It's not a badly executed game, and the combat is quite nice... It's just i lose my interest everytime after a few levels when because there is just not enough incentive leveling your character or gaining gold, which feels pretty useless after you unlocked the few and only skills your character has, without the possibility of upgrading it. A decent upgrade or leveling path feels like a huge omission for what could have been a great game considering the execution of everything they DID right. Fun maybe for a few hours, but gets old too quickly unfortunately.

So disapppointed in this game~omg!! I've played every Gauntlet ever existed and I just can't believe they didn't make it an RPG. WTF is the point of grinding and items don't even make u stronger, just different skills while u grind ever wave the same fkn way trying to earn coin to buy the next useless item or decor that do fk all to boost your stats or skills. So many elements missing ESPECIALLY the Storyline!! So low budget and weak characters so god damn boring FK Im so ♥♥♥♥♥♥... 6/10

So... freaking... addictive...! It is required that you develop real skills and I love that in a game.

if you love gauntlet do not get this game

everything they could do wrong with a gauntlet game has been inserted in this game

ridiculous AOE enemies? Check! (Rememer any aoe enemy in the original gauntlet?)

unblockable attacks that are impossible to read in the general mess? Check!

recycled boss, but two at a time instead of only one? Check!

consoletards based fights, enter room, get locked inside, kill all enemies, room unlocked? Check!

all in all i paid 5 euros and i think it was not worth it

I love this game, though I was a bit disappointed in a few things, sadly. Lets start on the negative first.
The world variety is lacking in this one, I don't mean to say that this game should be something like Dark Legacy, but that is what compensated for the previous game lacked. The only theme here is caves, mines, and Hell... it kinda starts to all blend in together, caves, caves, caves, lots of caves. Something that kinda baffles me is how Colosseum has ice spawners, poison spawners, yet no ice worlds or jungle levels?
The boss battles didn't feel as grand and epic though, the bosses having invuln frames felt like they're there to drag out the battle, not increase difficulty, don't get me wrong, I like a challenging monster to fight, but know the difference between challenging and tedious.
Oh also, its Gauntlet, find someone to play with cos this can be played single player, but this is a multiplayer game, always has been, always will!

The positive!
The heroes are different! Anyone who knows the previous Gauntlet games would take note of this first! Though I adore Dark Legacy with a passion <3 something that was troublesome was that all the classes were the same, they all just start with different stats though, that isn't the case in this game! The warrior is all about throwing his weight around, charging right into the hordes you fight! The elf has the enemies running in circles to catch him! The Valkyrie is able to dash into a horde and defend teammates! The wizard, oh my god the wizard! I never had any idea how to differentiate a wizard class in a game like this! They used a simplified version of Magicka's spells, but still something neat!
The enemies are something too! I love how they even got the enemies to differ from each other as well <3 I am actually very glad that ArrowHead did that! The mummies having their own mages, bloated mummies! Skeleton archers! Juggernauts, spider queens, the list goes on!

Final thoughts
I would buy this game 3 times over if it had the level variety of Dark Legacy, yet managed to have all classes different from each other! To this day, to whoever reads this maybe many years down the line, I am awaiting a game that meets that description, a game that is as grand adventure as Dark Legacy, yet provide enough variety throughout! I don't see such a game like that coming out soon, maybe not even within my lifetime. I await the day I can go on a quest to slay a fearsome yeti, enter the nightmare realm, deal with a wizard summoner who is obsessed with the desecrated temple!
The game is great, it gives plenty new but doesn't change too much, keeps the old but does something new! I want more of this!
I'll close this at this point now, a great game to play with friends if you like fighting massive hoards of enemies, I eagerly await the next installment!

I remember playing Gauntlet Legends on the Dreamcast like it was yesterday. Vibrant colors, outdoorsy environments and good ole' local multiplayer options.

Years later and we get this game, it takes a more darker approach with more features - underground dungeons, caves, with a more matured art style. Add some upgrade components and online multiplayer. However, it keeps that same fun-factor by engaging us in addictive gameplay and dark/sarcastic humor.

I feel like I could play this game forever and not get tired. There are 4 characters (5 if you purchase the Necromancer dlc) and each character feels totally different changing the experience.

Red warrior shot the food! Nice remake of an old classic, if you played the original or Gauntlet II back in the day you won't be disappointed.

Combat is challenging without being impossible and being able to play as different classes gives this game nice replay value.

I never played the original one.
But playing this one in co-op is amazing.
Not easy though, even if you are four people.

Well balanced gameplay with very comical commentary from all of the characters. As well as great level design and art style. Only complaints is the length of the game and the final boss battle (anticlimactic ending). Last but not least, the endless mode is very fun for those who seek a challenge with friends.

A Great LAN/Co-op Game.

Pros:
  • It's a great party game. Probably the most fun part aside from working together to smash the hordes of evil, is everyone being greedy ♥♥♥♥♥es.
  • It is a worthy successor to the Gauntlet series. It takes the classic formula and streamlines it for the current generation of games.
  • 5 battle classes. Each class plays differently and feels unique. (Necromancer might be additional DLC depending on what edition you have.)
  • Customization options for each character. Armor & clothes options are available for each character at substantial cost of in-game currency.
  • Game runs well, and has a decent amount of graphical options. (Also, has 21:9 display support)
  • Characters will banter with one another throughout the game. It's a nice touch, and usually enjoyable. Voice acting is generally well done.

Neutral:
  • With a base price of $20USD, it's about what I'd expect content wise. No way I'd pay more than $20 for this game. Get it on steam sale if you can.
  • If you're planning on buying this to play by yourself, you should probably just skip it. It's great as a co-op experience, but pretty stale as a single player one.

Cons:
  • Lots of reused assets. Enemy variance gets stale after awhile. When you really boil it down, the game is 3 levels worth of assets, and each of those levels have a new set of enemies. Sprinkle a handfull of bosses on top. That's about it.
  • The final boss is disproportionately hard compared to the rest of the game.
