Summer 2016 Update

This update spent a long time coming. After many iterations, the parry has finally reached a form that is fair to high and low level players on low and high speed. An array of smaller tweaks are also included.

Dice
After the first year of post-release, I've been more or less hands off in terms of character balance. I believe it's a good thing that these things don't constantly change. After consideration I have decided to make an exemption for Dice. He received some tweaks that make his special move faster and a little more versatile.

Parry
Parrying at low speed now allows the victim to live, but grants full energy to the initiator. This allows specials to be used to guarantee ball control after release. At high speed, parries become a certain kill instead.

Just activating the parry increases the speed by 3 now. Which makes it harder to constantly spam (as you'll lose the ball over time due to the speed). And can be used as a tool to speed up the ball more without doing a more predictable smash.

Change log:
- Parry hitpause delay scales from 40 to 80 speed, 29 frames to 0
- Additional hitpause delay is added if the player is parried from behind
- Serve Auto-parry knockback is reduced to make it certain-kill
- A successful parry completely fills up the energy meter now
- Special moves can be performed after a successful parry, but will be activated at the end of the hitpause
- Parry knockback stun releases 3 frames earlier when pushed against a wall
- Dice's special ball bounce duration is reduced from 16 to 8 frames
- Dice can now choose to release a bunted ball from the ground by holding 'down'
- Reduced clash knockback
- Endlessly extending parry hitpause bug fixed
- Player release before ball release on parry bug fixed
- Latch sprite fix on taunt
- Switch sprite fix on various frames

Jaw Breakers Live Video

https://youtu.be/guqDJnGkmnM
Hype matches, top players from all around Europe and a great setting made the first live Lethal League tournament an event to remember! We had our boy Gijs from Mortier Media make a video to give you a taste of how the event went down. Check out the footage of Jaw Breakers Live!

The music in the video is by Rahzan. The tracks ‘Astronomic’ and ‘Hey’ were a great fit for the vibe we had going. Check out his latest album ‘Home’, released just last month, here. If you’d like to support him, you can (in true underground fashion) give him a mail and ask to buy a copy!

Jaw Breakers Live was won by aTastyT0ast from Germany. As a high placed EU player in the previous Jaw Breakers online tournament all eyes were on him and he has proven to be a worthy champion. On top of the prize money and Lethal League goodies, he will be awarded a special ingame icon to show off with! We hope aTastyT0ast will be there next time to defend his spot and all the others (and more) to challenge him!

The top 5 results:
1) aTastyT0ast (Germany)
2) Ice Coldas (Netherlands)
3) Glioburd (France)
4) YinYin (Germany)
5) Tenasow (Denmark) and Creme Brulee (Netherlands)

To wrap this post up we also got some new merch from EightySixed! Check out this brand new Lethal League tee. Now buy this or the critical error WILL be you!

And as always, follow, retweet, like, love, blablablabla Instagram, Twitter, Facebook

Imagine a cross between Super Smash Bros and Baseball.

It's really a great game. Well worth the £1 it's going for in the Humble Indie Bundle at the moment, although it's not got any single player to speak of.

I've been trying to find a great PC party game that doesn't need a lot of explanation for friends, and this one is it. The concept is simple enough, but there's a lot of skill that can be at play. Unlike Super Smash Bros and other fighting games, the moves you can use aren't complex (just three: jump, hit and bunt), so you can focus on playing the game rather than figuring out what all the buttons do.

Awesome upbeat soundtrack, unique characters, funky art style and great feeling gameplay. Getting the ball up to speed and having a wicked rally feels super satisfying. Even when I was losing I was grinning ear to ear because of how much fun I was having. Highly recommend purchasing with a buddy to play with!

The gameplay is really fun and the music is hype as hell, but be prepared to spend 80% of your time in queue or loading screens.

Wow. Just wow. A very shallow "fighting ball game" that only has online and versus modes (for obvious reasons). It's like playing ping pong with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that only play using power ups. Got it from a bundle and now I can forget about it. If you absolutely adore the art style (lol) or the reckless ball bashing (pun intended) don't still buy this.

This could be great for 4-player local couch-partying. It's like baseball mixed with Super Smash Bros. and it works. It's hilariously fun for a single player, and while I can't test out the local 4-player functionality, it seems like it would work fairly well. My only complaint is the game doesn't give easy gamepad navigation, relying mostly on the mouse cursor for character selection. On that note, playing with a keyboard sucks, making it almost mandatory to have a decent gamepad for this game. Overall, it's worth your money and your time but only if you have gamepads to enjoy it with.

As a projectile fighting game Lethal Leagues core is simple: hit your opponent with a ball to score and ultimately win a match.
You can try a bare bones prototype on reptile games' website to see if you like that concept.
Like many other recent small competitive games this one challenges the player with high risk&reward as a single hit from the ball is a knock out. Although if you or your team hit the ball last it won't harm you.
The intense fun of this game starts to kick in once you've hit the ball back and forth a few times, ever increasing its speed to ridiculously high levels (speedometer at the bottom on the boombox). Normal hits only increase the ball speed by 1, charged hits and smashes however double the speed. With more speed the hit lag will increase, the screen will shake, the background will change, intense visual effects will ripple across the screen and the characters will throw catchy phrases at each other as they hit the ball. Next to jumping and swinging you can also bunt the ball to slightly decrease the speed and carefuly set up your next attack.
The movement mechanics are very solid. You can move right and left as you jump, you can tap for a short hop or hold to jump higher and stay in the air longer as well as press down to fall faster.
The selectable characters two major mechanic differences are their method of gaining height (high jump, wall jump, double jump, wall ride, ...) and their special move, which can be activated with a full special bar (builds up by hitting the ball).

Next to online and local multiplayer with up to 4 people there is also a single player challenge with 10 increasingly difficult stages to beat in sequence and in local multiplayer there are 7 levels of AI difficulty with the highest one still being a challenge even if you are already very good at the game - although not as engaging as a good human player will probably be.

And it's a damn lot of fun.
Raced to the top of my most played game ever list during beta testing.
