Soldats Inconnus : Mémoires de la Grande Guerre

Valiant Hearts: The Great War™ is absolutely amazing!

The story is based on the first world war told by an awesome voice acting storyteller. You gonna play alot of different characters in the game but all of them are well connected with the main story. Basically the story is about Karl finding a way back to his family after he got separated and deported to serve the german army. To me the game tells and teach much more than that Valiant Hearts made me realize once more how important family and true friends are. It also shows how unnecessary war is you are just a fighting slave fighting for other people interests, killing people who never wanted any war, people like yourself, people you would probably consider as friendly or even your friend. Beside from that the game is a little history lesson you can find a lot of facts happend during the first world war. The gameplay is quit simple for a puzzle adventure game at the same time well conceived. It force you to think without being unfair or unnecessary hard. For myself I can say the gameplay was entertaining from beginning to end. Who ever was responsible for the design of the game made a great job the levels are lovely created. One more point I wanna mention is the wonderful music fits perfectly to the atmosphare. You gonna be golden with Valiant Hearts: The Great War™ if you looking for a game with a good story and fun gameplay.

Valiant Hearts is touching adventure set during the First World War. It follows characters across the frontlines as they search for family. Puzzles build delicately and are relatively clever by the end of the six hour story. Characters are joined by a well-used dog that can retrieve objects and pull levers, allowing for some nifty solutions. Aside from some unfortunate gamey elements, such as dodging carpet bombs or ridiculous QTEs, this is a tale worth experiencing.

Despite this being an Ubisoft game it turned out much better then I expected. The visuals were unique and the controls were very easy and straight forward. I am not much of a puzzle gamer but all the puzzles in this game tend to be quick and are rarely tedious. They generally do not impede the flow of the game or the story.

They brought in some great ideas in the fields of sneaking and driving. The driving parts although few and far between (and short lived) were by far my favourites. They were fun and brilliantly put together.

I did encounter some bugs that stopped the progress of the game but considering how frequently the game saves for you its not an issue.

What surprised me the most was the story and history lesson about one of the ugliest and costliest wars this world has seen. You do start to care for the characters and the game threw one or two curveballs I really was not expecting. Throughout the game you find trinkets and receive automatic journal entries that detail some information on the life of a soldier at that time, how they survived, the sordid conditions they had to endure etc.

Its a quick game to work through and I have no regrets on picking it up.

A beautiful and touching adventure game set in the WWI. Somewhat similar to Machinarium. Puzzles can feel a little forced sometimes, but not in a bad way.

Sometimes a game will have a standout moment, the kind that makes you wish so dearly that EVERYONE could be watching or experiencing it right now, the kind that makes you want to point at it and go, "look at how incredible this medium can be at its very best!". Valiant Hearts is a good six-or-so hours which is full of that kind of feeling. The puzzling is fairly light on, and feels slightly repetitive by the end, but the wonderful presentation and execution imbued throughout makes it rise far above any faults that I could possible find with it. This is one of 2014's essential titles.

This game is absolutely awseome! If you enjoy puzzles and learning some WWI history, I highly recommend it!

Just FYI it uses uPlay DRM. I know some people don't like it, but it has yet to cause me any trouble.

Valiant Hearts is by far the most meaningful game I have ever played. Valiant Hearts brings a whole new perspective to war than just shooting aimlessly at enemies. Very few games are successful at showing the impact war has on people, this game does it perfectly. Valiant Hearts is a puzzle adventure game with an incredibly deep story. There are five main characters who you will get to know and love ranging from a German soldier to a French doctor. One of the most striking aspects of this game is artwork, the cartoon feel can take you from the beautiful rural France to deep underground trenches with bodies lying lifelessly. The puzzles are fairly easy overall but I feel the game main focus is on the story. I recommend this game for gamers who like a good story. I would also like to say that FPS players should give this game a shot as they might learn a thing or two...

