Japan and Linux

March 6th, 2014

We're pleased to announce two big things! First, Ballpoint Universe will be available in Japanese starting today. Thanks to Unity Games Japan, we have a fully localized Japanese version! We'll be premiering the game at BitSummit this evening. EXCITE

Another big dealio--

For our small but dedicated task force, the Linux version is now available! We tried to get everything working the same as the Windows version, however gamepad controls aren't available on Linux.

Anyways, thanks everyone! We're having a week-long sale in celebration of these two events. Enjoy~~

Ballpoint Universe is a beautiful shmup with guns and melee weapons. Between the stages you'll explore the cities like a platform game: running, jumping and talking with characters that tells you the story. The difficult is just right, but if you want a real challenge, try to clear levels flawlessly. There's also an infinite mode to keep you occupied. For this game, you'll get more than your money's worth. On sale it's an absolutely steal!

After playing this game, I feel like drawing something. This game plays like a shmup( Shoot them up) if you're not familiar with games where you're a spaceship to destrory enemy planes or aliens. But what's unique about the game is everything is done in Ballpoint; you're always introduced to new and vibrant art that keeps coming in your face. When I first played this game, I was confused either to say if it was a platformer and a shmup. I feel like the platforming sections are really weak and presents a flaw when you're trying to go to many platforms. Controls don't feel tight so you have to rely on your mouse or keyboard/game pad for the jumping sections. The game works as you collect inkblots to upgrade, buy new parts to your ship which adds a lot of customization to how you want to approach things. You want a sword and gun combo? Done. You want to protect yourself and use missiles? Done. You just want to go commando and use dual melee or guns? Sure thing. Its very rewarding when you upgrade because it helps with ranking on missions. I recommend this to anyone who wants to try it out, the game can keep you playing for hours and it's not entirely hard ( The wheel can give you 40k inkblots if you're having trouble) if you're new.

I want to recommend this game, I really do, but between horrible platforming sections (this game is actually a shmup) with extremely confusing controls and a lot of stuff going on in foreground in shmup sections (making it hard to dodge projectiles) I cannot. The art style is fun and amusing and there are enough upgrades to chose any playstyle you might need. Ranged weapons are extremely weak though, and I very quickly found myself picking up a couple of melee blades and playing the rest of the game with them.

All around solid shoot-em-up with good ship customization, but what makes the game stand out is the absolutely astonishing art style. The whole ball pen just look works very well; the limited color pallet is relaxing for the eyes, so you can always comprehend what's happening regardless of how cluttered the screen becomes.

While it looks great for the most part some lesser enemies just seem unimaginative, and the unit variety is somewhat limited, so you have to stick with the boring designs a little longer than you would want. It's not all that long; most will probably get 2-5 hours out of it, but for the price that's a fair deal.

This is a very cool, creative, unique game. It's hard to explain, but there are almost two different games in this game, and they're blended perfectly by the storyline and art.

Jeez, for $3 what is there to complain about here? Nothing. Nice little game. It's like an old arcade side scroller which is a bit of a walk down memory lane, playing things like 'R-Type' back in the day. Graphics are interesting. Music does the job. Nice to see they went straight for mouse control not the x-box controller. Buy it and give the developers a couple of bucks to encourage them on their future path of game design.

CONSIDER THIS: THE TRUE GAME. I invite anyone reading this to consider the place of games in their lives. Do you feel it is an addiction or distraction? Do you feel it contributes to a sense of social and political lethargy? Does gaming function as an ajunct to TV as a form of mind control for (mostly) young males while you are being set up as potential recruit-fodder for the armed forces? There is a REAL game in this world. It is big and complex and totally worth playing. Before playing this game you should reflect on two things:
(1) What happens when a jet liner hits a large office tower?
(2) What happens when 200,000 on Structural steel in a 300 meter office tower collapses?
Compare your understanding for what happens in reality with what we were told haoppened on September 11 2001. If you notice a discrepancy you may be qualified to play the real game of life.
To play make your way to the nearest possible Freemasonic lodge and begin your application.
Talk to you again when you pass level 20 of the sacred order.
