Cool concept brought low by ♥♥♥♥ controls, ♥♥♥♥ checkoint save system, and nauseatingly bad platform physics. Cool and fun, until it's not.
Mouse is awesome for the shmup part. Sucks for the platforming part.
Keyboard sucks for both.
Gamepad, which i have not tried, is hopefully decent for platforming, but can't possibly be better than mouse for shmup.
Checkpoints suck for everything.
As for the physics, there's too much inertia and bouncing and sliding off stuff you are trying to land on is the rule, not the exception. Either bounding box issues or, again, the wack controls (and/or just something about the jump trajectory envelope) make it seem cheap and low-tech, like a phone game, or a flash game, as you are constantly denied on fundamental jumps.
Cool and fun, until it's not. I want to like this game but I quickly lost patience with the repetition brought on by the playability issues mentioned above. The game wants you to explore it, but you won't want to. And you can't just go "100% shmup", AFAICT.
I'm still recommending it cuz it's at least worth a check-out, but ..... well, all I can say is, maybe I should have bought "Ballpoint Universe - Just the First 4-5 Levels, Until It Starts Getting Dickish", instead of "Ballpoint Universe - Infinite". YMMV, I suppose.
