About This Game

-Winner of Best Character from Adventuregamers.com as well as 10 of their Readers Choice awards including Best Story and Best Adventure of 2014.

Tex Murphy wakes up – disoriented and head pounding – on the fire escape outside his office atop the Ritz Hotel. Another typical morning for the last of the old-school detectives. Except it isn’t. What starts out as the worst hangover in history becomes a baffling nightmare: something – or someone – has erased Tex’s memory of the past seven years. Motivated by lost love, revenge and the world’s strongest coffee blend, Tex must retrace his own steps into a maze of unsolved murders, hidden agendas and lost technologies of Nikola Tesla. Only by solving the mysteries of his past can Tex hope to regain his memory in time to restore what’s been lost…and stop a terrifying future.

Tex Murphy will finally be back in 2014 after leaving loyal fans on a cliffhanger for almost 16 years, so come get acquainted in a world filled with dangerous dames, morally ambiguous characters, and lots of mysteries to be solved.

Tesla Effect upgrades the classic Tex Murphy experience with HD live-action -- that's right, for those of you not old enough to have played adventure games in the 90s, Tex Murphy embraces the lost art of green screen full-motion video as it interacts with fully modeled 3D environments. Players will be challenged with logic puzzles, interactive dialogue, branching storylines, and alternate endings.

Tesla Effect shines with an eclectic cast of actors, including:
• Todd Bridges (Willis from Diff'rent Strokes...ask someone older if you don't know what that is)
• June "TV's Greatest Mom" Lockhart (ask someone even older if you don't know who that is)
• Larry "Soup Nazi" Thomas (you all have seen Seinfeld, right?)
• Kevin "Tom Servo" Murphy (Mystery Science Theater 3000)
• The original Tex himself, Chris Jones

Really nice, in line with the previous Tex Murphy adventures. Would recommend this to anyone who likes FMV and Tex.

It's by the slimest of margins I give this a positive review. There are far more negatives about this "game" than positives, but ultimately it's not really a game but an interactive movie and if you like a hard boiled detective movie in a wacky Bladerunneresque setting, then you'll probably like this.

- The movie is pretty good

- Can't modify controls
- Random death in the "stealth" portions
- Supporting casts' eyes follow the text they're reading
- Have to "examine" everything in inventory for points
- Puzzles are ridiculous, like trying to find a way over a broken bridge... while standing beside your hovercar
- Graphics are weak

Geez, what a great game. Could not stop playing it. A complete game-changer for FMV's. The only thing that would make this game better would be achievements/trading cards, which would go along great with all the collectibles in the game. Highly recommend this game for anyone who loves Futuristic and Film Noire pieces. Love this game.

This game is so good, it made me sit 10 hours straight (with small breaks) in front of computer.
Well - it's not perfect, it has some faults like bugged textures in some places and sometimes videos are not synced with audio and/or subtitles. But it might be just some reading problem.

Anyway the atmosphere is great. Exploring things is well made. It even has in-game hint system.

A quirky point and click adventure that pokes fun at itself but isn't over the top aside from the story which can be tough to follow at times.

The game is fairly linear, without there being too much to explore in terms of side stories but the decisisons you make will affect the end of the game.

I've played Quest for Glory, Kings Quest, Sam and Max; if you enjoy point and click adventure games this is a solid pickup. You'll spend more time solving the slide puzzle than you will on the rest of those games.

And there's a casual mode that lets you skip puzzles in case you don't want to play the game that you just purchased.

This is probably the second-weakest Tex Murphy game after the Pandora Directive. Which makes it absolutely wonderful,

My biggest complaint would be the old look of the graphics. There are many textures and models that are extremely pathetic by today's standards. The gameplay, however... and the story? No problems whatsoever.

Damn, they really delivered. If you liked the old games even a little bit you are going to love Tesla Effect. This is pure fan service and a pretty awesome game. It's nice to be back on Chandler Avenue.

I love it.

- Humor
- Entertaining story and characters
- Awesome FMVs
- Cool locations

- In game graphics not really up to date

Just like old times.

Can't remember the last modern game that had FMV (maybe C&C series). The video and composite green screening was very well done. Film was shot on a Canon C100 and the quality was just right. It is so fresh to have an old technology.
Acting was terribly great!
Story was fun and tied things together.
Great homages to all past games.
Puzzles were fun but in my taste too easy for a Tex game.
Fun easter eggs.
Fair amount of gameplay, but could always ask for more.

At some point will try some of the other game paths. There are 5 possible endings, which always makes a game fun to play again.

The success of this game should show that FMV is no longer a dead technology; quality video and compositing should open up a world of interactive fiction/non-fiction. I expect to see another Tex and really hope others try to borrow from this design.

WOW what a GAME!

I played the originals back in the 90's?. This is just fantastic old school gaming. There is a magic about these types of games that are missing from todays games. The 3d environments are not that great at all and probably the bigger issue is seeing peoples eyes move as they are reading the "Q" cards during the investigation scenes (which is unfortunate). But that does NOT matter here. This game HOOKS you and wants you to keep going.

I miss these types of games, and I hope this brings back (if nothing else) a niche resurgence. Be it FMV or great story-telling adventures. I just can't believe how much I forgot what it was like to care about a game I am playing. THANK YOU TO THE TEX MURPHY TEAM! WELL DONE!

Absolutely fantastic, well worth both backing and the long wait since Overseer, I am officially booking a couple of weeks off work to play this in peace.

What a great and memorable game. It's getting a little knocked up in the reviews, sadly, but in an age of over-produced and soul-less block-buster games, and low budget indy games that are very hit-or-miss, Tesla Effect stands out as a true indy achievement. It is a (point and click-ish wasd) adventure game worthy of our time.

Strangely engaging and just enough campyness to make it interesting without turning people off. It's reminiscent of the golden era of interactive PC games of the 90s with a good shameless amount of noir thrown in.

Awwwwwwwwww yeah, Tex Murphy is back in his classic glory of awkwardly delivering lines directly to the camera! Tacky in a knowing, charming way and honestly a good buy if you're looking to sink your teeth into a classic style point and click adventure with corny FMV elements!
