Contains historical accuracies that pleasantly surprise. Koroni, the trade port, just isn't even mentioned in the CK2s and EU4s of this world.

Makes a relaxing game (very) cathartic. It's not super-deep, but instead a colourful romp portraying to an extent the historical rivalry between Genova and Venezia.

The big question you have to ask yourself when you're deciding whether to buy DLC that's "the same, but more" in a game is "does this feel like it's worth what you paid for it?" This is especially true when the publisher doesn't have a stellar reputation for providing good DLC value (I still haven't bought Tropico 5 because I'm waiting for a Gold Edition AND a deep discount rather than paying Kalypso's nickel-and-dime-the-player-to-death exploitive EA-like business model on DLC.)

All of the above said, I'm pleased to report that this is a genuine, legitimate expansion pack in the old boxed-CD style, making an already large and living world even more so without completely smashing game balance. The guys at Gaming Minds have been doing this genre for over 20 years since launching "The Patrician", and they know by now how to create worlds that not only work but take well to extension. That pedigree is on display here.

It's worth the $10 "regular" price, but it goes on sale a LOT, so you can probably hold out for a five-dollar ask and REALLY feel like you stole something! If you already own and enjoy Rise of Venice, this will be "the same, but more" in a good way.
