About This Game

-Winner of Best Character from Adventuregamers.com as well as 10 of their Readers Choice awards including Best Story and Best Adventure of 2014.

Tex Murphy wakes up – disoriented and head pounding – on the fire escape outside his office atop the Ritz Hotel. Another typical morning for the last of the old-school detectives. Except it isn’t. What starts out as the worst hangover in history becomes a baffling nightmare: something – or someone – has erased Tex’s memory of the past seven years. Motivated by lost love, revenge and the world’s strongest coffee blend, Tex must retrace his own steps into a maze of unsolved murders, hidden agendas and lost technologies of Nikola Tesla. Only by solving the mysteries of his past can Tex hope to regain his memory in time to restore what’s been lost…and stop a terrifying future.

Tex Murphy will finally be back in 2014 after leaving loyal fans on a cliffhanger for almost 16 years, so come get acquainted in a world filled with dangerous dames, morally ambiguous characters, and lots of mysteries to be solved.

Tesla Effect upgrades the classic Tex Murphy experience with HD live-action -- that's right, for those of you not old enough to have played adventure games in the 90s, Tex Murphy embraces the lost art of green screen full-motion video as it interacts with fully modeled 3D environments. Players will be challenged with logic puzzles, interactive dialogue, branching storylines, and alternate endings.

Tesla Effect shines with an eclectic cast of actors, including:
• Todd Bridges (Willis from Diff'rent Strokes...ask someone older if you don't know what that is)
• June "TV's Greatest Mom" Lockhart (ask someone even older if you don't know who that is)
• Larry "Soup Nazi" Thomas (you all have seen Seinfeld, right?)
• Kevin "Tom Servo" Murphy (Mystery Science Theater 3000)
• The original Tex himself, Chris Jones

This one should've been a Telltale game. Excellent wrtiting, characters and acting, sadly spoiled by some pixel hunting. Easily recommended if you dig the style.

First Tex Murphy I played and I love it. The FMV bit is excellent and the writing superb.
Game is loose enough to make you think but the reference to previous games and stories is a bit of a pain when you haven't played them but the main character having amnesia works well as he can't remember them either.

Highly recomended 10/10

This was an overall fun game, definitely worth the play :)

Except for a few behind the corner, underneath something items to find, it was a good play.

Thumbs up :)

Retro? Check
Cheesy Lines? Double-Check
Mildly Entertaining Plotline? Check.

I was surprised with how much I enjoyed the over-acting and the game itself did provide a lot of entertainment.

First game I actually paid full price for on Steam and a bargain at that, but I am a die hard fan.

Started with Under A Killing Moon which peaked my interest and found the previous games on disk at a local computer shoppe. Was always impressed that they pushed the envelope on the technology at the time. When Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum were made they were using the built in motherboard speaker to create speech in the game.

Pandora was my favorite until Tesla Effect. I liked Overseer too, but had problems with some bugs.

Tesla Effect worked perfectly for me and finally got a conclusion to Overseer going the Cheslea path first run through.

Thanks to Chris Jones and Aaron and everyone that made this game happen.

Tesla Effect is overall a fun adventure and a great tribute to the original series of games.
Moving around is now done in a nice FPS-style which definitely makes it easier.
The puzzles can be quite difficult, also in a large part due to the fact that they're part of the game world instead of on an overlay or a new screen. Unfortunately this means sometimes the puzzles become a bit too zoomed out to easily read, at least on a television screen.
There are a lot of references to the old games, but I think that if you love cheesy FMV games you'll still get a kick out of this one even if you haven't played any of the previous ones.
As a fan, I could buy and play one of these every year or so.

The best looking TEX MURPHY adventure by far, but lacks some of the charm of the games before it.
better controls and interesting puzzles but sometimes hard to know what to do without a guide. Without a guide one will find themselves wondering around aimlessly until they luckily find something.

But overall a great game and would like to see more adventures.

I've had such a great time playing this game. Solving puzzles, talking, watching and listning to all the characters, and visiting all these awesome places, this game is like nothing else. Now that it's over, I can't help to feel a little bit sad.

This was my first Tex Murphy game, and I'm really happy I found out that it exist. I did not back this during the kickstarter campaign, but if there's ever going to be a new kickstarter for another Tex Murphy game, I will be amongst the first to back it. I want more.

The only minor faults that I could find is that the 3D part of the game could have been a bit more optimized. But this not something that bothered me much, because once I got into the game and the story, I quickly appreciated the game for what it is.

If you like point and click / adventure (first person) games, and have a thing for detective (tv shows/stories) then you should not miss out on this one. Just listen to the music and you'll be hooked.

9/10.

Played Tesla with my wife. We've played all the Tex Murphy games, and we're pretty sure this one is our favorite.

Puzzles are sometimes hard, sometimes easy, sometimes just right, and there are lots of them. We got many, many hours of good adventure gaming out of this Tex Murphy game.

If you've never played a Tex game before, you might not like them. They're a totally unique series unlike any other FMV game from the golden era of the '90s. They're classics, and Tex Murphy has a cult following for reasons.

That said, if you're a pretty serious person, need every little detail to be highly polished like a 60-dollar AAA title, or lack the patience necessary to go looking around with a flashlight like a real detective, then this game probably isn't for you.

As for us? We loved it. I really, really hope Chris Jones and the gang get back together for Tex 7 before we have to wait another 15 years.

I love it.

- Entertaining story and characters
- Awesome FMVs
- Cool locations

Cons:
- In game graphics not really up to date

Just like old times.

Can't remember the last modern game that had FMV (maybe C&C series). The video and composite green screening was very well done. Film was shot on a Canon C100 and the quality was just right. It is so fresh to have an old technology.
Acting was terribly great!
Story was fun and tied things together.
Great homages to all past games.
Puzzles were fun but in my taste too easy for a Tex game.
Fun easter eggs.
Fair amount of gameplay, but could always ask for more.

At some point will try some of the other game paths. There are 5 possible endings, which always makes a game fun to play again.

The success of this game should show that FMV is no longer a dead technology; quality video and compositing should open up a world of interactive fiction/non-fiction. I expect to see another Tex and really hope others try to borrow from this design.