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is an adventure game that crosses a rather rudimentary platforming mechanic with item puzzles similar to those typically found in point-and-click adventures. Interspersed in it are driving sessions and a rythm-based minigame for the nurse character. It is set in the first three years of the first world war and covers the story of several characters of different origin and situation and does a real good work of what in a fully fictional story would be called world building, but in this game is history education.

The game has really good music, voice acting and audio design in general, and the aesthetic of the game is based in a comic book/animation style that really hits the mark for telling this kind of story that is in essence rather grim. And make no mistake, it is a really grim setting. The story of this game has it's ups and downs, but it is in content really a message of how bad life during and in the middle of war can get.

The puzzles are easy to medium difficult I would say (there is a hint system if you find yourself having trouble with any of them), the driving sessions and the rythm games are nice break ups from the puzzling, and there are a few boss battles as well.

However, the story is this game is it's strong point. It is a really strong story, with characters whose motivations, dedication and emotions are well fleshed out and make you really empathise with them and the decisions and consequent actions they are forced into.

======Spoilers have been kept to a minimum in this review======

Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a beautiful game in which you play as 4 characters, Emile, a French farmer, Freddie, an American volunteer, Anna, a Belgian nurse, and Karl, the son-in-law of Emile who is taken from their peaceful farm to fight for Germany. Not only is each character unique and likeable, but each has their own backstory that really attaches you to them. Also, you are introduced to Walt, a German medic dog that is befriended by Emile. The art style of this game is amazing, and how the soundtrack is tied in with the gameplay makes it very enjoyable. If you choose to buy Valiant Hearts (which I highly recommend you do) spend time to take in the atmosphere, and really think about the story and how the characters interact with each other. Not only is the game magnificent from all I have mentioned, but there is also much to learn about The Great War (WW I) as the game ties in information very well. SPOILER - IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED GAME DO NOT READ BEYOND After I spent some time really thinking about the ending of the game, I realized that Emile and Karl had not been reunited before Emile's death. When I realized this the game seemed even more tragic. It got me thinking that this is only one portrayed story, and that during the real war there must have been many instances of this, so many bodies, that it might have taken months for the family to recieve news of their deaths.

Please buy Valiant Hearts, this game has really opened my eyes to the true horrors of The Great War.

War makes men mad.

Excellent game with a great story and some really emotional moments. Soundtrack fits perfect! Only negative moments are some of the "mini games", which really break the athmosphere sometimes. But after all, if you like games with a deep story, you will love this game.

Playtime: ~6 hours. So in my opinion, the price is justified.

While watching the ending/credits & listening to the great music, i just thought to myself "that was some piece of art".

Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is a great game!

It has been 100 years since the beggining of the First World War. Anniversary has led to release of several games based on the Great War. Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is one of the latest games about WW1. Where other games try to accurately describe horrors of the war, Mémoires de la Grande Guerre has it's original view. Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is cartoonlike animated 2D adventure. Cartoonlike approach brings memorable design to the game. Storyline of the game consists of the real events of the Western Front. While the game proceeds the player is given lots of information about the true events of the war. The game has large base of information with lots of authentic material from the war. To complete the game it is not necessary to explore everything that game has to give, but authentic stuff makes great bonus to the game.

Characters controlled and their actions are fictional. Game takes its own freedoms in creating entertaining events to the main characters. Most of time the game is indeed very entertaining. Mémoires de la Grande Guerre manages to be alternately both funny and sad.

However the game is not perfect.

As you could predict from the French name Mémoires de la Grande Guerre is heavily French-based game. Most of the Germans are evil, Britons do not exist, Americans are volunteers for French army. Game is not even description about the WW1 in its full extent. Other fronts than the Western Front (for instance Italian Front & Eastern Front), are not even mentioned in the game.

Sometimes fictional happenings in the game are irritatingly silly. For example in the real life you really can not dodge poison gas by going to your knees.

The game is optimized to work with amazingly large variety of computers and installations. However gameplay is not always fluent. The game also has some major bugs that could crash the game.

Great, entertaining and educational game with few minor flaws in story and technical difficulties.
