Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR

"There are good VR games, and there are others... Good ones are designed to work on VR from the start, Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR seems to be one of the firsts. Agharta Studio succeded at sublimating its game sceneries and ambiance, this little title may not look much but promises to be one of the first VR successes!"

"The results are impressive. We can scan the whole scenes while moving the head, and we keep stopping at details we never noticed before, like those UI windows. We almost feel like we can touch them! The same goes for characters, you can't prevent to look at them at every possible angle."

Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe

"Once upon a time, when Apple and Commodore were personal computer rivals, Brøderbund Software released a little game called Shufflepuck Café. If you played that game back in the day, prepare for an overload of nostalgic air hockey goodness. If this is your first trip to the Shufflepuck Cantina, well, nostalgia won’t do anything for you, but the air hockey goodness sure will!"

"Hop over to Steam and pick up your copy as soon as it unlocks. The game is loads of fun to play and works great whether you have 5 minutes or a whole afternoon!"

"It's an excellent surprise with a big life span. The game looks really nice too."

"To be clear, I loved Shufflepuck Cafe when it came bundled with my Amiga 500 in the late 80′s, and this hits all my nostalgia buttons without the “not as good as I remember” feelings."

"Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe is highly recommended. This is a nice year-end surprise that a simple game of Air Hockey is something challenging with many special moves and content that never get the player bored."

"Shufflepuck Cantina took the original and brought it up to 2013 standards. I’m sure Shufflepuck Cafe fans would have been more than happy with a straight remake but Agharta did a fantastic job of making a modern Shufflepuck game while retaining the spirit of the original."

"All together Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe lives up to the legacy of its predecessor in every way. It’s an easy to play game within a mostly well rounded gameworld and will have you playing for hours on end."
80% -

"Your opponents are varied and it takes time to learn how to defeat them while a steady stream of unlocks will keep you coming back for more. Whether you want to play for a few minutes or a few hours, Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe is a good choice."

About This Game

Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR is also very enjoyable without a VR headset!
Note: In case the game fails to launch, switch to the winopengl version in BETAS tab.

After "accidentally" jumping your spaceship through a wormhole, you’ve crash landed onto this forsaken desert planet a billion kilometers from home. The only thing between you and the horizon is the seemingly endless dunes of sand, save for one strange, huge building. Inside, it appears to be an interstellar Casino where everyone plays air hockey for a living.

You’ll have to fight hard to grind down all your opponents until they are utterly defeated to earn the critical parts needed to repair your ship. Once you’ve obtained all the spaceship pieces you’ll have to defeat the owner of this insane Casino so you can go home.

Nice way of wasting your time while listnening to your favourite records just like playing Pinball.
Handeling the mallets, pucks and timing your effects feels great and you'll get better with every game you play.
The oponents you'll face all have their different style of gameplay. Hunting the achievements is fun.
I don't like my games frustrating but with shufflepuck I don't mind very much. The games are fast, short and fun.

Does a very good job of reviving Shufflepuck memories. Also looks nice and is playable with the Oculus.
But the very hard grinding is annoying, and the AI opponents are apparently able to use their special strike more often than you, sometimes right when the game starts, even when not enraged. Also, there is no option for turning off the bonus/hazard coins that spawn on the table.

1) Stay away
2) Only recommended when on sale

4) Highly recommended
5) This is a must play

Shufflepuck Cantina is a wonderful air hockey game. You get to play air hockey against a variety of robots and aliens. There are a ton of special mallets and different opponents and challenges that add a lot of variety to what is otherwise a very simple game. It almost never gets boring.

The mouse control is excellent. I had no idea this game was available on touchscreens until I read other reviews claiming it was a mobile port. I don't know why anyone would play an air hockey game using anything other than a mouse.

Other reviews have described this game as a grind. If you feel that sports games are a grind, because you have to play so many matches; or that racing games are a grind, because you have to drive in so many races; if you like "completing" games more than you like "playing" games, you may feel the same way.

But if you like the idea of playing air hockey against robots and aliens, buy this game.

This is a unique air hockey inspired game. The gameplay is fun. The characters are amusing. It is apparent there is much replay value to this game.
The gameplay is great. Each opponent you face off against has a special shot they perform once powered up. The opponents you face in the beginning don't have very tricky shots but the shots of later opponents are very intense and hard to combat. You can play a variety of modes against each opponent. There is a simple duel mode in which you battle your opponent up to a certain amount of points. There is also a bet mode in which you can bet up to a set number of coins on the match. A survival mode is also available where one strike against you results in the game being over.
The unlock system adds complexity to the game. Mallets and pucks of varying abilities are able to be unlocked. In fact you can unlock the mallets your opponents use to unlock their shots. There is also a leveling system in which you unlock different coin boosts for the particular modes.
A couple minors gripes I have are the lack of multiplayer and some annoying quirks of the characters. When you score on characters they perform the same action upon every point you win against them. So their catchphrases can get old quickly. However, you can just play a different character upon getting too annoyed.
Overall this game surprised me with how fun it is and I feel I will be sinking many hours into it.

Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe is a great animated 3D air hockey game. The game is controlled via the computer’s mouse. You have to hit a hockey puck with the aim to knock the hockey puck past the opponent’s site (and to get the puck when the opponent knocks it to you). In Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe you have a modern, colorfull design, 13 opponents on 5 floors (with different looking rooms), more than 40 gadgets and equipment and and and. This game is perfect if you just want to play a bit alone. The game saves itself so you have nothing to do when you want to quit the game. You can level your own character (about 200 levels!) and there are over 350 missions and 120 mini quests you can do. If you really want to collect all achievements and to do all quests you can spend much time on that game. I would buy it always again.
