Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is a great game!
It has been 100 years since the beggining of the First World War. Anniversary has led to release of several games based on the Great War. Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is one of the latest games about WW1. Where other games try to accurately describe horrors of the war, Mémoires de la Grande Guerre has it's original view. Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is cartoonlike animated 2D adventure. Cartoonlike approach brings memorable design to the game. Storyline of the game consists of the real events of the Western Front. While the game proceeds the player is given lots of information about the true events of the war. The game has large base of information with lots of authentic material from the war. To complete the game it is not necessary to explore everything that game has to give, but authentic stuff makes great bonus to the game.
Characters controlled and their actions are fictional. Game takes its own freedoms in creating entertaining events to the main characters. Most of time the game is indeed very entertaining. Mémoires de la Grande Guerre manages to be alternately both funny and sad.
However the game is not perfect.
As you could predict from the French name Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is heavily French-based game. Most of the Germans are evil, Britons do not exist, Americans are volunteers for French army. Game is not even description about the WW1 in its full extent. Other fronts than the Western Front (for instance Italian Front & Eastern Front), are not even mentioned in the game.
Sometimes fictional happenings in the game are irritatingly silly. For example in the real life you really can not dodge poison gas by going to your knees.
The game is optimized to work with amazingly large variety of computers and installations. However gameplay is not always fluent. The game also has some major bugs that could crash the game.
Great, entertaining and educational game with few minor flaws in story and technical difficulties.
