Update - GOTY Mode - v1.51.4

We spent the weekend trying to address a few of the bugs that has been reported in the Savant Steam Community, aswell as adding a little something extra!

GOTY mode has now been fixed up, and you can activate it by completing all of the achievements in the game. This will add a button on the Main Menu which let's you turn on GOTY mode.

When GOTY mode is turned on, enemies in the game will be replaced by goats-themed robots(and yes, we know it's a terrible pun).

We've added two new leaderboards for this occation, Vario GOTY(Time Attack) and Endless GOTY.

Other issues addressed in this patch is:
+ Fixed a crash when selecting CDs in the pause menu.
+ Fixed a crash that would occur when using chain attacks on enemy.
+ Fixed a couple of grammar errors.

We will continue to fix issues as they are reported, so please feel free to turn to the discussion community to report any faults.

Enjoy!

As an audiophile.. and a fan of electronic music... I cannot recommend this title more.
Great beats, amazing yet simple gameplay, all tied together to make a really addictive, pulse pounding arcade shooter.

Getting to the "gamer high" is very easy with this one.
Autozoning on nothing but the game for 5 minutes at a time whilst leaving your eyes watering simply due to not blinking is common, at least for me.

Seriously,
This is the best $2 you can spend on Steam.
And I do mean that. Period.
Better than what you'd buy on sale for less!

This is a 2d Platform dash and shoot game.

This game is really genius !!
The music ... I love it, As long as you like the kind of music.
Controls are quite simple .... just shoot, jump and dash.
But secretly, this game is truly difficult in spite of the simplicity of the way the game is made.
Animations look amazing and think it's really a hidden gem.

You need to collect the 6 disc to get all of the powers.
The powers are needed to get to the final ending and clearing the game for 100%.
Getting all music discs is a really a great challenge.

If you think this game retail price is only for € 2,- that is crazy !!
It's haves a really high replay value for his money.
I really enjoyed this game for what it is.

This is a must have game !!
I give it a 10/10 because of the Difficulty, Replay Value, Beautiful Animation, Cheap Price and cool music.

An interesting take on the twin-stick shooter. The right-stick shoots, but the left-stick, instead of moving in the direction you point, has you jumping between two platforms. What's also intersting are the CDs which when unlocked not only change the music but upgrade your character's attacks. The graphics look really nice as well. Just don't get too distracted while playing...

Holy ♥♥♥♥, this game is good, and recently became better with a free expansion.
I like Savant's music so maybe I'm slightly biased, but the artwork is also wonderful, and the gameplay, while simple, is challenging and fun.
Arcade-like, high replay value for a low price.

I've always enjoyed Savant's music, so when I bought this for a single dollar, I thought it would be good music with some mediocre gameplay. That was stupid of me, really really stupid of me... The Gameplay is on par with the music and the crazy flashes to go with it! The game is very stimulating, I was litteraly glued to my computer screen for a while.

The controls were choppy to me at first, but when you get the hang of it they are not at all. The first 2 levels are quite easy, but the 3rd and after take some skill, the color changes on your missiles to the music. I've played some better synchronized games, but not this cheap!

In the end, the game is very affordable, and yet even more fun! 8.5/10

Before a quick review I want to mention the ridicilous ingame soundtrack (in a good way), such a good mach with the very intense gameplay and all these explosions and enemies surrounding you. I can't really describe it, I never played such a game before. And Its 1EUR on steam sales. You don't have any valid excuses to not buy it.

At first, I was a little disappointed at the gameplay and I thought the music was alright. The game proceeded to flip my head over in about 5 minutes as I blew up hordes of enemies in vibrant colours, all in a rhythmic fashion.

Definitely worth more than a measly two bucks.

Ascend the Tower of Wubs, fighting off hordes of plebes who can't understand your superior taste in music along the way. Gather CDs as you go to expand your collection. Don't look in one direction for too long, or the plebs will sneak up behind you and ask what you're listening to, leaving you stuttering because someone is actually talking to you.

Savant - Ascent may have a killer soundtrack, but that's not the only good thing about it.

This game is a simple 2D shoot-'em-up, played mainly with the mouse. Savant, your character, is stationed at the center of the screen, on one of two platforms, and your goal is to survive the hordes of enemies around you. You can "dodge" by quickly switching platforms, which will keep you alive much longer if used correctly. Power-ups, unlocked by collecting CD pieces dropped by certain enemies, make the the game a little more interesting, and the levels get more difficult, but the basic gameplay remains the same.

It's fun blasting away enemies, having to decide which enemies to target, how best to use your abilities to defeat them. But the pixel graphics and the amazing soundtrack by Savant (no, that's not a coincidence) aren't enough to conceal the repetitiveness of the gameplay. This game is more of a score attack than a constantly evolving experience, since most of the replay value comes from attempting to beat previous scores. That having been said, it's probably a good thing that the game is short, otherwise it would drag out and lose its entertainment value, which it currently has a lot of.

Pros
  • Shooting up hordes is fun
  • Power-ups and dodging mechanics make the game interesting
  • Absolutely stunning soundtrack

Cons
  • Panning around the screen feels clunky at times
  • Gameplay is somewhat repetitive
(Note: I wouldn't say being a short game is a con in this case, for reasons stated above, and the price tag)

TL;DR: Savant - Ascent is definitely short, but it's awesome, and I'd say the low price tag was worth it.

Okay, how have I never heard of this?!?!? Why do only two of my friends have it?!?!? This is $1.99?!?!? Is that even legal?!?!?!

In all seriousness though this game, oh man. I had about 3 bucks left over in my steam account from the 2014 Winter Sale. I was browsing the cheapest games. Most everything was trash, but this caught me eye. I saw the reviews were good and the soundtrack was cool. I'm a sucker for soundtracks so I went ahead and got it. I installed it and loaded it up. About 10 minutes in I was having some fun, the beats were sweet and the controls were tight. Then I got to the second level which upped the difficulty and I was getting into it. Then I unlocked the next soundtrack. I was listening with my crappy laptop speakers but then I put my headphones on. It was like a barrage of beats penetrating my ears. It was pure euphoria. The game apparently at launch was only 3 levels but now there are two more, an endless mode, and insane upgrades. Hands down the best $1.99 I ever spent. When I played the endless mode I was hooked. The night I got it I played for 2 hours straight. That is really rare for me. What are you waiting for? Honestly, what else are you going to spend $1.99 on? ;)

The gameplay proved to be awesome. I think this is a really interesting type of shootemup with abilities that you need to learn when to best utilize. There are interesting trade offs after you get various CDS Like using your burst ability that explodes pretty much everything on screen but losing your double damage normal attacks, or stop attacking to jump multiple times so you can full your burst super fast (You get this with the 6th CD) but you need to take care not to get hit and spamming burst all the time can create some problems depending of the situation.

I recommend this game even if you hate the gameplay as long as you like electronic music. It's 2 dollars for 8 free full musics pretty sure that's still a bargain. Savant is a musical genius you should check him out as well. He also has many other free releases out there and 13 amazing albuns.
