Tons of diversity, game is very fresh
-OH LORD THE SOUNDTRACK
-So good its hard to imagine its indie

CON:
-I won't find a game nearly this good in a very long time

Everything about this game is breathtaking, this version is no longer available and I am so close to buying the definitive edition just to experience it all over again with the bonus of the newly added content. You are making a mistake if you pass this game up. Play it, then make your mom play it, get your girlfriend to play it then marry her and pass the experience down to your kids, this game should become a family heirloom. I will always love you Ori and I will never forget you.

Ori and the Blind Forest is truly breathtaking. The visuals are beautiful, and it controls like a dream. The music is some of the best i've heard in a video game. This game will be remembered for a long time, and I must say it is now one of my favorite games.

****TL;DR AVAILABLE BELOW****

Ori and The Blind Forest is perhaps the Best Indie Game i've ever played. The first time I started this game, I was blown right away by the Main Menu art and the background score and I knew it that it would keep me hooked until the end, and it did.

This Game is not your regular Indie game as it's quite challenging, perfect for me but some casual players may find it difficult because this game severely punishes you for your mistakes. Initially it took me a while to get used to the controls as you cannot remap them, it's not a big deal but it would be great if we could.

The Visuals are breathtaking as you will just stop by and gape at the gorgeous art for minutes. The Audio department did a great job in making the high quality sounds, even minute sounds can be heard clearly. You may get frustrated in certain parts but it's the beautiful sountracks that encourages and keeps you going, and thats an important aspect of a game. They are so beautiful that you just wanna die in peace listening to them. The Dialogues are mystically unique, they don't actually make any sense but they sound so cool. The letdown is that they reused most of the same dialogues in some scenes.

Coming to the story, its very emotional and may make you cry easy peasy. Its not complex as The Walking Dead or something but its a Heart touching story. I hate to admit this but tears came to my eyes at the ending, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.

So yeah, every aspect of the game is damn-near perfect. Do yourself a favor and get this Masterpiece, it's worth every penny.

TL;DR:

Pros:
  • Fluid Gameplay
  • Heart touching Story
  • Breathtaking Visuals
  • Cool Dialogues
  • Beautiful level design
  • Animation variety
  • Amazing Soundtracks by Gareth Coker
Cons:
  • Reused Dialogues
  • Cannot remap controls
  • Maybe too difficult for some?
  • Can't return to some areas
  • Glitchy Leaderboard
  • Bash Skill control using Keyboard

Simply put, it's a Masterpiece

This game is only the second game I have ever actually completed in a long line of games and I absolutely loved every moment of it! Even those moments when I wanted to tear my hair out with frustration were made worthwhile and made me feel so accomplished once I'd completed the level. And with 10 game save slots, I'll definetely be playing this again and again!!

awesome graphics and music, fun game play as well. Tho there are the occasional bugs, which nonetheless can be resolved quickly using one of the online scripts to bring you out of the unintentional level traps.

By far one of the most beautiful games I have played in a long time. The environments are all so breath taking, and I absolutely adore each character. The story, while rather simplistic at first ended up having a dark turn towards the end of the game that gave me goosebumps when I encountered it. The downside is, I feel like this is the kind of game you can really enjoy once. There isn't much of an exploration element to this game which is rather sad. I would have loved to have had free range in this game to explore more of the landscape. Nonetheless, this is still a wonderful game that I highly recommend players to try!

I kept putting off buying this game over and over again. Then it went on sale and I said "eh why not". One of the best purchases I've made, and would have been well worth the full price. Game is beautifully put together from start to finish. The music, game play, art style, the story, everything. It's just an amazing experience from start to finish. I cant' wait to explore the new content that was just released.

Ori and the Blind Forest is an amazing Metroidvania game with fluid gameplay, incredible music and fantastic graphics. If you like platformers, you owe it to yourself to play this game. The charming story draws you in, and you stay for the great gameplay, visuals and music. Sure, the story is simplistic, but it's still powerful and very well done. All in all, I give this game 10/10.
